My older brother had this and Voltron when I was growing up. By the time I was old enough to know what it was and play with it, all of the removable pieces except for the tower turrets were already missing. Even still, it was one of my favorite toys. The little ghost box was always my favorite feature. It mesmerized me as a kid and I eventually got curious about how it worked and think I ended up breaking it. I used to watch the Voltron cartoon every day after school and it was one of my absolute favorite shows at the time. As for the castle itself, I used it as a base for everything from Star Wars to G I Joe to Jurassic park and of course, Voltron (though by that point I only had Hunk, Keith and 4 of the 5 lions left). Unfortunately as I got older me and my friends got a bit...rough with it and eventually ended up breaking the main frame, at which point mom tossed it out. It's always been one of my grail toys. Just recently I finally got my hands on one again and it's in very nice shape. It came (near) complete with everything except the escape rocket and one of the spare guns. Now I'm in the process of trying to obtain the pilots and get better, complete versions of the lions, as my inherited ones are all in awful shape. Having a hell of a time trying to find the pilots in good condition for an affordable price though. Nearly every one I see has yellowed and is missing a lot of paint and can't find one with a helmet for under $50. Speaking of those guns, I'm glad your video finally cleared up the mystery for me. I've been trying so hard to figure out how many spare guns are actually supposed to come with the castle. Obviously there's like 8 pegs for them in the castle. The one I bought came with the 4 guns in the turrets and one spare gun. The seller argued with me and said that's all it's supposed to come with, but every photo I've seen of a "complete" castle shows at least 4 to 6 spare guns. From photos, I thought they were supposed to be just wall decorations or like..lamps or power boxes or something. Didn't know they were actually spare guns for the turrets. That's a really odd design choice, like why do you need spare guns? And how were you meant to obtain more of them as a kid to fill in the empty peg holes? I guess I'll eventually have to try to pick up a few extras but I can't figure out if there's any rhyme or reason to which guns are meant to be put on the walls and in which sections they go, or if it's just whichever ones you want wherever you want.
I loved these toys as a kid. Think I was four-five and the family moved, and a box got lost. Think my dad bought me Ninja Turtles just cheer me up. lol
This is an awesome playset! I bought this and one of my buddies gave me a quick class on the 2 versions and sent me those pics so I did not buy the wrong parts. You can get this castle pretty easy just take some time to complete it!
I only ever had the 6" diecast one that had the projectile heads on the red and green lions. Now I have the same 84 classic Playmates set that you showed. That thing is awesome for retail toys and a great scale. I really want the Dairugger Vehicle version, but after having the Playmates set, its too small for that price. Still tempting though!

Peter cullen voiced by as Optimus prime/Orion pax?
Yes Peter Cullen voiced so many other things also. I need to make a video showcasing all of those but that may be a copyright mine field! Thanks
He also did eor from winnie the pooh
I still have mine! It was my big Christmas present in 1985. It needs a good cleaning, though, after 30 years in storage.
Would love to see you get it cleaned up and send in a picture for an upcoming vintage video! Would be a fun day of memories! Thanks
It’s definitely my holy grail and I didn’t know there were two versions!

Good video. You mentioned you did some whitening of some of the castle. I need to do the same thing with mine. Any tips on best ways to go about that?

Yes the Bandai Vehicle Voltron is great. The original is good also and is tall! Thanks
