Oonche Log ( ऊँचे लोग, High Society People) was a 1965 Hindi film directed by Phani Majumdar. It was based on play Major Chandrakant by noted Tamil film director-screenwriter, K. Balachander. The main character roles of this film were played by Ashok Kumar, Raaj Kumar and Feroz Khan. Its lyrics were composed by Majrooh Sultanpuri and the music was given by Chitragupta.
The film was shot at Vauhini Studios, Chennai, was also noted as first big hit of newcomer Feroz Khan, who was noted for his sensitive performance against veterans like Raaj Kumar and Ashok Kumar. At the 13th National Film Awards it won the award for Second Best Feature Film in Hindi It was later remade by K. Balachander himself as Major Chandrakanth (1966), starring J. Jayalalitha and Muthuraman.
Storyline :-
After the passing of his wife, Lakshmi, retired Indian Army Major Chandrakant, though blind, lives a wealthy lifestyle with his two sons, Rajnikant, a member of the National Cadet Corps, and Inspector Shreekant. He would like to get Rajnikant married to Pallavi, the only daughter of hen-pecked school-master Gunichand, as well as get Shreekant also married to another girl, both on the same day. Gunichand accordingly makes arrangements for a joint wedding to take place on 11th May. Before that could happen, Rajnikant, who has to return for training, must undertake a journey to visit a woman, Vimla Prabhu, whose husband is ill, and Chandrakant gives him some money from his wallet. Quite mysteriously, Chandrakant's finds all his money missing, and after inquiring, will get Shreekant to admit that he had taken the money without permission. Chandrakant does not know that Shreekant is not being forthright and is concealing a terrible life-changing secret..

कितनी कोमलता और माधुर्य है रफ़ी साहब की आवाज़ में। रफ़ी साहब की गायन की खास खूबी है कि वह जो भी गाना गाते हैं ऐसा जान पड़ता है कि वह गाना रफी साहब न गा कर कलाकार स्वयं अपनी स्वर में गा रहा है। इस गाने को सुनकर ऐसा प्रतीत हो रहा है कि संजय खान खुद अपनी आवाज में गा रहे हैं। साथ ही साथ मजरूह सुल्तानपुरी के कलम की जादूगरी और चित्रगुप्त के संगीत के जादू ने इस गाने के खूबसूरती में और भी चार चांद लगा दिए हैं।

Just to let you know that since half a year or more, the transformation has taken place with me. It's so much that listening to Rafi Saahab and Lata Ji masterpieces automatically brings me tears.
Lata Ji's sweeter than honey creations like Mila Hai Kisika Jhoomka, O Sajna, Jogi Jab Se Tu Aaya Mere Dwaare, Jaa Re Jaa Re Udd Jaa Re Panchhi and almost all of Mala Sinha songs are extraordinarily effective to pay a lot of tearful respect to the Saraswati of Sangeet.
Similarly Rafi Saahab master creations like Woh Hum Na Thay, Subah Na Aayi, Tu Mere Saamne Hai, Phir Woh Bhooli Si Yaad Aayi Hai, Maine Rakha Hai Mohabbat, all songs of Dosti and all sad and emotional songs of Rafi Ji in 1950s and 1960s are instantly effective on me to remember and revere Rafi Saahab through pure tears.
I'm still very much attached to Asha Tai and Kishore Da, but Rafi Saahab and Lata Ji of 1950s and 1960s are unparalleled to anyone. Really feel that if in case all these four legends (Rafi Saahab-Lata Ji of 1950s and 1960s and Asha Tai-Kishore Da of 1970s) would have been in heavenly touch at the same time, then that decade would've been the best decade of music ever.
But change is always inevitable, as they say. Anyway, I'm extremely thankful to God for showering the blessings of 'THE VOICE OF GOD' RAFI SAAHAB AND 'SARASWATI OF MUSIC' LATA JI AND ALSO THE 'NIGHTINGALE OF ASIA' ASHA TAI AND 'THE FINEST UNTRAINED SINGER EVER AND MAN OF MANY MOODS' KISHORE DA !!! Our life would have been very much colorless and have had huge vacuum without the existence of these HEAVENLY ARTISTS.
One thing I feel - Had Lata Ji not been slow poisoned prior to 1963, she would have rendered many more masterpieces with much better effect due to her amazing breath hold time of 11 seconds, which got reduced to 9 seconds after slow poisoning incident. I'm sure that although Asha Tai is more versatile than Lata Ji, it's a fact that there's no one as melodious and no singer renders song with ZERO GASPING SOUND like that of Lata Ji Mangeshkar.
Thank you so much to the Almighty for giving me the opportunity to listen, experience and enrich my life through the divine powers of Rafi Saahab and Lata Ji.

Really feel that if in case all these four legends (Rafi Saahab-Lata Ji of 1950s and 1960s and Asha Tai-Kishore Da of 1970s) would have been in heavenly touch at the same time, then that decade would've been the best decade of music ever.
But change is always inevitable, as they say. Anyway, I'm extremely thankful to God for showering the blessings of 'THE VOICE OF GOD' RAFI SAAHAB AND 'SARASWATI OF MUSIC' LATA JI AND ALSO THE 'NIGHTINGALE OF ASIA' ASHA TAI AND 'THE FINEST UNTRAINED SINGER EVER AND MAN OF MANY MOODS' KISHORE DA !!! Our life would have been very much colorless and have had huge vacuum without the existence of these HEAVENLY ARTISTS.
One thing I feel - Had Lata Ji not been slow poisoned prior to 1963, she would have rendered many more masterpieces with much better effect due to her amazing breath hold time of 11 seconds, which got reduced to 9 seconds after slow poisoning incident. I'm sure that although Asha Tai is more versatile than Lata Ji, it's a fact that there's no one as melodious and no singer renders song with ZERO GASPING SOUND like that of Lata Ji Mangeshkar.

I agree that many actors prospered via Mohammad Rafi's voice, however I can see many emotions in Feroz Khan acting. I am not a big fan of Feroz khan, but I love to see his facial expression when he sings the song, just love it!

I never think it is a human voice. We fail to understand from where the voice is coming. This is just divine, soulful voice. This is not just a song, but a medicine a panacea for all ailments.
