  • The video highlights the impact of the She Leads programme on girls and young women as narrated by Sophie Nabukenya, the She Leads Consortium Coordinator in Uganda.
Launched in 2021, the She Leads programme works with different stakeholders like religious leaders, cultural leaders, and the media, to ensure the voices of girls of young women are heard. Thanks to the She Leads programme, girls and young women have been protected from early marriages, they have gone back to school and can now own land and are allowed to voice their opinions in their communities. Girls and young women have been mentored to stand up and articulate their issues not only in their village council meetings but also in global forums like COMESA, Africa Union Summit, and the UN.
*She Leads is a five-year joint programme of Plan International Netherlands, Defence for Children - ECPAT the Netherlands (DCI-ECPAT), African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET), and Terre des Hommes Netherlands, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. She Leads brings together child rights organisations, feminist/women’s rights organisations, and GYW-led groups in a joint effort to increase the sustained influence of girls and young women (GYW) on decision-making and the transformation of gender norms in formal and informal institutions.
