    You got me thinking of getting into this as a hobby. Making rats break dance for me looks like fun. You had a gymnast in the video! It should have got judge reviews for it's floor routine. For rats: which caliber do you suggest for U.S. market? .177? .22? .25? There's a small problem I wonder about: if I want the velocity for a flatter trajectory - I am zipping the pellet right through the rat, right? Is there any possibility of a pellet expanding and transferring maximum available energy into the rat? With optimal accuracy at range?

    • @SouthOZHobbyHunter
      @SouthOZHobbyHunter  2 года назад +1

      I love the .22 for a few reasons. It is not effected by the wind as much as the .177. It is cheap and readily available. Various types and styles of pellets.
      Yes the .177 has a flatter trajectory and to get the same from a .22 you need to boost the velocity up so not only do you over penetrate but you air consumption would be much higher.
      The range on the .22 is more than enough for taking out rats, my longest shot so far on a rat was a 76meter head shot. The scope and ballistic range finder is certainly a great help in both long and short shots.

    Tecnicamente hace un exelente trabajo claro no estoy a favor de matar animales pero viendo en casos historicos como siertos animales pueden contraer y esparsir... preferiria erradicarlas o moverlas a otro sitio para que los depredadores naturales hagan su trabajo

      Comparto en parte tu opinión, pero estoy de acuerdo 👍, aunque "creo" el tirador (muy bueno como dices) es de Australia, y hay las ratas son una plaga para la fauna local, por lo que (si es que es de Australia, claro) está realizando una labor en favor de la fauna australiana, que está sufriendo por las especies invasoras.

      Technically it does an excellent job of course I am not in favor of killing animals but seeing in historical cases how certain animals can contract and spread ... I would prefer to eradicate them or move them to another site so that natural predators can do their job.
      Thanks but moving them doesn't fix the problem it just relocates it. As for natural predators, that is the problem here in Australia we have very few large predators.

    Without a doubt this is very important work to be done. The slugs seem to knock down the rats very well, but seem to have problems with the pigeons and I'm not sure why that is? It would appear that the rats have tunnelled under the s floor slab of the piggery which is something of a problem. The night scope and video picture it supplies are amazing and when combined with the reflective glow from the rats eyes it makes spotting them at night easier than during the daylight. Keep up the good work!

    Really strange rats you got down under. Seems they are pretty stupid - they dont even care much if their comrade dies right next to them.
    I have shot at rats myself, and found it rather futile. You shoot one, then all the others run away, and dont show up again for the next 3-4 hours. And if they get shot at several times in one place, they dont go there at all again. So shooting is basically a wasted time, if you really want to get rid of them.

    Do you have an external air supply for the rifle, or does the rifle have an internal cylinder & you recharge it at intervals? Greetings from Alberta Canada where we have no rats. I kid you not. There is a provincial agency called the "Rat Patrol" & they inspect rail cars & trucks coming into the province,. They also monitor "tips" & other likely places for Norwegian rats to appear.

    These rat-shooing videos are so strange.
    The rats are like zombies;
    they barely react to the sound of danger and the smell of blood.
    Rats are prey items for many creatures.
    One would expect the rats to all scatter after one of theirs is taken.

      An interesting, but judging by the number of rats, a useless activity, when there are so many rats, you need to use poison.
      These farms do use poisons as well we are just there to help out by getting a few more.
