Iv got 4x 16 room houses and 24 gourds on 2 poles set up for the last 6 years. It went as follows: 1st year: 21 Martin's with 47 babies that made it. 2nd year: 38 Martin's w/121 babies. 3rd year 48 Martin's w/212 babies. 4th year 36 Martin's w/98 babies 5th year 51 Martin's w/264 babies 6th year 60 Martin's w/197 babies. Fingers crossed we have a great 7th year this year. Good luck on your colony I love it when all the fledgling are flying around and it gets seriously loud in the yard.
Holy smokes! That's one busy summer over there! I'm removing my house this year just going with gourds! Easier to manage and the PM's prefer them! Good luck to you but I bet you won't have a problem!
Very interesting video, I'm trying to attract purple martins on my property, live in Alabama, have one house 🏠 up, your video is very helpful, can you tell where you you purchased your gourds, thanks for sharing, subscribed.
I got them and the house online at www.purplemartin.org/ I'm done with the house next year. They don't like it over the gourds. I have an update video coming out tomorrow on the martins. Think I ended up getting 4 pairs. I go into a little more detail about the martins. Thanks
@@HomeProHero past couple days been getting my gourds and houses ready, they usually come here February round 20th I've had purple martins for the past 35 years, built a few great crested flycatcher boxes they're awesome birds to attract, you should check out a few videos on them, this will be my 3rd year having flycatchers, the box similar to a bluebird house just taller and wider, hope you have success with your martins😇
That's great! How long and how many pairs last year? I'm looking forward to this spring only going with gourds and adding a few more. Had my pole bracket modified to just have hoards !
@@aDiam9545 that's great! Man I don't see them up here until the first week in April :) I live in Central Indiana. Good Luck keep me updated on ur numbers!
@@HomeProHero last year was my worst year, had 12 come last week of January, we got a late cold spell and they died, after we got warmer weather later on I only got 8,kinda made me sad 😔, by the way have you checked out any videos on the Great crested flycatchers?
@@aDiam9545 I heard about that cold weather last year :( I'm having a custom bracket made for my pole to eliminate the house and add more gourds. Hope to have 12 pair had 7 last year. Haven't had a chance to watch any videos yet but I will!
There is a easier way to do the cable. Run cable from winch up and through the pulley. bring the cable back down the pole to the winch (or close), tape the cable to the pole. Now slid the house down over the pole.
@@HomeProHero Good luck this season. I lost mine to owls last year...Heart breaking..Now I have guards . I didn't think I had any either, but 1 showed up 1 night.
I would contribute to this hobby if it wasn't a "for profit" hobby... What I mean by this is the equipment necessary to setup a Purple Martin community is excessive. The houses are expensive, if you want owl/hawk guards your spending hundreds more. A good pole with winch will run you @ $850!
I agree it's not cheap! I wasted money on that house the PM love the gourds. I'm having a local guy make me a bracket for just the gourds. The brackets online $!$! But I did RC planes when I was younger and that was even worse. At least I feel like I'm helping nature somewhat :)
I have heard of feeding them crushed egg shells or scramble eggs ,I've noticed at times the martins would the egg shells after the babies hatch, eat or remove shells from the nest ,seen some videos on it

That's an awesome tractor, man. I didn't know you had that.
Had it since we built the house. Instead paying a guy to grade and landscape I did and bought the tractor with the savings :) It's a great tractor!

Live worms or the dried meal worms that Tractor Supply sells?
