The reasoning for the color changing is because Super Dragon Ball Z is trying to be accurate to the manga's color palette, where most of goku's energy blasts and balls including spirit bombs and kamehamehas are yellow, and auras for good guys, no matter the form, are blue, at the very least when the game released.
I know everyone likes the way kakorot did it, but I personally think dokkan did it best the way everything is perfectly accurate with both GT and DBZ it's amazing I love those 2 incarnations of the Genki Dama the most.
