When I was a boy I used to shoot rats in a "tip" in Eastern Canada, but I have NEVER seen such a proliferation of rats in any one area as you have there. My favourite gun was a Remington "Nylon 66:, with a tube magazine & standard open sights. Nice shooting !
I know that I'm coming to this video 9 months after it was uploaded to RUclips, but it's the funniest one I've watched so far! It's the wry humor commentary that makes the difference...
You got me thinking of getting into this as a hobby. Making rats break dance for me looks like fun. You had a gymnast in the video! It should have got judge reviews for it's floor routine. For rats: which caliber do you suggest for U.S. market? .177? .22? .25? There's a small problem I wonder about: if I want the velocity for a flatter trajectory - I am zipping the pellet right through the rat, right? Is there any possibility of a pellet expanding and transferring maximum available energy into the rat? With optimal accuracy at range?
I love the .22 for a few reasons. It is not effected by the wind as much as the .177. It is cheap and readily available. Various types and styles of pellets. Yes the .177 has a flatter trajectory and to get the same from a .22 you need to boost the velocity up so not only do you over penetrate but you air consumption would be much higher. The range on the .22 is more than enough for taking out rats, my longest shot so far on a rat was a 76meter head shot. The scope and ballistic range finder is certainly a great help in both long and short shots.
@@SouthOZHobbyHunter Does your scope automatically adjust the crosshairs to accommodate distance? I've noticed in a couple o videos your crosshairs move and look like they reposition.
@@TwentyTwoThirtyThree Yes there is a ballistic computer build into the scope. Setting it up took a lot of time and testing but was worth it for the results it achives.

I would prefer to eradicate them or move them to another site so that natural predators can do their job. Thanks but moving them doesn't fix the problem it just relocates it. Without a doubt this is very important work to be done. The slugs seem to knock down the rats very well, but seem to have problems with the pigeons and I'm not sure why that is? The night scope and video picture it supplies are amazing and when combined with the reflective glow from the rats eyes it makes spotting them at night easier than during the daylight.
