USAID isn’t designed to help Americans directly-it’s a foreign aid agency focused on promoting U.S. interests abroad by stabilizing regions, fostering democracy, and expanding economic opportunities. A more stable world benefits the U.S. economically and geopolitically, reducing security threats and creating trade partners. So while no funds go directly to Americans, the long-term benefits still serve U.S. interests.
I've been in Iraq since 2015 assisting the Yezidis who were displaced by ISIS in 2014. According to the Biden administration, USAID sent $526 million in aid to Iraq for reconstruction and recovery for persons displaced by ISIS. In Shingal, Iraq, homeland to the displaced Yezidis, we wrote many proposals to USAID for reconstruction and recovery projects in Shingal. Chemonics, a beltway bandit in Washington DC, had the contract from USAID to fund projects in Iraq. The money was never spent in Shingal. We wonder where $526 million dollars disappeared to. I support dismantling USAID because it does not work. Like many others, I believe it is a CIA front so that CIA can be present in every country in the world.

I did work for the USDA in Kansas city around 2012-2013. I was fired because I pointed out the massive waste of taxpayers money. They had a room full of analytical instrumentation where 4 or 5 instruments out nearly a 100 were in use. Each instrument cost no less than $100 k at the time. They would buy ergonomic chairs for over $1500 each in 2011, imagine how much it would cost now? Some of those chairs were broken brand new in a deposit. People with some seniority sometimes did not show up. My immediate supervisor (I'll call Lynn and other supervisor whom I'll call Bell) would not show up half of the time. Lynn, would show up hang over to work and hardly ever work. Another example they had someone who literally left a furnace operating in a room over the weekend, the building did not catch on fire thanks to the local Fire Department. The person responsible for the fire received only a warning and as punishment this person was told to watch safety videos. There are plenty of wrongs that most of the public does not know but if an audit is made in just that USDA facility would be facing prison time for corruption. I could give many examples of wasted money, but I would have to write a very long opinion. I remember hearing something that really bothered me at the time, "who cares, is government money any ways".
There is substantial waste in government. But in shear dollar amount and ridiculousness, the Defense Department is the largest source. In fact, if you just cut out the fat there, you would save as much as if you went after all the others.
But what Trump and Musk are doing is more than going after waste. In fact, they are going about it so illegally that without doubt you'll eventually end up paying twice as much just in salaries virtually across the board.
What they're doing is actually dismantling the government. Note that they actually started with attacking law enforcement. Because they know their actions are illegal. So attacking the enforcers, leaving only a cowering skeleton crew at Justice is how they plan to get away with it. And they are going after communications. They figure if they can conceal the facts, you'll eat up any garbage they tell you. They're distracting you with deporting illegal citizens in a drag net that will ensnare legal residents and even citizens. There's even one story already if trying to deport a Native American. This is just what the creme de creme white society did with the south. Keep the poor whites down by making them complicit in victimizing African Americans.
Note that Trump promised, multiple times, on the campaign trail to bring down the price of groceries. One month after the election he said he couldn't. Groceries are up, not just eggs which are affected by avian flu. He promised the lowest energy prices. Gas prices are up and it looks like they will go higher. He said we would have the best economy. Two weeks into his term unemployment is up, planned investments by companies are down, and the stock market is reeling.
He lied and intimidated his way into office. His buddy Musk bought votes. He's an illegitimately elected President... Twice!
March on Washington. Let's see what he does when the Capitol police does nothing. Occupy the White House. Where's the FBI there. And chuck him out...out the door...out the window... Put him on a barge down the Potomac.

I am a Veteran and I worked in DoD as a contractor and now at the Department of Labor for over thirty years and let me tell you there is much wasteful spending in the Government. They need to target the Department of Defense because they failed the an audit ten times.

USAID's website is shut down. Congress passed the Foreign Assistance Act on September 4, 1961, which reorganized U.S. foreign assistance programs and mandated the creation of an agency to administer economic aid. I am not sure that any President can abolish the agency, or else it would have been done long ago.
The president has to go through congress to get a congressional mandate rescinded. But Trump is gonna flex every time he wants something done!

All departments, who have line item appropriations were created under federal law. Only Congress can abolish them by law. The president has 2 roles in this process, recommendations he puts out and his budget priorities that he sends to Congress and then Congress determines what they will agree to and how much they will fund. The founders set up Congress as the ultimate form of government for the US under the Constitution not a president for the very reasons we had a revolution against England. We don't live under the rule of one person/king.
