Engineers at GM and the middle men who allowed media to connect to them as a resource are GOATs. This is the only channel doing this level of deep dive. Fantastic video and much appreciated
Whatever connections you guys have at GM. Thank you! Because it's not normal to get videos like this let alone getting to do interview with chief engineers and other top dogs at GM.
As an owner, i love them, and it would make sense to upload about it, whatever the car is, if they are literally owning and putting a lot of money into for a planned project.
My closest dealer is already stating they are doing a $100k markup on ZR1s. The dealership model is broken beyond repair, and if politicians were in their pockets, they would have removed the legal barriers preventing direct to consumer sales structures. This NEEDS to happen.
Pretty sure they use link tracking with unique id’s when you share a video to people and they watch it. So sharing it with some homies will help it big time
I love how excited the engineers were that they were not going to be held back by previous projects or engine designs (pushrods). They got to create a clean sheet modern DOHC engine and their efforts really paid off.
All jokes aside, I love that ever since the ZL1 1LE GM has been putting on some absolute units with maximized rotor face, thick disks, tiny hats, the whole deep dish. Feels like you're actually getting good value compared to the aftermarket.
This is pure gold! Thank you for the great insight from the engineers that built this! So great to see Chevy has removed the bean counters from affecting the outcome of an amazing product!
18:00 wonderful to hear this level of detail from an actual engineer. Manifold setup reminds me of the Honda engines, where they have maniturbo's aswell, or at the very least very short tubing from the exhaust, because its right next to the ports.
what an amazing piece of content aimed a really dissecting the engineering achievement that is the ZR-1... I just hope the dealers don't ruin this for everyone.
What a beast!!! And another should be award-winning documentary from The Geese. Hopefully the car media still won’t be all “yeah, but it’s not a super car because it’s built in the US,” bullshit.
What a fabulous film! Getting a behind the curtain chat with engineers is always a treat. I love that they admit to bench marking against Ferrari & Porsche, and the fact they have owned various examples too. 1064hp from a stock corvette with a warranty…. What a great time for enthusiasts. Hopefully they can control scummy dealer markups that will then put a black eye on this car.
"...full sensory experience. It's not just pure speed." 100%...this is EVs in a nutshell. I always thought the fact that someone could stroll into a showroom and buy a regular, production car with over 700 horsepower, WITH A WARRANTY, is absolutely amazing. And now that gets pushed even further. I don't think we'll actually be able to get one for...like...forever (at least not without paying a CRAZY markup)...but someday, you'll be able to walk in and buy a car with over 1000 horsepower. Regular, production car. With a warranty. What a time to be alive...
Great Video!!! As a multi-decade GM tech the detail and efforts that went into the vehicle will bring new challenges but also a dream come true for the enthusiasts. When Chevrolet put the world on notice a few years ago, they were not kidding. I hope GM's engineering can continue to pull the GM brands to the top. Love how the group of engineers on this project were given free reign to build the best.
I just noticed something watching this video; This car has 2.5L of displacement less, 94 less Lb-ft of torque, weights 407lbs less, makes 63 more horsepower, and is missing two turbos compared to a Bugatti Veyron.. Thats pretty fire! (Also is also 20mph slower at top speed for the non Super Sport Variant)
YESSSS ive been hoping you'll do an engineering video on the zr1! What an amazing video man. You'll never get any of this information literally anywhere else on the internet. So cool :D
Amazing, Amazing, Amazing! I don't know which I should thank more: Chevrolet for the C8 and its iterations or, The world for SavageGeese. Either way, Very Well Done. P.S. - I've now watched the C8 Zo6 video 10-15 times...
Finally, after 15 years GM came up with a car that competes with the first gen Nissan GT-R on the track. Congrats GM you finally did it. All jokes aside the C8 is the first GM product i would consider cross-shopping with a 911 or a used SRT Viper.
I love how the gm engineers admitted To using a Porsche and a Ferraris as their benchmark vehicles and the respect it shows they have for Porsche and Ferrari
I clicked quickly in the hopes to see Jacks U face and T-growling backed by evil laughter in the midst of Marks fears and disgust. I hope this is the one.
At 26:38, he says that titanium connecting rods maintain a more consistent level of bearing clearance to a steel crank than a steel rod and crank will do, so you can run tighter clearances that stay more nominal throughout the temperature range. Whereas a steel rod, steel crank setup has larger clearances at high temp. Does anyone want to try to explain why that might be the case? My interpretation is that because the titanium has a lower coefficient of expansion than steel, the bearing clearance shrinks at high temperature, but because you're spinning the rods super fast, G-forces are distorting the rod journals and opening up the clearances. Those two factors tend to cancel each other out, resulting in a more consistent bearing gap and less impact force on the bearings.
Watching this as I walk home in the middle of the night from my works Christmas party, too many drinks deep and this drops. Gonna be sobering me up on the way home. Epic vid as always Mark and Jack!
On one hand, it's an incredible machine and this is an amazing YT channel! On the other hand, looking at the extreme complexity involved, even without the cool sounds, I think eventually (ten years from now? 20?) as batteries improve electric sports cars will dominate actual production and sales.
@@rlsedition It's not my dream certainly - I like EV daily cars and gas fun cars. But I predict there will eventually be mostly EVs and only a few speciality-use gas cars.
@@kylecordes You could be right, but most folks are pretty practical in their transportation choices, which is why SUVs are the preferred choice right now. To end up with mostly EVs the pricing has to come way down and their need more clearly defined. Telling people we have to reduce CO2 or risk temperatures rising by 1 degree C in the next century isn't quite enough to prove it's an "existential threat".
7:47 I absolutely abhor the interaction between the carpet and pedal there. That seems like an accident just *waiting* to occur when your floor mat gets stuck on your accelerator. There is pretty much 0 reason to need protection that high.
Jack uses his Z06 as a door dash car, so when he stores a platter of lasagna by his feet it helps protect the car and easy to scoop customer food back in.
Hopefully my boss understands why I took almost an hour in the bathroom
😂
2x speed 😉
He's probably doing the same if he's a smart man
“I think the cranberry sauce went bad…”

Motoring journalism at its finest.

Why this channel doesn't have millions of followers boggles my mind. Keep up the great work boys.
Because there's not a lot of viewers for long format car content. Pretty straight forward.
Not all of the people love seeing Marks excited face while launching 130hp car.
Maybe because 99% of the viewers can’t afford the zr1
Learning =/= society
People just want quirks, features or over-exaggerated reactions rather than a professional car review

And to get to race on MRC, that is an incredibly rare treat in itself.
Holy fuck. It’s not another GR Corolla video.
Or Porsche video! 😮
or bmw video!
It’s a decent engine but it’s no B58.
As an owner, i love them, and it would make sense to upload about it, whatever the car is, if they are literally owning and putting a lot of money into for a planned project.
@@michaelw6277are you serious or its a joke ??!!
Also the stories from tadge on his first experiences and influences from sports cars are priceless

How else do you expect dealerships to pay for their drug & alcohol habits?!
The dealer does take the excitement out with a new car purchase nowadays!!!
Saw a 100k markup on as hellcat, couldn’t believe it
That shit won't last
@@floodo1who would even pay MSRP for that whale?😂
Gonna like this video and replay it 17 times so RUclips finally recommends this channel to the masses

MERICA, this is what the world needs, Corvette showing that too much power is still not enough power.
I love how excited the engineers were that they were not going to be held back by previous projects or engine designs (pushrods). They got to create a clean sheet modern DOHC engine and their efforts really paid off.
Those rotors are so intense looking. They finally match the performance of the shoes these owners wear.
All jokes aside, I love that ever since the ZL1 1LE GM has been putting on some absolute units with maximized rotor face, thick disks, tiny hats, the whole deep dish.

My wife’s boyfriend has a build allotment for one of these. Him and I are going to pick it up together when it gets delivered.
Ahahahahahaahahahahaah
lol “my wife’s boyfriend…”.
Good morning to you too! Thank you for the great comment!
That’s really cool of Jack

So is the Zora going to have the ZR1’s ICE drivetrain + ERay’s front electric drivetrain? 1224 AWD hp?
One of the best videos you put out from a technical standpoint, your videos keep getting better and better 🗣 🔥 🔥‼
The ZR1 has an aura of being far more special than any current mid engined Ferrari. I applaud GM for developing something this wild!

Crazy they benchmarked the SF90
I can’t get over things about this car that I can’t afford!
