It's realistic too as I'm sure killers are like this to try and convince their victims they're safe and it'll all pass. Killers who abduct victims don't always let their victims know what their fate is which is actually helpful to the victim I'd imagine because they're calmer, don't panic and are able to think of a plan while pretending to have Stockholm syndrome and convince their captures to give them a longer leash which makes them be able to escape.

I know the movie tries to portray the phone as magical or paranormal, but its definitely not. The voices he hears throughout the movie are actually his own thoughts but personified as the people he "knew". Everything they told him was easily perceivable by himself if he looked. He made those voices in his head to cope and give him hope. This becomes very apparent in the scenes with Robin, one of his close friends. His "spirit" serves as that last push to make him do what he has to do. Really loved this movie

This movie was great. In fact it was probably one of my favorite suspense thrillers, especially because the kid learns to stick up for himself. Do you have to fight. There's not one movie in your life that you're not fighting.. I got bullied when I was a kid, and I joined the military, and I learned to stick up for myself. There's not one moment in your entire life that you're not fighting.

@@duanehall2213 the oxymoron, is that bullying made me who I am today. I stood up for myself, in Middle School. My bastard father taught me how to wrestle in box, I joined the wrestling team, I thrived, I gained popularity, after college, on a full wrestling scholarship, I joined the US Department of agriculture as a firefighter, and now I have the life that I've always wanted. When people say that bullying is a bad thing they are correct. But it also teaches you to stick up for yourself. This isn't an all-inclusive world. We need to learn to be tough and overcome. And that is exactly what this movie is about. It's not an all-inclusive world, this man doesn't care whether this kid is gay straight, he doesn't care what this kid's pronouns are. He is the enemy, and this kid needs to learn to overcome. That's exactly what this world is. I know for a fact that this world is trying to make it an all-inclusive pretty place for everybody to live, but that's just not the case.the reality is we need the battle dress everyday. I spent a combined total of 15 months in afghanistan, and they didn't care what my pronouns were, they didn't care what my beliefs were, it was war. It was hell it was disgusting. I came home, with the ability to hold my head high, and book my son in the eyes, and tell him I love him and I fought. The all-inclusive pretty world that America tries to be, didn't matter. It doesn't matter. The only thing that matters, is surviving. And being the blunt of a bully, taught me how to survive. I wouldn't change a thing. Not for a moment in any world

Most monsters are a lot more subtle and don't actually take the children but abuse them (physically, emotionally, mentally, etc. etc.) on a regular basis. They keep it secret and make the kid keep it a secret or do it subtly with other people around and it's usually someone they know. I personally know way too many cases from the 80s where there was actual evidence of physical abuse and molestation and the abusers just got a probation sentence for a few months. I don't even think it went on their records.

As a child the school looking at you positively is a confidence boost. He sits next to the girl he could even utter a word too at the end. Tells her to call him Finn. His relationship with his sister grows and his father changes.
There's so much more to the end rather than "he was the cool kid in class"
You're allowed to still not like it, but the message was not that he was the cool kid. It was that he was no longer the shell he was.

The grabber is such a deeply unsettling antagonist, and all the visceral disgust and horror for his actions comes from the knowledge that nothing he does is supernatural. All actors were incredible, the mask was cool and creepy, the kids were all great, fantastic story with depth that added much needed drama to genre where that often gets overlooked. A+ stuff
