India's Little Portugal

- Goa was once a Portuguese colony it's evident preserved 17th-century churches and the area’s tropical spice plantations makes Goa a special place.
We had the pleasure to visit some of the churches and a neighbourhood called Fontainhas where the Portuguese culture is still more evident, some people can still even speak Portuguese. We were blown away by what we found, if you want to be blown away to watch the video.

I am Brazilian and it´s amazing to me hearing someone speaking Portuguese in Goa. Of course I am also part of this...
There are also other parts in India where Portuguese people are living.
(1) the territory of Goa with the capital, a considerable area in the middle of the west coast of India; (2) Damão, or Daman, with the separated territories of Dadrá and Nagar Haveli, north of Mumbai (formerly Bombay) and lying between the Indian states of Maharashtra and Gujarat; (3) Diu with Pani Kota Island on the southern coast of the Kathiawar Peninsula in Gujarat state.
@SAILEE 127 Goa is most loved place in whole India. And everyone respect Goan culture.

@@ritesh3539 are u goan??
@@vaishaliwellingkar564 does it matter??
@@ritesh3539 most feel the tourists who come to visit goa are destroying its natural beauties.Maybe that's the reason
@@ritesh3539 there are more than 1 lakh Goan catholics living in Portugal happily even the current prime minister is a Goan Catholic
It is true that many people did not wanted unification with India just like in case of Hyderabad but there were others who wanted unification as well .
It doesn't matter anyways because Portugal has granted citizenship to any Goan who was born before December of 1961 and three generations after them and in modern days most Goan Catholic have relatives abroad in Portugal
Mostly because the agricultural reforms brought by the Indian government made the Catholic landlords basically landless
In fact the population of Christians in Goa has collapsed from 64 % to just 25% mainly because of immigration
I am one of those, let's hope peace is between two different nations as I said even our current prime minister is a goan Catholic origin .
Im Indian with a Portuguese last name! but not from Goa however my grandparent’s of my father’s side has an extended family and their ancestors were probably from the Goan region.

So the Indian government don't teach the Indian language

Cut the crap yo.. When Portuguese annexed goa , you call it inquisition , when india reclaimed you call it annexation .. thats a pure double standard , Yes history cannot be denied . But maybe most goans dont know what hell their hindu ancestors have been throught while Portuguese intolerance was pushed by jesuit missions . The bigeest problem was the intolerance of native local religion .. Most goans dont know their Maichi Bhaas the language concanim they are ao proud of was once termed as language of slaves on its own land . No doubt the Portuguese brought up this land to the modern world from mediaeval..
But by the logic people are giving here ,
India is Britan alond with 70 % earth
Vietnam ia french
Phillipeans is american
The world would be a different map with these logic ...
@Thomas Anderson thats what my question is , How did goa became a predominantly christian land ?? Its 5000 kms off Bethlehem ? Goa was not a part of the Roman empire either .
Why are your dates begining from 1560... ?? How can you forget that the documented history existed 3 millennials before they arrived ?
You start from ABC. Not from IJK. IJK may be a part of ABCD ..
@Thomas Anderson Secomdly sir , If Portuguese came to some Land they should be ready for a change , Why did they impose their language and religion on the locals ,. Why dis they execute people blaming them of krypto hinduism ? How is that justified .. and if it is than how is settling back hindus wrong ?
Why did the Portuguese descrated the temples ? They could have built rhe churches beside it?
@Thomas Anderson i am not anti Portuguese . In fact eu tambem sei falar bem portuguea . Eu sou de Daman .
But how do you deny the fact that Something that gave you civilization because you chose to abide by the colonisers , UPROOTED our civilaisation .
we were forced to leave our lands .
Portuguese came to Bombay Vasai , Daman diu , Dadra nagar haveli and Sri lanka as well So are all of them predominant Christian lands ?

At least get the Names right of people you are referring to. 😑
The narrative you are trying to build is a new narrative from Stephan Neil translation of St. Francis Xavier's letters. No other Historians have used the word 'Inquisition'.
If u want to learn portugese go to korlai village in maharastra whole village is speaking portugese there is mixture of portugese and marathi in village
They were spanish in Goa too but They speak portuguese. Because Portugal and Spain were one people but différents dialect language
Hope you are enjoying your trip to Goa.
