I love how he does the same thing he did last mission, gets to a village, doens't warn them instead going shopping or whatever event they had going on first, then gets punished for it, he even did it twice this mission, going to buy food first rather than warning them, and getting punished
You can literraly run through the northerners by using "try to avoid" and loot their Northerner Camp. They wont push u back, and you will sit on the same card as them. It also wont cost a turn.. unless the space that the northerner is on hasn't been looked at. Traversing through already-seen encounters will not cost a turn. When i played this, i literally waited for the northerners to attack the village so i can go in and save them, to get the loot from villagers and save them at the same time. After running the carnivals ofc. Also, if you defeat the northerners when they are on top of the villages, you get loot and you auto save them. You don't get anything if you defeat them elsewhere. The Axe Throwing in Peaceful Village's carnivals are awesome, you get free equipment if you land on gold, which is relatively easy.
or any other mission beyond this point, stars/moon/devil all took me a few tries because I didn't wanna look up the solutions and get gold I really hope he does the devil without spoilers, probably my favourite mission
When you avoid the hoard you don't fight and also you can still communicate with the villages also if the hoard are in an in between spot between the two sides of the board you can use them as a bridge and just choose avoid the hoard.
NL's though process: "Let's definitely fight the hoarde, because there's no option that says "try to avoid the hoarde", which I never fucking tried for the fifth fucking time. Yeah, this mission is going great.
And then he does avoid the horde, which just kicks him into a square which means that the only way to leave is to fight the horde. Which just kinda reinforces his idea that avoiding is useless.
When you are in a store, click on the items available to reveal their properties if they are new. You don't have to buy them. Also, get rid of that stupid map reveal card from youe supplies. Bring a sword instead.
Why the FUCK is this man bringing Archer's Bane in this mission? It just waters down the pool and makes it harder to get a real northerner based weapon, such as Winter's Bane...
Because the annoying ting sound it makes when it's ultimate is charged will be the defacto sound it makes when it takes a northerners life... Tat and he most likely mistook the banes... Even I don rmb why he put it in last episode...
NL: I desperately need to buy a new weapon. The game: Sure thing, here's a weapon you can buy. NL: I think I'll buy a new helmet instead. Why egg boi, why?
it's actually really easy to get gold though. Just attack a few of the hordes when they're on top of a village. Except the game doesn't explain this. it would be really nice if they allowed you to save partway through so you didn't have to sink so much time learning the mechanics, just to die...
Yeah, very intuitive, let the horde attack the village and avoid it, then attack it after it pillaged the village. Only an idiot wouldn't figure it out in an hour that that is the obvious choice.
It's a deliberate nerf to the effect, combat would be too easy if you could gain a shield or whatever on cooldown, your supposed to have to go out of your way to get it.
but is there anything inherently wrong with button mashing? it's not as sophisticated a style of gameplay, but it has it's own merits, street fighter 1 nostalgia if nothing else.
No its not wrong or broken, just underwhelming and could be improved upon. I know the focus isn't the combat but it is an integral part of the game. Might as improve it.
Given the game loves throwing hordes of enemies and it takes a dozen hits per kill maybe have 1 or 2 environmental gimmicks to use such as collapsing cliffs of falling trees with 1 time use to disable small mobs or separate the hordes? Either tat or bring the traps from the maze like mode into combat? Do you guys think tat would be good?
Just beat the game, gotgold on all levels. Cant wait for the base building challange. Also to get gold on one you have to do all your companion quest lines.
Hanged Man really is one of the roughest. I found it far harder than Strength. Justice isn't bad, although to get gold you almost /have/ to fail it once (unless you get terrifically lucky).
Fair enough. Hanged Man can really screw you with luck - the fact that the battle intensity doesn't reset level to level means that if you're forced to fight more often, and you're not geared to the nines, you'll get whittled down quick. Justice took me two - the first sussing out the map/how much I needed to make Bridge + Defenses, the second to execute properly. Can definitely see it taking more, though, particularly if you botch a woodcutting.
How do you lose a 75% chance card gambit, when the failure card goes on top for the first shuffle? You immediately know where it is, if it's not on top for the second, then the top card is G-U-A-R-E-N-T-E-E-D success, and if it is on top follow it again and dont pick it. That hurts to watch lol
The game was never a good fit for NL. He doesn't care about the story of pretty much any game... it's one of the things I hate about him, and also one of the things that means Divinity was not a good game for him at all. It's also why I don't get why everyone wants him to play Undertale; it's a great game, but he'd hate it.
You will never see NL finish or competently play a story-driven game that is 100+ hours long. His channel is mainly focused on games that don't rely on story and have high replayability, like Isaac or Enter the Gungeon.
Given his streak of claiming to prefer playing games as "lawful good," he might try Sparing once, and then immediately go on a genocide run the very instant he reaches any kind of difficulty or annoyance.
Dear commenters, I see that you're frustrated about NL's usage of 28 minutes on a mission that he ultimately does not succeed in. There are a number of things that I ask you consider. Firstly, this is, I believe, NL's second attempt at this mission. Given this, it is not reasonable to assume he has understood all of the mechanics at play in this mission. This, combined with the length of the missions, I would say, is a fault of the game. The fact that you can spend an hour (on some missions) and gain (almost) no progress makes this game very unsatisfying at times. There are many ways to solve this. For example, shortening the missions (probably not feasible at this stage), implementing save points, or explaining certain mechanics at the beginning of the mission(in this mission for example, the fact that if you beat the horde while it is on a village, you save that village). Secondly, if you're watching this for high-skill and analytical gameplay, perhaps this isn't the right channel for you. I watch NL for his banter, humour, voice, and his bald head. I've been holding this in for a while but certain comments on this video finally pushed me to let this out. I'm not sure that these comments will necessarily be hurtful to NL, heck I'm not even sure he reads them. However, these are not constructive criticisms. You're mocking him for not noticing things you consider to be quite obvious. However, you're not looking at this from his perspective. You've probably already beaten the mission and understand some of the intricacies. This could be a result of luck that your way of thinking aligned with the developer's or it could be that you watched someone else beat it. Regardless, I implore you to take a look from NL's perspective. I think this would help in fostering a much more helpful, constructive, and enjoyable community for Northernlion and his viewers.
> Given this, it is not reasonable to assume he has understood all of the mechanics at play in this mission. There are, like, no mechanics here aside from saving villages with gambits or combat. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to get it. Combat is hard, and the game tells you that you should git gud at gambits, meaning that this path is highly prefered. >The fact that you can spend an hour (on some missions) and gain (almost) no progress makes this game very unsatisfying at times. Ever played a roguelight before? Heard of a small underrated gem The Binding of Isaac? The same principles apply here too. > There are many ways to solve this. There is already a way, and it's called not going for the gold token, which NL stubbornly rejected and died as a result.
I explained one of the "hidden" mechanics on your comment actually. My example was that defeating the horde on a village counts as saving the village. In the binding of isaac, you gain progress in at least 2 ways, getting closer to the final boss(es) or unlocking/picking up new items. Every run, you're likely to do either one or both of these. Therefore, I would say your comparison is not very strong. Even if you don't go for the gold token, I think some of the missions still unfairly punish you. Furthermore, NL's choice to go for gold or not can be considered arbitrary. Do you think there's some formula for determining when it is correct to switch to silver or keep going for gold? I don't think so. It's a matter of playstyle and what you consider to be your end game. If NL's end game is getting all the golds (it probably isn't), then it might be faster for him to go for gold all the way rather than switching to silver. Furthermore, I'm not sure at what point you wanted him to switch to silver but I"m not sure he was in a good position to finish the mission at many points in the video.
Is it just a coincidence that I am getting tons of Lineage 2 revolution (a game NL played on a sponsored stream) ads only on NL’s videos? I’ve never noticed something like this before, but idk.
I don't redo things. I either get everything the first time, or I don't get everything. And this is even more true for NL... except in his case, it's almost always the latter option.
I might actually have to drop this from how frustrating it is watching NL do this. I normally don't mind him being ignorant by choice. But this is just terrible.
Same mission, 28 minutes.
Oh no, not again.
rivanianx
Ikr
Sad face*
You can get gold in 28 minutes here you know.
we're talking about NL here. He will spend 20 of those minutes fighting the hordes he should be avoiding in the first place, guaranteed.
>"It's the first one I'm gonna tap out of for the time being."
>Has failed and given up on two other quests already
"This mission is too hard! It's too much combat"
proceeds to go out of his way to guarantee he gets into combat.
And mention that combat is too easy, at least twice pr. episode
I love how he does the same thing he did last mission, gets to a village, doens't warn them instead going shopping or whatever event they had going on first, then gets punished for it, he even did it twice this mission, going to buy food first rather than warning them, and getting punished
He needed food, also on the second one he had to buy food first.
"This is the first one I'm gonna have to tap out on for the time being" EGG YOU STILL HAVEN'T DONE THE HIEROPHANT
It's time for another episode of "I still think this game's combat is on the easy side"
The combat itself isn't very hard if you're moderately skilled. It's just the encounters that can increase or decrease the challange.
>mission where it is possible to avoid most combat, if not all
“This is TOO MUCH COMBAT”
NL, are you feeling ok?
"Hey, here's a card that gives me a chance to NOT have to fight the nearly impossible fight again by moving back! Let's go forwards!"
he would have had to fight them on the way to the exit regardless
You can literraly run through the northerners by using "try to avoid" and loot their Northerner Camp. They wont push u back, and you will sit on the same card as them. It also wont cost a turn.. unless the space that the northerner is on hasn't been looked at. Traversing through already-seen encounters will not cost a turn.

Already killed the horde on the path of the village, yet decides to leave it behind???
Shiro Xyfy i was so mad lol
The hanged man is too hard? Well good freaking luck with Justice!
or any other mission beyond this point, stars/moon/devil all took me a few tries because I didn't wanna look up the solutions and get gold
I really hope he does the devil without spoilers, probably my favourite mission
The video's timer is always a good indicator if he won or not.
It's not that it's tough or it isn't going to give him breaks. The issue is his decision making is seriously hindered by being a living egg.
When you avoid the hoard you don't fight and also you can still communicate with the villages also if the hoard are in an in between spot between the two sides of the board you can use them as a bridge and just choose avoid the hoard.
NL's though process:

Yeah, this mission is going great.
And then he does avoid the horde, which just kicks him into a square which means that the only way to leave is to fight the horde. Which just kinda reinforces his idea that avoiding is useless.
There were times on this mission though where fighting the horde was his only choice if he wanted to save all of the villages.
Finished the game today, folks. Now hyped for the series even more, seeing eggman suffer and make mistakes is an enormous pleasure.
He will never finish the Sun challenge. Never.
Man, blaming your companions... this mission just requires map reveal, and proper planning.
When you are in a store, click on the items available to reveal their properties if they are new. You don't have to buy them. Also, get rid of that stupid map reveal card from youe supplies. Bring a sword instead.
If you dont really watch the combat sections this episode is only 14mins long
Why the FUCK is this man bringing Archer's Bane in this mission? It just waters down the pool and makes it harder to get a real northerner based weapon, such as Winter's Bane...
Because the annoying ting sound it makes when it's ultimate is charged will be the defacto sound it makes when it takes a northerners life... Tat and he most likely mistook the banes... Even I don rmb why he put it in last episode...
He put it in last episode because he hadn't equipped it before and wanted to try it out.
i love this series and i hope you get good nl
NL: I desperately need to buy a new weapon.
The game: Sure thing, here's a weapon you can buy.
NL: I think I'll buy a new helmet instead.
Why egg boi, why?
To be fair, that helmet is pretty good.
he couldn't afford it tho...
IKR?! He needs a better sword ASAP
He couldn't afford the weapon...even if he sold his shield, he'd be 1 gold off.
Because he didn't have the money lol pay attention
I love how nl says super.
you can sack 5 villages for a reason. use it to your advantage. make the sacrifice.
Brandt Carr not if you want gold you can’t. You need a perfect run for that
it's actually really easy to get gold though. Just attack a few of the hordes when they're on top of a village. Except the game doesn't explain this. it would be really nice if they allowed you to save partway through so you didn't have to sink so much time learning the mechanics, just to die...
Or you could just test it on the first floor, which would cost you just a few minutes.
Yeah, very intuitive, let the horde attack the village and avoid it, then attack it after it pillaged the village. Only an idiot wouldn't figure it out in an hour that that is the obvious choice.
Just wait till the village gets attacked, and THEN fight the horde. It lets you skip the gambits.
Yes I was hoping to see one of your Hand of Fate videos today
stop fighting the northerners
Hey NL I thought that combat was easy eh? ;)
You didn’t need to fight the northerners at the end!
Dude the ally specials needs it's own button for activation. Going up to them each time is such a slow down in combat.
It's a deliberate nerf to the effect, combat would be too easy if you could gain a shield or whatever on cooldown, your supposed to have to go out of your way to get it.
Then they need to do something to combat and/or the ally abilities to make them more useful/interesting. Cuz right now it seems very button mashing.
but is there anything inherently wrong with button mashing? it's not as sophisticated a style of gameplay, but it has it's own merits, street fighter 1 nostalgia if nothing else.
No its not wrong or broken, just underwhelming and could be improved upon. I know the focus isn't the combat but it is an integral part of the game. Might as improve it.

you seriously think he will last much longer?
4 more minutes than the earlier run...
_oh no_
Oh yeah, the combat is sooo easy NL.
just avoid the northerners unless they're on a village
hey stinky egg, nice videos, thanks for the content
Hanged Man really is one of the roughest. I found it far harder than Strength. Justice isn't bad, although to get gold you almost /have/ to fail it once (unless you get terrifically lucky).

Who is mad that the divinity series is cancelled, as said by Mathas on the Roundtable Podcast
not me.

Ever played a roguelight before? Heard of a small underrated gem The Binding of Isaac? The same principles apply here too.
> There are many ways to solve this.
There is already a way, and it's called not going for the gold token, which NL stubbornly rejected and died as a result.
Dude, this could be a half-decent copypasta. I commend the work.
I explained one of the "hidden" mechanics on your comment actually. My example was that defeating the horde on a village counts as saving the village.

Maaaan, this egg make the worst decisions...
Really gotta do better dice rolls more effort it seems like it's worse when just throwing immediately
The last time I was this early, the egg hadn't killed my wife yet!
*yet*
Do strength, don't be a hero!
Is it just a coincidence that I am getting tons of Lineage 2 revolution (a game NL played on a sponsored stream) ads only on NL’s videos? I’ve never noticed something like this before, but idk.
Redemption? Looks at a red future snippet, never mind.
i followed the cards at the start... and i could determine that the top card at last shuffle was not a fail so i would have taken it...
NL died twice on the same mission? This series will be canceled soon, and he'll start badmouthing the game whenever it comes up.
Stoppppp fighting the dang horde you noooobbb
NL is so trash ahahaha 10/10 eggboi never change
lionLate
I was looking forward to a new episode to drop....this is just...unwatchable tho.
OOOF
just dont save all villages in the beginning fam
Some of us hate the idea of leaving something like that incomplete. I don't know if NL feels that way, but I could never do that.
Larry Psuedonym you could go back later when you have better cards
I don't redo things. I either get everything the first time, or I don't get everything. And this is even more true for NL... except in his case, it's almost always the latter option.
