I have to agree with Mr. Conner, how do they evoke such emotion ? Sometimes I think something had a hand in these five men singing together, it cant be just a chance thing. They all have so much talent, but together, it is amazing.
Exactly and then some!!! ... It hit us too like that. --- Tell me somethin', how do they do that? .... I mean, evoke such emotion! It's not sadness... guess just pure emotion!!! Huh? I listened to this so many times ..... still amazed by what they do or are able to do. Similar as your youth, I grew-up in church... I have heard this so many ways but gotta say (said it before)... this is by far the absolute best rendition/sound of this hymn (IMO).... Hmmm .........? Mayday!!! If ya don't know who's who or what's what' or who does what --- each of their abilities.... you're gonna miss, miss out big time with this one. Realizing the significance of their performance of "Mayday" is one of the biggest --- "Oh My's" EVER... (probably my favorite --- it's that good). I'd suggest holding off and learn who and what HF does/is..... get a few older videos under your belt 1st (and foremost) .... Give a listen to Cam's vid of her release! So.... I went back to what I've already listened to and used my earbuds. W O W! I see what I was missing! I got so excited I started watching a few of their 1st performances on The Sing-Off too, but had to stop because I don't wanna ruin any future reaction requests! But what a difference for sure! I guess anything from your childhood sticks with you, at least for me. When I hear a song performed in different ways by different people, it always still gives me chills. How Great Thou Art will always be one of my favorite hymns, and to hear it sung in so many ways always makes me happy. I'm glad HF picked this one out of so many! The VIP and Ultimate VIP tickets may be sold out but regular tickets are probably still available. I’m going to see them in Kalamazoo MI on May 3rd...my third concert...and I can’t wait 😊 They are amazing live!

Just passing through as a Home Free fan. I am an ex-rocker and played all up and down the east coast. I'm 60 yrs old now and have been a Baptist pastor for the last 25 years. I was a prodigal to be sure but the spirit that was placed in my at salvation at 16 years old never left me. Said all that to say this...as I watched you react to this song, I could see the Spirit working on you. I could nearly see into your soul through your eyes. I'm not gonna belabor the issue, you know the ropes (being a PK and all), but I would encourage you to think back on those days more often and keep listening to the sweet music of the church. @@DLynn Maybe you should go into law enforcement. 😊 I am a fraud investigator and was the law enforcement liaison for Dell a few years ago. In practice, I am a risk analyst and work with companies to push criminals away from their sites. It's not glamorous, it can be downright mind-numbing, but if my efforts protect one innocent person from being a victim, then those efforts are worth it. Much like what you do in your job and your RUclips channel, your efforts are worth it. Let nothing stand in the way of you achieving your career dreams. P.s. I expect to hear, someday, that you have your own show or something of that nature. 😊😊

I earned this after I couldn't find work using my journalism degree. I thought that would get me into the FBI or being a CSI, but our teachers gently explained that you need to be a beat cop before getting "promoted" to be a detective, and there were soooooo many crazy requirements for the FBI that at my age at the time (25) I wasn't interested in any of it. I know how to shoot a gun now, though 😉 but, I would love to have a show...when I get one, I'll have you on it. You sound pretty bad-ass!😎

First off...I love those earrings! I used to wear a pair just about that size, back when I was in my 20s. :-D I love your hair, too. It suits you really well, I think...not that I know you personally or anything. I just think it frames your face really nicely and brings attention to your beautiful eyes. I can say things like that, as a woman, because I'm a grandma (grin). PKs can have a hard time of it sometimes, I know. I don't think you've let go of the Lord, and He hasn't of you, I know for sure. When I watch you reacting, I do a lot of smiling and feeling happy. There's just something about your presence. :-) Regarding the video. I was reading a few comments before mine, and thought I'd give you a lineup of the guys on this one, BEFORE you get to Mayday (which isn't country, but I think you're gonna love it). At 4:18 in this video, Tim Foust begins the song in his deep bass mode. He has a HUGE range, and I'll just tell you that he starts Mayday, as well. You go from there. ;-) At 4:32, Adam Rupp kicks in with a beautiful tenor harmony. He also has a huge range (honestly only a few notes short of Tim's range), but we only usually hear it when he's doing his "drum solos" in concert (there are plenty of those around RUclips that you can listen to). He generally sings on Christmas songs and hymns, rather than beatboxing. He and his brother Chris (the other founder of the group, who is now out on his own) were raised Lutheran, in Mankato, MN. An exception to th "rule" that Adam seems to have imposed on himself about singing vs. beatboxing for the carols and hymns, is this one, which I'm SURE you will love (it's before Chris left the group, by the way): "Do You Hear What I Hear?" ruclips.net/video/wIQQDYaoWpc/видео.html At 4:40, Rob Lundquist comes in with his usual lead tenor harmony. At 5:20, he begins the melody line. At 4:43, Austin (grin) kicks in with the high tenor line. Now comes an interesting part...At 4:57, you can definitely hear Tim singing the melody. Yet you hear a deep bass line being sung. That's [Adam] Chance, who is standing at the far left at 4:55 At 6:30, Adam Rupp takes up the melody line of the "chorus," which you so aptly identified as "It Is Well." :-) At 6:47 Austin leads that key change into the finale...love it! At 7:27, you can see that Rob has been picking up some of the WAY high notes. They ALL have such awesome ranges! At 7:45, the higher Alps behind them are highlighted. They are standing on a lower area, with that lovely church below them. These are the Austrian Alps (think "The Sound of Music" type of location...yup...your instinct was correct). ;-) The actual sound recording, I'm sure, was done in the studio. However, they were live in those mountains, with a drone capturing the action. ;-) They had been on tour over there, and took advantage of the setting, and all of us Home Fries are very grateful for that! \0/ All of that should orient you a bit better for listening to "Mayday," if you haven't already done so. :-D I see more comments below, now, so I probably overdid (but then I always tend to, as you already know). ;-) HUGS! You didn't need "hype" for this one. Your whole demeanor said it all, and I for one, loved this reaction. Thank you, ma'am!
Ah....you got me grinning ear-to-ear! You're so sweet! I appreciate the breakdown of their voices and what's going on. I usually get the overall idea the 1st listen, but then gotta go back to get the full "flavor" what I heard. They did this standard really well. It's one of my faves (when I regularly went to church) and still is... I love hearing it done in different styles and tempos, different keys, melodies and harmonies, by men and women. I was happy they did this, and did it beautifully. Throwing in "It Is Well" was a pleasant surprise! The rough part about how I was raised is the expectation. People think you should have taken the same path as your parents. I know that I've had God watching me this whole time, even though my path wasn't the holiest. But I also know He keeps me out of really baaaaaddddd things. Just like a kid, I kick and scream and I'm stubborn and wanna do things my way, but I can't disregard the teachings and things that I've grown up with; he won't let me! I appreciate your compliments! We should be able to tell each other they look pretty or handsome to build each other up (those earrings were $2 from Walmart...cheap, but a staple). The hair was a result of my life making me lose my mind...but I thank you!❤ I haven't listened to Mayday yet.. I kinda wanna get a few more of their songs down before I do...gives me something to really look forward to! Here I go writing books again! Be good, lady! 😁
@@DLynn That's the way I listen, too (to anything, but especially to Home Free)...a once-through, usually, then I start going in depth. Their harmonies get me "in the feels" as the saying goes, too. They don't even have to be singing a hymn (and usually aren't). ;-) Maybe we should write a book together...for real...someday! (grin)
Sweetie, your reaction wasn't "low key." Your whole countenance changed as the depth of another part of who you are came to the surface. You didn't acknowledge it, but I could feel the tears that were waiting to run down your cheeks had you let them. The beautiful song touched your heart and resonated in your soul and it was apparent to anyone caring to notice. I'm a church boy and I also have some songs that are particularly dear to my heart. Just passing through as a Home Free fan. I am an ex-rocker and played all up and down the east coast. I'm 60 yrs old now and have been a Baptist pastor for the last 25 years. I was a prodigal to be sure but the spirit that was placed in my at salvation at 16 years old never left me. Said all that to say this...as I watched you react to this song, I could see the Spirit working on you. I could nearly see into your soul through your eyes. I'm not gonna belabor the issue, you know the ropes (being a PK and all), but I would encourage you to think back on those days more often and keep listening to the sweet music of the church. @@DLynn Maybe you should go into law enforcement. 😊 I am a fraud investigator and was the law enforcement liaison for Dell a few years ago. In practice, I am a risk analyst and work with companies to push criminals away from their sites. It's not glamorous, it can be downright mind-numbing, but if my efforts protect one innocent person from being a victim, then those efforts are worth it. Much like what you do in your job and your RUclips channel, your efforts are worth it. Let nothing stand in the way of you achieving your career dreams. P.s. I expect to hear, someday, that you have your own show or something of that nature. 😊😊
@@jgreer6161 ok, you're definitely a fave of mine! Funny you say law enforcement...I have an associates degree in "Justice Technology" from one of those trade schools. I earned this after I couldn't find work using my journalism degree. I thought that would get me into the FBI or being a CSI, but our teachers gently explained that you need to be a beat cop before getting "promoted" to be a detective, and there were soooooo many crazy requirements for the FBI that at my age at the time (25) I wasn't interested in any of it. I know how to shoot a gun now, though 😉 but, I would love to have a show...when I get one, I'll have you on it. You sound pretty bad-ass!😎

First off...I love those earrings! I used to wear a pair just about that size, back when I was in my 20s. :-D I love your hair, too. It suits you really well, I think...not that I know you personally or anything. I just think it frames your face really nicely and brings attention to your beautiful eyes. I can say things like that, as a woman, because I'm a grandma (grin).
PKs can have a hard time of it sometimes, I know. I don't think you've let go of the Lord, and He hasn't of you, I know for sure. When I watch you reacting, I do a lot of smiling and feeling happy. There's just something about your presence. :-)
Regarding the video. I was reading a few comments before mine, and thought I'd give you a lineup of the guys on this one, BEFORE you get to Mayday (which isn't country, but I think you're gonna love it).
At 4:18 in this video, Tim Foust begins the song in his deep bass mode. He has a HUGE range, and I'll just tell you that he starts Mayday, as well. You go from there. ;-)
At 4:32, Adam Rupp kicks in with a beautiful tenor harmony. He also has a huge range (honestly only a few notes short of Tim's range), but we only usually hear it when he's doing his "drum solos" in concert (there are plenty of those around RUclips that you can listen to). He generally sings on Christmas songs and hymns, rather than beatboxing. He and his brother Chris (the other founder of the group, who is now out on his own) were raised Lutheran, in Mankato, MN. An exception to th "rule" that Adam seems to have imposed on himself about singing vs. beatboxing for the carols and hymns, is this one, which I'm SURE you will love (it's before Chris left the group, by the way):

At 4:40, Rob Lundquist comes in with his usual lead tenor harmony. At 5:20, he begins the melody line.
At 4:43, Austin (grin) kicks in with the high tenor line.
Now comes an interesting part...At 4:57, you can definitely hear Tim singing the melody. Yet you hear a deep bass line being sung. That's [Adam] Chance, who is standing at the far left at 4:55
At 6:30, Adam Rupp takes up the melody line of the "chorus," which you so aptly identified as "It Is Well." :-)
At 6:47 Austin leads that key change into the finale...love it!
At 7:27, you can see that Rob has been picking up some of the WAY high notes. They ALL have such awesome ranges!
At 7:45, the higher Alps behind them are highlighted. They are standing on a lower area, with that lovely church below them. These are the Austrian Alps (think "The Sound of Music" type of location...yup...your instinct was correct). ;-)
The actual sound recording, I'm sure, was done in the studio. However, they were live in those mountains, with a drone capturing the action. ;-) They had been on tour over there, and took advantage of the setting, and all of us Home Fries are very grateful for that! \0/

Ah....you got me grinning ear-to-ear! You're so sweet! I appreciate the breakdown of their voices and what's going on. I usually get the overall idea the 1st listen, but then gotta go back to get the full "flavor" what I heard. They did this standard really well. It's one of my faves (when I regularly went to church) and still is... I love hearing it done in different styles and tempos, different keys, melodies and harmonies, by men and women. I was happy they did this, and did it beautifully. Throwing in "It Is Well" was a pleasant surprise!
The rough part about how I was raised is the expectation. People think you should have taken the same path as your parents. I know that I've had God watching me this whole time, even though my path wasn't the holiest. But I also know He keeps me out of really baaaaaddddd things. Just like a kid, I kick and scream and I'm stubborn and wanna do things my way, but I can't disregard the teachings and things that I've grown up with; he won't let me!

@@DLynn That's the way I listen, too (to anything, but especially to Home Free)...a once-through, usually, then I start going in depth. Their harmonies get me "in the feels" as the saying goes, too. They don't even have to be singing a hymn (and usually aren't). ;-)

Sweetie, your reaction wasn't "low key." Your whole countenance changed as the depth of another part of who you are came to the surface. You didn't acknowledge it, but I could feel the tears that were waiting to run down your cheeks had you let them. The beautiful song touched your heart and resonated in your soul and it was apparent to anyone caring to notice. I'm a church boy and I also have some songs that are particularly dear to my heart.
