Just a throwaway about this song : when I was young, sometimes me and my parents would see their friends for the day and go home late. I would fall asleep on the way back, on the back seat of the car, while listening to the radio. And one day, this song passed on the Jazz Music station. I absolutely loved it, that and another song, but I never was able to find them back. I finally found it, eight years later. The second one was Shalom Aleichem XD
Mark Guiliana drumming is insane. More than gently disturbed. impossible rhythms. pure joy. Hard to say best album, because they are all good, but this is definitely a breakthrough album.
His drumming is absolutely astounding, his style is recognizable whichever artist he plays with, just cause he's so good, his quality and creativity level is unmatched.
It discussed historical jazz influences such Dave Brubeck's metre changes and "lowering the action" on the bass that was popularized by the Bill Evans Trio. The essay also went into detail about the chord changes, instrument interactions and the overall timbre in a schematic format. It would do the essay better justice to post it, but all my university is copyrighted and thus belongs to the university. :/
@@Bearpit222 that's what I also think. A kind of reminder that the Prophet had 11 wives in the same time. I already asked this question through the fan page of Avishai, I was waiting for a philosophical answer but obviously no answer since several months.
Not at all. Where do you get piazzolla from this? This is neither 4/4 swing rythmn, nor is it a tango-jazz fusion. Their compositional styles are way different.
Basso Continuo Im not sure if Piazzolla is an influence on this music, but actually he got pieces that are way similar, specially on how he develop the rhythmic subdivision
Love at first hearing. Reminds me of the Bad Plus. Do they have other pieces that are similar style to this. I'm going to get my ears on all their music I can find but would appreciate a pointer to more like this.
I felt that, the first time I heard this song and Avishai's trio ...I thought half joking, like god had come down to sit in on doing a bit of jazz on earth, and this was the group of people he decided to do that with👏🤗😂 I've never thought that before, nor am I religious. Nor am I refering to any religion in particular. It was just a passing observation🙂🌱🌳🕊
It's phrased as 3+3+3+2 with two bar phrases. It's really fast though, so it can be tricky to count, I don't imagine that any of them are consciously counting it, so much as just internalising the groove.
This song is an important part of my soul

First song of theirs I heard, and in love ever since

Love this tune, did my term paper for my jazz history class on this.
+Dannie Hill what did you write about regarding this song? Would love to know your analysis as one of my favorite bands and songs

can anyone who is steeped in Pythagorean philosophy explain how or why this time signature can be so powerful?

masterpiece !! but I am really curious to know the real meaning of the title (besides time signature) ???
11 wives .... it is a tribute to the Prophet Muhammad. There is a nicer version live done in New York i think but it's been removed.
@@Bearpit222 that's what I also think. A kind of reminder that the Prophet had 11 wives in the same time. I already asked this question through the fan page of Avishai, I was waiting for a philosophical answer but obviously no answer since several months.
I know that's an old comment but there is the same kind of reference to the time signature in Seven seas (+ in Take five but that's not Cohen)
I First heard of him in an album I have called Miami Latin Jazz Jam I was Amazed at his playing
What's the Name of the Album?
Le sens de la fête, Bacri...
fantastico
It's funny cause the time signature of this piece is 11ish (11/4 or 11/8 depending on how you see it). Thus the title
avavav1232 Exactly, that's how I found this song.
Per me 11/8......
Amazing
the film version is majestic
What's the difference between this and the seven seas? I can tell they're different but I can't see how...so exceptional artists!!!
jazz with a strong influence of Astor Piazzolla. it´s beatiful!

Maybe he meant Steak pizzaiola!

Oh my God..
I never though 11/8 could have so much rhythm
How did you knew it was 11/8?
