This looks so much better than the sedan, I had a look on the BMW customizer the other day and got some pretty nice results with the touring. A bit of a shame that they made the tail lights look like the G20/21 because the G30 had the best tail lights of any current BMW. They didn't look as great on the G31 though, so I do think these new ones fit quite well on the touring. And I feel like the rear windows look quite small, but I guess that is just how they end up looking on tourings. I checked on Google and they aren't much different to the G21 or G31 rear windows.

I just love how they got invited to the BMW 5 series presentation, came there and mock them a little to the shit that they are doing. The touring indeed looks okay but need to see in the real life it anyway
What improved in G61 is that the trunk now has 570 liter of capacity up the cover, while G31 had about 530 litres. Design wise, the 5 series estate model does not look anymore like an undertaker's car, which is a huge improvement to me.
It looks amazing. Much more beauriful than sedan. Talking kombi lover. I hope they will add in future felts in door pockets; rear door comfort access; soft close; rear openable window; more quality materials. Now in some ways even F11 looks more premium. Tested M60 sedan. That's a shame, knowing that this design is much more sleek, elegant. Hope they'll fix some areas in later models or for LCI.
I kind of like it from the get go, weird, because in all other new models it needs to somehow grow on me, but I guess that is a positive thing, keep it up AutotopNL! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
answer to the rear opening split hatch isn't the 200g, but the reliability issues with corrosion and leaking. Been wanting an M5 touring in the USA for a long time but I guess the EPA didn't want them here? Just like they don't want the diesel SUVs anymore either? Idunno, but these games are not good. The X7 as good as they made it, just doesn't get us there. I mean all you get is enormous wheels and extra freeboard like a land yacht.
No opening sunroof (but they used the old sun roof switch that indicates it can be opened), no opening tailgate window, no real comfort seats with adjustable upper back, no leather dashboard/door panel options, no soft close doors, cheap AC/DC covering caps (seems like they took the rest from the i3), no night vision, no ambient lights on the rear doors, less wood/interior trims, no door sills at all, heavily downgraded B&W speaker system +++ This is the cheapest and weakest 5-series ever. What a mess.
Not having a separate opening rear window is a big mistake. That’s such a great feature to have. The centre console looks so cheap. No 530D in U.K. either
They need some "Cross Country" version, like Volvo does with their V90/V60. I want more ground clearance; 210 mm would've been ideal. Right now, they don't have anything in this niche, and that's why people buy X5/X6.
Since the new 5 Series is out, I didn´t saw any of them on the road here in north-western Germany. The new E-Class for comparison is to be seen quite often know.
The small changes have made it much better. But it'll be stupidly expensive to buy and maintain. The 'safety' systems are so annoying it's not worth buying a new car. Get an old one, get a better car and get zero annoyance.
De gustibus non est disputandum as Romans were saying. I have completely different opinion on G60 and F44 (2 Gran Coupe). I have 2GC for 4 years and I really love it design and functionality. And new 5 series looks really good in reality. I had reservations when I saw photos and videos but after looking at it in real and test drive I got convinced that I want to buy it as replacement for 2GC.
I have an F11 LCI Touring with M-Sport Pack to compare to, I like the looks better than sedan - I always preferred kombi versions. Overall I will be interested to see it as I will be in the market for a new car but there is couple of things I hate: lack of the bigger petrol engines in EU - I don't want a plug in hybrid, but also lack of the XDrive versions apart from diesel, cheap cost cutting like lack of felt in the door bins, thanks for pointing out the lack of the back window mechanism- something that I use right now. I do like the interior design and the quality of the screens are awesome, what I dont like is that you cant get for example similar display layout like in the M3 model which is quite good looking.
I don’t think so, because it wouldn’t be able to compete with the Audi S6 TDI or Benz 450d. I think people are mistaken in thinking the 540d must automatically be as slow as the new 740d. I think it will have exactly the same engine, but tuned up to what customers have come to expect from a 540d, which is fast and powerful.
This is almost the car I spaced online, best colour and best wheels, and I WILL be buying one second hand. I like the B&W speakers, add the privacy tinting, I prefer the eDrive40 spec with the standard grill (don't like the M60 'black slab' - looks like something fell off and left a 'patch' behind!) My history for 'touring' meaning 'practical': I wanted a Vauxhall Victor Estate as my family car and a Ford Capri as my sports car when aged 10, my Dad had a Hillman Hunter Estate '1725 GL' in the 70's, and I still own my 26 year old E39 Touring and 12 year old F11. I'm also a petrol-head 'racer' and owned an E21 and E30, i.e. give me a BMW 6 cylinder petrol engine and rear wheel drive and I'm happy. I never buy a BMW until it is 6 years old and hence, looking after old BMW's is an important skill and good for their resale value. By the way, one more advantage of not having a rear glass opener is it reduces the many wires being 'stretched' going through the rear hinges which start to fail after 20 years! Teslas claim to be good for 1 million miles and I see no reason why my electric BMW can't do the same! I have enjoyed the split rear window on my F11 when being 'overloaded' taking my son to university, however, I could have bought a roof box and made life easier still. I conclude the weight and cost saving of not having the opening rear window is a good decision, the money saved can go on something else. I still want to find a way to build an electric fully restored E30. My E30 320i 6 cylinder petrol was the most fun I ever had on the road - and no 'modern' car can ever replace that (hint, these cars are too dangerous for most drivers, because of the sudden 'power-off' over-steer) - but to me every round-a-bout with no other road user (or animal) is a 'game on' chance to practice! Either that, or I will have to visit a go-kart track more often. Additional reasons why I value BMW electric cars: in no particular order: Made by BMW, super smooth and quiet electric motor, high torque, great in traffic, no gearbox, braking 'regen', no catalytic converter, no engine oil changes, no gearbox oil changes, no exhaust pipe, no 'Guibo', no fuel injectors, no fuel pipes, no spark plugs, no fuel sensors, no high pressure water pump, no oil pump, no 'Vanos', no engine pistons etc, and I can charge up at home with my solar panels. Part of owning a BMW and part of the ultimate driving machine theme, was also to have a comfortable and relaxing ride over long distances. Hence, you see why an i5 eDrive40 Touring covers 95% of my needs. My future refurbished electric E30 or second hand i8 will cover the other 5%.
Will someone please tell me why everyone likes free standing displays? It looks like the design teams finished the dash and someone in the back asked where's the infotainment screen? OH ##@% Ahhh Ahh. Too late to change the design now so just slap them anywhere and call it a save. Honestly LOATHE the "did someone forget their tablet.. Oh nevermind. It's attached to the car".... Actual integrated displays look WAY better.
Bmw's designs are great I can't fault them in many areas so out 10 I'll always rate their designs a solid 8 so if you take their competitor's designs it's not that bad at all but BMW is full if ideas the fact that it's one of those car brands that have more models on offer.
The side of the 5 series sedan 2024 has this toyota altis feel with the rar side window ending with a triangle with a 5 in it. It defies BMW's consistent design for decades, and to me looks like a toyota altis side, especially if it's black instead of chrome. Touring doesn't have that and to me that's a relief.
I agree with the side profile and the rear. Nice ! But what's going on at the front ? Plastic central and all very messy. The integration of the ugly front radar box could have been implemented a lot better. Nothing seems to match on the front as if 4 designers with very different ideas were at play... the rear tailgate opening window has been a Bmw touring signature. Now gone. I think a nice G31 Lci touring for me. SUV ? No thanks.
Requested for two decades to finally make the unicorn 🦄 M3 Touring. BMW did but… unfortunately it has not 😤 been brought to the States 🇺🇸. Now I have to go with the X4 which is cool, but still not the same.
I like the side profile, don’t like the front especially the stupid grill. I had 535D touring and i love the boot lid opening. What were they thinking getting rid of it.!!!!! Not sure about electric touring cars and their ability to cover long distances.
Thank god, they saved best for last. I like it, the rear lights really made the sedan look bad, they fixed it with this. Looks like a big 3 series touring 👌🏼
@@orion_033 Both are ugghhhh. BMW needs to fire their decision makers. Honestly. But even if what you said its true, dude, how far has BMW fallen, honestly. From a legendary E39 M5 that everyone wants and even the most vicious haters admit that its awesome to.... This pile.... That somewhat looks "good"... Sheer disappointment.
The touring definitely the nicest. Grille is not great and the rear quarter window is angled too much The m5 touring will be interesting and the 550e maybe the car. SUVs and crossovers are stupid unless you have issue getting in and out a car.
Indeed you have a valid point, SUVs are much easier to get into, well the smaller ones anyway as the large ones (including the iX) where you have to climb-up in ain't so good. Crossovers are a mixed bag as they have the seat height but may lack headroom as i'm finding with the previous-gen X2. The best was my F45 Active tourer, a "mini-van" Golf-Plus type hatchback - higher seat but tall door opening was very easy to access especially in tight parking spots, plus getting in the rear was easier than getting into the rear in an X3, even! I know SUVs have a trendier look but the _van_ type is more practical still for the space it takes-up on the road.
The side profile and the rear look great. The front end, not so much. Although an improvement on many of the abominations coming our way from BMW recently. The split tailgate is quintessential BMW touring and it's a mistake to remove that feature. Still not a fan of the huge touchscreen inside either. Give me proper buttons for those functions I use everyday.
@@4Whopper not sure, thats how bmw will be doing things for the touring. mostly because Americans don't like wagons or touring and some sedans cars. its always or mostly big SUV's and big Pickups.

I don´t like that the front looks like a beefed up 2 series grancoupe. Also the free standing display is a let down in the interior. I prefer overall the sleeker more understatement look of the predecessor.
The proportions of the station wagon are much better. But as you mentioned, the sedan is for Asia and the US, unfortunately the station wagon only tries to be more European than the sedan. The previous one was great, this one is average
Just my opinion now, but they took a step back design wise. The back looks okay but the sides and front is not my cup of tea. Also way too much plastic on a car like this.

Previous gen looks much better
They could have at least made the rear window hatch an option...
Not sure why, but rear looks a bit lower than the front for some reason. Anyway, great looking BMW overall.
Great looking? You must be kidding me, right?
No opening sunroof (but they used the old sun roof switch that indicates it can be opened), no opening tailgate window, no real comfort seats with adjustable upper back, no leather dashboard/door panel options, no soft close doors, cheap AC/DC covering caps (seems like they took the rest from the i3), no night vision, no ambient lights on the rear doors, less wood/interior trims, no door sills at all, heavily downgraded B&W speaker system +++
This is the cheapest and weakest 5-series ever. What a mess.
Not having a separate opening rear window is a big mistake. That’s such a great feature to have. The centre console looks so cheap. No 530D in U.K. either
The side profile is very nice I hope they make an M5 touring
F11 best touring 5 series ever and maybe g31
I like your sentence you are very honest gentleman hundred percent. I agree what you told me in this video. Thank you so much.
They need some "Cross Country" version, like Volvo does with their V90/V60.
I want more ground clearance; 210 mm would've been ideal.
Right now, they don't have anything in this niche, and that's why people buy X5/X6.
Пытаюсь разглядеть что-то красивое в этой машине. Пока не получается
Der Fünfer zum einkaufen Fahren echt nice Brilliant
I think there could be a bit more ambient lighting in the rear. Otherwise there is such a big difference between the front and rear seats
In the name of cost saving this is however the door cards have ambient lighting. I think my 6GT has a lot more ambient lighting than this car
Since the new 5 Series is out, I didn´t saw any of them on the road here in north-western Germany. The new E-Class for comparison is to be seen quite often know.
I saw three i5 in Copenhagen last Saturday. Have seen a few at home here in Sweden as well.
Wait for the M5 touring
The only G61 I care about is the 540d. The interior design in my G31 looks better and more quality than on the new one.
But the 540d will only have 298PS instead of 340 😕
I don’t think so, because it wouldn’t be able to compete with the Audi S6 TDI or Benz 450d. I think people are mistaken in thinking the 540d must automatically be as slow as the new 740d. I think it will have exactly the same engine, but tuned up to what customers have come to expect from a 540d, which is fast and powerful.
But I think they did not confirm 540d ??
@@MrQuashu I think BMW has said that the 540d will be available in Europe
@@babelhuber3449 ok that is good news because they also confirmed 530d so it should mean that 540d will be more powerful version.
This is almost the car I spaced online, best colour and best wheels, and I WILL be buying one second hand. I like the B&W speakers, add the privacy tinting, I prefer the eDrive40 spec with the standard grill (don't like the M60 'black slab' - looks like something fell off and left a 'patch' behind!)
My history for 'touring' meaning 'practical': I wanted a Vauxhall Victor Estate as my family car and a Ford Capri as my sports car when aged 10, my Dad had a Hillman Hunter Estate '1725 GL' in the 70's, and I still own my 26 year old E39 Touring and 12 year old F11.
Additional reasons why I value BMW electric cars: in no particular order:
Made by BMW, super smooth and quiet electric motor, high torque, great in traffic, no gearbox, braking 'regen', no catalytic converter, no engine oil changes, no gearbox oil changes, no exhaust pipe, no 'Guibo', no fuel injectors, no fuel pipes, no spark plugs, no fuel sensors, no high pressure water pump, no oil pump, no 'Vanos', no engine pistons etc, and I can charge up at home with my solar panels.
I gagged a little
The M5 and M5 CS (G31) and 760 and 750d M are the best looking BMW!
Beautiful touring 👏👏👏👏👏
Bmw's designs are great I can't fault them in many areas so out 10 I'll always rate their designs a solid 8 so if you take their competitor's designs it's not that bad at all but BMW is full if ideas the fact that it's one of those car brands that have more models on offer.
The touring looks better than the sedan but ugly interior has both 😢
It is not disgusting as a 7 series but there definitely something wrong with the proportions and the grille
The front isn't beautiful but I don't mind the rest... futuristic touring!
Are they no longer making the M550i?
The side of the 5 series sedan 2024 has this toyota altis feel with the rar side window ending with a triangle with a 5 in it. It defies BMW's consistent design for decades, and to me looks like a toyota altis side, especially if it's black instead of chrome. Touring doesn't have that and to me that's a relief.
nice relief, i still got, to me at least, best looking touring, g31 :D
The front grill looks like a ready meal tray stuck on the front.
Looks like a 3 series. And you think its good that a 5 series looks like an unwanted child of 2 and 3 series? Great....
@@dansan9858 I don't think it's looks bad the g61 that is, the g60 definitely could look better
The only ICE engine on sale in the U.K. for this is the 520i so far. No 550e. The M5 Touring will make it however.
6:44 True words spoken.
The touring definitely the nicest. Grille is not great and the rear quarter window is angled too much
The m5 touring will be interesting and the 550e maybe the car.
I know SUVs have a trendier look but the _van_ type is more practical still for the space it takes-up on the road.
look how big it is. please don't pretend its a sports car lol
The tyre size looks small for the car
I will buy one. Perfect car
They make a big mistakes to tatch the new 5 series I was thinking that the m5 have a classic design starting from the e39 e60 …. But they fuck up
Give me a G61 Alpina. Dad's last BMW 🔥
I quite like it actually
7:33 plastic airbag in what is probably a 100k€ car LOL
The side profile and the rear look great. The front end, not so much. Although an improvement on many of the abominations coming our way from BMW recently. The split tailgate is quintessential BMW touring and it's a mistake to remove that feature. Still not a fan of the huge touchscreen inside either. Give me proper buttons for those functions I use everyday.
The glass roof is one of the best on the market in the touring
the touring looks way better than the sedan... but generally speaking the designers of bmw seem to be snorting too much glue nowadays.
Front headlights are just way too soft for 5 series, it does not look angry, powerful, it looks like a skoda.
nothing will beat prev gen M5 CS
Looks better than the sedan
why tf does this car have a tablet on the front grille? are they high when they approve these designs?
the 5 series and i5 touring is not coming to America. only the m5 touring is coming to America
Why is that??
@@4Whopper not sure, thats how bmw will be doing things for the touring. mostly because Americans don't like wagons or touring and some sedans cars. its always or mostly big SUV's and big Pickups.
M5 touring?? Sick!
@@elikerr785 it will use the same v8 and hybrid system from the bmw xm and will probably make over 700hp, but in bmw speak it would probably me 715 or 720hp. we all know how bmw underates its figures.
They confirmed m5 touring coming to US?
Thank you for the honest review. I don’t like any of the new 5 series. For me the design is too much and not in a good way.
I don´t like that the front looks like a beefed up 2 series grancoupe. Also the free standing display is a let down in the interior. I prefer overall the sleeker more understatement look of the predecessor.
Looks like if Skoda Superb and A6 had a baby.
And a Volvo V60 or V90 watched while they make those babies.
Is it comes with v8 bi turbo
The proportions of the station wagon are much better. But as you mentioned, the sedan is for Asia and the US, unfortunately the station wagon only tries to be more European than the sedan. The previous one was great, this one is average
Just my opinion now, but they took a step back design wise. The back looks okay but the sides and front is not my cup of tea. Also way too much plastic on a car like this.
that "grill" still looks ridiculous and I don't like where BMW is going with their light design. Audi and Mercedes do way better!
