    I actually like these kinds of video, as a very amateur jeweler I find it difficult to spend the hundreds of dollars on tools that would help me because of lack of product description. so you buying them and showing how they work really really helps!

    I have spent 50 years in the trade and I don’t know how I managed to make jewellery without all these tools. Most the best jewellers died off about 30 years ago and what is needed is time and skill CAD is taking over. 😞 The tools to look interesting. These tools won’t make you a better Mounter

    • @GomeowCreations
      @GomeowCreations  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, I know tools will not make you any better without practice and time just doing it. I just thought that some high quality tools would be nice to have and work with along will being something that would last. I do some some CAD skills as well but not enough to make things I want yet.

    Thanks so much for this! I came here looking for a better, and more versatile set up in mounting tools, esp after purchasing a steel bracelet mandrel that my economy vise won't hold without slipping. I see they have a rotating attachment for a bracelet mandrel. Would the GRS be my best option for (at the very least) a mount for my bracelet mandrel, and bench pin, to start out, anyway? Thank you!

    Very nice! This is going to make your work so much easier (w/ less shoulder and neck pain!). I don't see this as showing off. Anyone who would accuse you of that is just envious. I love to see artists, who are perfectly capable of using the simplest tools, invest in more advanced tools of the trade. I think it shows your passion for the craft.

  • @joachim4848
    @joachim4848 3 года назад +4

    I have been a setter and a jeweler for 34 years. Most of your equipment is not needed. It's nice to have, but not needed. The GRS bench pin attachment extends the wooden pin to far out making is very uncomfortable to set. I cut the bench pin in half to be closer to the bench. Now bench it self is very narrow to work. The arm rest and elbow rest are not proportional distance from the bench pin it self. I mean it looks cool and nice, but it's not practical equipment. The GRS stuff is very useful when you do micro pave. I use the engraving ball and the platform its resting on. The best tools you must have are your hands and fingers. If you have time please watch some of my work videos on my channel. Good luck with your work and channel.

    • @allanfink7816
      @allanfink7816 3 года назад +1

      You do have a point in that you don't NEED a lot of this stuff. For instance the guy on the "jewelry training solutions" channel doesn't use ANY workholding gear and does EVERYTHING on his bare wooden bench pin. I have to admire his amazing skill level to be able to do that. But myself I prefer using a benchmate.

    • @joachim4848
      @joachim4848 3 года назад +4

      I don't mean to insult anyone. All I'm saying that the tools and the bench are not compatible based on my experience. A real professional jeweler or setter hardly uses all these tools. You need to separate the two things. You need 1 double bench. On one side setting and second side jewelry work. Not to contaminate the work area with rubber wheel dust and oils and other chemicals. An air compressor under the bench for graver max and an air hammer. I'm just telling the hobby jewelers out there to save their money and concentrate on your working skills. You need to develop the feelings in your fingers to know when to stop! If you go too far you will ruin the job. Know when to stop and how much pressure to apply. Ohh by the way. How do you know that you are a good setter or jeweler. You will know when you realize that you grind your teeth and your jaw hurts. I wish everyone a terrific holiday season.

      @@GomeowCreations Yeah, I got looking at it and I could see moving it but I thought the angled bit at the top might interfere when putting it on the left side. Guess not. Anyhow, Merry Christmas again. Your videos have helped me a lot this year and I'm already looking forward to next year's. Thanks

    Have you thought about inlaying the mount by routing out the two surfaced the thickness of the plate or the bolts? much stronger and stuff does not catch.

      GRS gear can be expensive. But keep an eye on ebay -- there are a zillion benchmates in the world and you can often find used ones on ebay when jewellers retire or pass on. Even if you find an old beat up or damaged one you can send it to the GRS company and have it refurbished for a reasonable fee. When I did this they were happy to see an old battle worn product return to be cleaned up and powder coated. They are a great company, and have an entire platform of tools you can build and expand on over time. I can't say enough good about them.

      @@allanfink7816 Wow! Thanks for the info Allan. It has taken me quite a while to gather up the needed supplies because I am on a very limited budget and I'll take any help I can get. Happy Holidays!

      @@annabr776 I think most people that make jewelry become tool-gadget-widget-gear junkies, always seeking the next doodad to solve recurring problems. It takes patience and self discipline or you find yourself with 1000 kinds of pliers. And if you can't buy what you need you will get something close and modify it to make it work. It is just how creative minds do things. It is part of the fun of it.

    Why mention the high price of your video equipment....nobody ask you to put your video's on the internet....btw i like your video's. They are informative, but come on......and i also use the GRS stuff, they are good, but highly overpriced.
