This past year has been a wake up call for us all and a reminder of our ancestors who STILL walk this earth. Big Island get so many stuff still go on there till this day like Night Marchers that legend is true and fireballs can still be seen in the sky sent by those families who still practice that.
My Babalawo told me that Oshun would protect me with everything she has. When he asked what she wanted she replied "Nothing." I'm blessed

That’s a year ago now and in two weeks I move to Zambia, Africa, to live by the Zambezi river. I’ve offered her flowers and wear yellow in her honour and she’s showed me an amazing path to abundance and prosperity 💛

It’s beautiful how much in common Oshun has with her mother Yemoja (though in some myths they are sisters). Both of them are the paramount deities of rivers in the Yoruba pantheon. The major differences between the two, is that Yemoja is considered “the metaphysical mother of all Orishas”, she is associated with motherhood/the fetus & amniotic fluids specifically, & is associated with the largest river in Yoruba land- the Ogun river etc. In AfroLatino denominations of Yoruba religion, Yemoja is also considered the co-ruler of the oceans/seas with Olokun. The “ocean/seas levels closets to the sun’s light, thus that have the most life”. As Yemaya was the Orisha that comforted the enslaved-Africans across the Atlantic, who would become AfroBrazilians, AfroCubans etc. Like all old & powerful world religions, Yoruba religion has various different poems, myths & stories that canonically contradict one another. And that is fine, religions are organic, they develop from a people-group through time. The Yoruba have always been diverse with many different sub-groups & city-states since the beginning. With that being said, there are many different traditional-origin stories for Yemoja & the world. In one myth, Yemoja is a “primordial Orisha” & was one of the 16 Orishas sent to prepare creation, as was Olofi’s command. It’s similar to the Oshun myth isn’t it. In another myth Yemoja was created from Olokun’s body & in another myth Yemoja is the daughter of Obatala. Speaking of Obatala, Obatala “the maker of human bodies”, in many traditions is gender-fluid, having both a female & male form. I hope HomeTeam makes a video on Yemoja, Oya, & Oshun some day, they are my favorite Orishas. ❤️

But Oshun DOES NOT destroy. That is not her domain, of the six that make the seven, they all have their embodiments. They’re three feminine manifestations of God and Three masculine Manifestations of God. Yemonja gives life, Osun is the EXPEREINCE of life, Oya is the destruction and transmutation of life. So, no, It is not in Osuns energy to destroy. She’s not a creation deity either, in that sense of childbirth and such. If you’re experiencing wrath, then you’re experiencing the manifestation of Oya who is the destroyer, because the three feminine energies will individual are one. A sacred trinity in a way.

Love your videos! 💞Oya actually played that nasty trick on Oba not Oshun. Oba was Shango's first wife, then Oya, and lastly Oshun which bore the twins for him. Oya was envious of Oba and knew her insecurity was her ears. Oya wanted Shango so bad that she would do anything to get him. After getting him Oya taught him many beautiful powers, but she was also very controlling. Shango; being who he was hated this and left in the most epic way possible. By faking his death. He eventually ran off with Oshun. Not painting her to be innocent. She had been watching him for a very long time. Plotting if you will. Studying the character of the three Goddesses it makes sense that it is believed to be Oshun, but this type of ruthlessness fits Oya alot better. Different cultures believe different stories though.

Most of the stories I've heard, It was Oya who was convinced Oba, Shango's first wife to cut off her ear. Oya was his favorite because she was a fierce warrior and often fought together. He was thunder, she was lightning or vice versa. Oshun was the younger wife.

You got the significance of the Iyalode title correct. There are still women who bear that title today, it is very prestigious. The word Iyalode translates to "Mother Warrior." Like most Orishas, Oshun has many aspects. From the Santeria/Lukumi perspective (Cuban), we call those aspects "caminos" or roads (in the Nigerian system, I believe they are called Oriki or "praise names"). The roads of Oshun represent the entirety of the feminine experience from girlhood up until eldership. There are caminos of Oshun that are connected to music and dance (Oshun Ibu Anya), some to divination (Ibu Kolé), wealth (Oshun Ibu Olodi), poverty (Oshun Akparo), etc.
Oshun is important to women in some obvious ways, but she is just as important to men. She helps us understand our own feminine energies to achieve balance with our masculinity. As with all orishas, her significance is internal and external. Yes, she represents love and sensuality, but also self-esteem and self-care; how other people may feel about you and how you feel about yourself. In the stories about her, Oshun was essentially tasked with overcoming her own insecurity (hence the pettiness, jealousy, etc.). For those of us who worship her, she helps us overcome those flaws and compassionately corrects us when we exhibit them.

Mami Wata is understood to be a manifestation of Yemoja which is an Orisha. Haitian Vodou refers to "La Sirene" (the mermaid), which has the same attributes as Yemoja/Mami Wata etc, so many of them are interpreted as different aspects of the same entity as interpreted by the various West African people,

I know it's likely not possible to find out, but I wonder how deep into history do these African mythologies go? Could it be possible that these deities have roots going back deep into antiquity, or even as far as the Neolithic and paleolithic?
Since humanity originated in subsaharan Africa, it would be cool to know if there are some deities that have survived and evolved since then. Imagine a subsaharan predecessor to Zeus, Odin or Yahweh.
I just need to add this Oshun is water Deity of love but you do not want to take her for granted because she is not to be played and Osun is Warrior with Ogun please get the Orishas name right. Being knowledgeable about orishas it about having a relationship with them.They are not decorations they are very powerful and doing for them so they can help you. You never know who is watching you. It could be a priest or priestess.

I heard a version that oya told oba to cut off her ear Oshun went looking for oba and apologized because she didn’t know she was feeling down. So the only way to be a child of oba is through oshun because oba couldn’t have children she gave oshun three keys that she could no longer give shango. Either way oba deserved more
