I'm super impressed by your analysis Jay especially for a first time listener! You pretty much nailed it though. The Animals album is based on the same concept as the book Animal Farm by George Orwell where the different farm animals represent different classes within society. The sheep are your ignorant working poor and middle class where dogs are considered more cut-throats like businessmen and politicians who support the hierarchy and the pigs who are held in power by the dogs who keep the sheep under control. It's a brilliant class analysis and a super cool album!

Years ago, my friends and I had been tripping (not the light fandango) all night and at about 5am we went bowling down to the cab rank at Chelsea bridge as that was the only place to get a cup of tea that early. We were walking along in sunglasses, yeah, I'm aware what tits we looked but when you took them off you were treated to a blaze of new colours. My pal, Paul suddenly noticed the dirigible over the Battersea powerstation and directed us to look. We had a good laugh, telling him he must be tripping etc but then we all saw it too even though we were coming down from our trip. We came to a concensus that we had been convinced by the power of suggestion. It wasn't til yonks later that we saw the album cover and the story behind it

The best concert I have ever attended was Pink Floyd in 1977 (i had been a fan of their music for several years from the "Ummagumma" album, followed by "Atom Heart Mother", "Obscured By Clouds", "Meddle", "DSOTM" and "WYWH") - they played the entire "Wish You Were Here" album, took a break, and then played the entire "Animals" album - it was amazing. You mentioned the swirling sounds - at that time, they were pioneers (in a lot of things) as they used a quadraphonic speaker setup (the main speakers by the stage, and then additional speakers on the sides and rear of the arena). The dog sounds (and the sheep sounds on "Sheep") were swirling around the arena. There was also a round screen behind the drummer that had 'videos" (although videos weren't a thing at the time) that went along with some of the songs. But, the most incredible thing I've ever seen/been a part of: at the end, everyone wanted an encore, and kept up the noise, shouting, clapping, whistling, etc. etc. until PF finally came back (after about 45 minutes - the crowd didn't let up!) and played "Money".

Comments below may say to listen to this album in its entirety to grasp fully the meaning and that is a good suggestion. This song has both David Gilmour( the first part) and Rogers Waters( second part) singing lead. Looking forward to your reaction
Note: I may be wrong in the above but I always thought a heard of a difference in the second part of the song. If I am wrong please let me know

“Echoes” by PF is one of their masterpieces - gotta react to it, Jay. Amazing what they did while so young! I prefer the live in Pompeii version from 1972 (?), where they played in the ancient amphitheater with just their crew...playing to the ghosts of Pompeii 🎶🔥🎶 But, finish the Animals album first while this song is fresh in your mind🤗
Pink Floyd is wonderful at taking you places mentally & spiritually.

That would be my recommendation too. I wore out my VHS tape of Live at Pompeii. It has to be the original version though, not the directors cut.

Pink Floyd never gets old. From the psychedelic days of 1966 with Syd Barrett to 2014's Endless River album (no one ever reacts to their last hit "Louder Than Words", such a masterpiece!) Roger Waters and David Gilmour are still performing and making new music in 2020.

Yes those wailing guitars were impressive, perfectly matching that red sunset on the Battersea Power plant on the front cover - no turned into a commercial center I believe. I kind of liken this work to the painter Lowry - he painted dour industrial settings around him. Not what you would expect from an artist. Pink Floyd have done the same in this respect.

After almost 30 years of "getting lost" in Pink Floyd when I needed them, from the hopeless depression of The Wall, to the self discovery of Dark Side of the Moon...this album (Animals) has emerged as my favorite. People will try to tell you what a particular song or album is about, and it may be true, but don't hesitate to assign a personal meaning to it...I rather think that's what Pink Floyd wanted...

MY FAVE FLOYD SONG EVER!!! My fave Floyd album. And frankly, the lyrics reminded me back when i first heard this in the early 90’s, of Bill Clinton, as it was election time... still can pertain to politics in 2020, u think..? I know its about the industry, but i always refer politics to it, which is similar... I fucking love everything about this!!

The Animals album is one of Pink Floyd's most underrated albums, and it really is a mini-masterpiece about corporate corruption, played out in the form of animals (Pigs, Dogs and Sheep...I think you can probably guess which each animal represents). With the exception of the opening and closing songs, every song on this album is at least ten minutes long. Very much in the same vain as Dark Side Of The Moon and The Wall, very heavy subjects with lyrics that will make you think twice about things you may have always taken for granted.

The guitar duets in this song is one of the best and both parts played by David Gilmour. BTW, I understand Gilmour also played the bass guitar track while Roger Waters played the acoustic guitar throughout. On tour for this album, they took Whitey Ford of Everlast to play the duet with Gilmour.

People don't even know things. That tape echo on the word "stone". It comes back in an exact mirror. It you have this album on cassette, when it gets to that part, flip the tape right away. You'll hear the "stone" echo come back in, in the middle of Sheep. It was designed that way, on purpose.
