I'm a street photographer and i recently spent 2 weeks in bc, mostly in Vancouver. I couldn't even put the camera next to my face. The scenes I saw in Hastings were just too sad. Poor people exploited by the cruel World we live in. I hope it will change one day.
It is East Hastings Street, for crying out loud! It has been like that 10 years ago, 20 years ago, 30 years ago, etc. Vancouver is a beautiful city and this area is not typical for it. Show Coal Harbour, show Fort Langley, show the Canada Place, show Steveston, show other clean and fantastic locations. That IS Vancouver!!!
that the problem, there isn't any places or services to go to, Its this dam toxic drug (fentanyl, xylazine) crisis that the cause all this, addict's so totally addicted that they refuse to go to treatment to get well and then they drop dead like flies, So the city spends millions annually on the druggies, housing, food, clothing etc etc and it seems to do is enable this, On a personal note, i had a total emotional breakdown when my dad passed and i had little family to help me though this and friends were no help and my G.P wrote many letters to mental health on my behalf and they they did almost nothing for me as i had no history of drug, alcohol or homeless problems, so consequently i have not worked for some time because of this i am now living on a small government pension and feel angry and cheated by mental health as they keep spending millions on the addicts that just goes down the drain while people who genuinely want help get nothing, that why some call this a broken mental health system...
Sad, tragic, and probably could’ve been handled in a different way. You can’t allow this and at some point mandatory treatment or jail forced sobriety might be needed to bring this tragedy of free drugs, open air use, and free pass on crime to a final conclusion.
Yes , Its around Hastings which has always been shady. Lots of drugs and druggies but lots of them are not from BC. We have mild winters unlike Alberta, SK, MB or Ontario. If your going to be on the street they prefer Van rather than 4 feet of snow in Toronto. That said Vancouver is a beautiful and Vibrant city don't judge it solely by this video. Seattle and Portland are worse
Downtown Niagara Falls looks the same. Shocked? All you tourists that come here should get away from the falls and see the rest of the city...this decay in Canada is everywhere.
