    this is the best performance demo video for the monolith on RUclips! im very happy with my dual thx12's. im glad that the monolith series turned out to be a pretty serious and legit line of equipment, because "monoprice? 🤔" but now im "😁👍monoprice!" i completely agree, best bang for ur buck and cant go wrong with that. but i do love the look and design of the monolith subs, definitely a manlier looking subwoofer that lets u know it means business at first glance, like another fellow youtuber home theater hobbyist puts it as "batman's subwoofer!" even if it creates a few conversations with the wife, i was like "woman! i pay the mortgage dont i?! 🧐" but after i got this "🤨😠😡🤬" from her, i was like "im kidding, u cant even take a joke anymore! 😅😬🤐" "can i please keep them? 😓😖" i love my wife 😅😳😨😓...... keep up the great work! cant wait to see what kind of numbers u get!👍👌

I say that knowing full well the PB16 will have more output (larger driver, 500 more RMS watts, double the price), but I've always wondered how close does the Mono15 come to the PB16? If possible it'd be great to see a qualitative and quantitative comparison. Basically a video like today where you comment on your personal experience between the two subs (with referenced levels, watching the same movie scenes), and then a quantitative comparison with your microphone showing the numerical output difference. Many thanks Youthman!

    Great video. I have a couple questions when you get around to it. I see you calibrated to reference 75dB, but what was the master volume on the AVR? 0.00dB for both movies aka reference? 2nd question, why don’t we see that kind of excursion on the Klipsch 15in sub (115sw)? I hear a lot of output from my 115sw subs but they don’t seem to have to move as much.... I get it is because it is such a large driver but still. OK third question does the Klipsch sub not compare to either of these as far as tactile feedback and raw output? At one point the Klipsch was $399. I thought I had a “real” sub since it is a 15 and goes down to 18Hz. Hope you had fun at cheer! Love my 11mo niece!!! Thanks.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman 5 лет назад

      Yes the volume was at 0dB.
      Klipsch speaker’s and subs are not designed with high excursion. It’s not because it’s a 15’ as other 15” drivers like the Monolith have plenty of excursion.
      The R-115SW is a lower end sub than these two.

    • @jarednielsen5041

      Klipsch subs are not even in the same league. They can get loud, but lack the visceral punch that SVS or monolith subs have. Speaking from experience. Also I would not touch those Klipsch subs with a 10 foot pole. Had an r-112sw amp fail and then my buddy Klipsch failed. I read countless forum posts about Klipsch amp failures. This is just not a problem with SVS or monoprice.

    Loved the comparison! I have the HSU VTF3 MK5 and was debating on picking up the mono 15 or pb3000 as an upgrade. Getting some nasty port noise during the "edge of tomorrow" intro on my HSU and curious if these subs do the same? Everything points towards the HSU VTF3 MK5 being pretty competitive with the pb3000, if not exceeding it and the Mono a step ahead of both. I'm a big fan of the punchiness and clean sound that SVS subs offer though! I have a "little" pb1000 in my family room that's corner loaded, and to my ears at least, it sounds cleaner and punchier then my much larger HSU VTF3 MK5. Output the HSU wins hands down, but that svs pb1000 is killer for the size and price!

    • @poserwanabe

      If you define the mid bass region to be more or less 100hz - 250hz the steep crossover slope of the sub rolls it off let's say around 80hz depending on setting, so they're not covering that range.

    It almost seems like SVS tries to constantly push dual subwoofers, which is always a good idea, but in the middle ground of their series (3000 & 4000) they can't keep up 1 on 1 with many other ID manufacturers. It appears that the performance and value lies in the series 2000 and below and the overwhelming performance that merits price is the PB 16 ultra. That's just my opinion of course, I've never heard someone disappointed with any of their products and I've really enjoyed the SVS subs that I've heard but it's likely their overall customer service and warranty is the best selling point over others.

  • @AGC828
    @AGC828 5 лет назад

    Seems not to be a fair comparison. Only aspects that do...is the price as you mentioned. Would the SB15''s speaker volume compare better? Be more similar? Then the difference in driver size would be less. If we ignore the mechanics involved in each sub to move the drivers. Would be interesting to do a 2 Monolith vs 2 SVS PB16's test. Ultimately unless the driver/cabinet size were the same..there might always be an unfair advantage to the bigger sub. with the larger driver...some subs have 2 drivers...etc.

      Unfortunately I can only review what subs I have. I had a single PB3000, a single Monolith 15 and had my Dual PB16's. I did compare the Monolith 15 to the PB16 in this video - ruclips.net/video/tOkcKe3DUD0/видео.html. This is more of a fair comparison as far as driver size and cabinet size but price is WAY different. $1300 vs $2500 so many would say that's not a fair comparison.
      The reality is most people buy a subwoofer based on their budget. If they have a $1500 budget, the PB16 isn't even an option. That's why I prefer to compare subs based on price since most want to know what is the best bang for my buck.

    What did you have the gains set on subs? In my experience with PB-1000 + 2000, SVS like a higher gain on the sub with lower output at the AVR.
    I ran my dual PB-1000’s at half ways on the gain for a few years.
    After watching a RUclipsr I cranked the gains up to 2-3 o’clock and reduced the avr output accordingly.
    Man, I couldn’t believe what I had been missing all this time. Seriously.
    I done the same with my new PB-2000’s and was getting blurred vision 😂 so I had to back them off a little more compared to the 1000’s before I burst a blood vessel 😄 but even the 2000’s at twelve o’clock were a little ‘weak’ if that makes sense.
    Maybe this is true of the monolith too, be worth investigating 🤷🏼‍♂️

They start with how much money am I willing to spend and then they research options within that budget. $1300 Monolith isn’t the same budget as the next highest $1900 PB4000 and most say the Monolith can definitely compete with the PB4000 and cost $600 less.

      I am convinced that the reason the pb3000 is the same price as the monolith yet with a smaller driver and less power is because they offer the app, all the ability to change the settings intricately. Also, a person is going to pay for the excellent customer service one of the best warranties in the business, Etc. All of those things add up in the price.

      I have no doubt that the monolith is capable of deeper more impactful and tactile base as it should be for the reasons that you mentioned in the video. That doesn't mean the pb3000 is overpriced for the reasons that I just mentioned. As I stated before I have dual pb3000 and they Rock Me duals make a difference.

      James Wiens The app doesn’t add that much to the price of the PB3000 as the app is utilized throughout many of their subs so the cost to implement that into the PB3000 is minimal. Part of the cost is a result of their distribution through Big Box stores like Best Buy. When you go that route, you have no choice but to increase your prices.
      Remember when SVS entered the market, they quickly began to dominate the space because of their price to performance ratio. Now that price to performance has decreased greatly.

      That's a great point! Although I think the quality is still really good that the price increase is not a rip off. Your thoughts?

    Would be great to get an RTA overlay for these shootouts of the room during playback. Not saying that watching the cone dance isn't fun though :P

      Absolutely, REW has an RTA built in along with db meter. Just HIT that RTA button at the top menu bar in REW for sweet real-time goodness :P

    Nice and honest review. Keep it up! Just a note to add up aside from the cabinet volume and bigger woofer size, this is a battle between an 800 watt and 1000 watt sub. It's like comparing PB1000 to PB2000 with 200 watt more power from PB2000 and a larger woofer size.

      I considered mentioning the wattage difference but it really is insignificant when you consider it takes double the power to achieve a 3dB Gain in volume so you wouldn’t hear a difference between a 800w and a 1000w amp.
