Notoriously hard growing that’s why I stay away from growing it
99% no fruits unless you do grafting. And need big space to grow
It just takes 4-5 years for it to bear fruit, it could be worse, like mango, that takes 10-15 years

Yeah probably a few days to sprout that big. I’ve put a sprouted potato in cup with water and it grew to around 6 inches in a week

Looks so cool in just about 3 months.
Few years ago i hated the taste of durian and its smell.
However i ate one. Its delicious. (No money to buy more)
Probably 10 years from now you will have fruits if you have right conditions good soil consistent watering nutrition add it when it needs it should be a tropical location and keep it constantly watered during hot days then you have to worry about diseases pest and many more have fun
sometimes u can get the first crops within 3-5 years (ideally, commercially), of course it depends on the types of durian and how u take care of it :))

The trees may occasionally survive to temperatures as low as 10 degrees. The leaves would probably drop. A good indicator if you can successfully grow a Durian tree is if coconut trees can grow in your area.

Did you wipe it with an antiseptic/alcohol tissue first?
I did the same thing several years ago. It get molded instead of sprouting. Dunno what I did wrong.
Honestly I wouldn’t recommend direct contact with water like this ether. I feel that seeds grow better thru a medium (water soaked dirt, cotton, peat) than letting sit in water. But i guess it also depends on the plant itself.
I do wonder if he changed the water everyday to prevent it from going stale tho.
