I must have missed the part where evidence is given that Peter or any other gospel character actually lived here. Calling it the house of Peter seems to be as spurious as calling the boat the Jesus boat unless I have missed the part of the presentation where some evidence was given. And I was listening for it. Evidence is crucial, otherwise this is just another site identified during the fourth century without justification based on purr wishful thinking like the site of Jesus' supposed birth. I mean it's amazing and really good to have this two thousand year old site so well preserved but to link it to a character in a story I would want to see some actual evidence. Did they find pottery there with Peter's name on it or something?
Thanks for this query. I probably should have gone into this more in the video. I will pin this comment so others can see it easily. There is pretty good evidence from the first century, and shortly thereafter...it is already being remembered and used, plus lots of graffiti. Here is a very short summary, I put it in the Description and appreciate you raising this question. The more technical archaeological findings are available in academic sources. www.biblicalarchaeology.org/daily/biblical-sites-places/biblical-archaeology-sites/the-house-of-peter-the-home-of-jesus-in-capernaum/
Thank you so much professor Tabor, thank you for everything you do for us little folks out here and congratulations to you on these awesome new discoveries!! So cool!
I had bible study this morning and were doing exodus 29. We get to verse 19 and its about annointing and how to annoint. The right ear, the right hand, the right FOOT!!! I immediately thought of part 5 and the cave. I shared it with the chat. Im sure a few of them will be watching this one❤
Bringing up the question, “Who has the Father appointed to sit at the right and left hand of Jesus in his Kingdom, that it could not be either of the sons of Zebedee?”
Dr. Tabor, thank you so much for all of your work and for all that you teach us! It is very much appreciated! I picture Jesus having taken responsibility for the family after Joseph's death, and that when Jesus began his ministry near the age of thirty, one or more of his brothers were able to relieve him of this responsibility. In this context it is interesting to think of the wedding at Cana as a marriage of one of Jesus' sisters. That would be one less person in the family to feed, shelter and coathe. (I think....The bride would have gone to live with her husband and his family?) Maybe the family dynamics were all sorting out so that Jesus could devote full time to his mission, and ultimately his death.
for us who rely on these beautiful vids about religion, history, etc etc to help us fall asleep.. we would appreciate longer ones.. give us 1.5 hr at least 😃 side note, id have loved you for a professor
Dear Dr. Tabor, I have been watching your videos and reading your books for years and that video has to be the most mind-blowing of all of them. I'm now very interested in attending one of your tours. I'd love to see these places steeped in history with my own eyes.
Wow! What a fascinating birds-eye view into the life of Jesus. The photos are wonderful. It would be a very exciting place to visit. Thank you Dr. Tabor for bringing it to life:-) 🧚✨✨
Dr. Tabor, have you read the Gospel of the Kailedy or also known as The Gospel of the Illuminated Ones Having the Authority of the Nazorines? It is said to have been in the hands of Druids since the burning of the Glastonbury Library. It seems to have important details not found in the gospels we have in our bibles.. worth looking into.
I just want to add these places are all very easy and rewarding to visit, whatever your beliefs. Probably not today with active war raging, but as soon as things settle down, I’d recommend any one who is interested to go and see.
What should be noted here is . This is harmonization and people should appreciate that historians do this when they get mulitple sources discussing the same events but provide different details . Christians should not be critisized for doing a legitinate historical methodology
This is plausible to me. Like Jesus was a smart, charismatic person with good leadership skills. What were you going to do with that skill set in that time and place? Well, if you were deeply religious and read the books and saw the signs and was very hopeful..
Doc, if what I've been shown is true, Jerusalem city and Israel's villages were torn down and built over many times.... Especially with Hadrian and his people ruling over that area. So are the slides and areas that were talked about today and shown actually the original areas, or are they burried and renamed? Is what's being shown the newest discoveries, or just the top layer that was left by the succedeeing societies?
I am still wondering where Mark places the story of Jairus daughter Salome. And then he goes to Tyrus, even Sidon and has a talk to a woman about food. Yet somehow you can try to find the mid point between Sidon and Jerusalem. You'll find it on similar latitude to Cyrene. Wink wink.... But a great Disney land we have. dig dig....
As Always, this archaeological series is very interesting. More complete than ever. Strangely seem's as if I was familiar to this story, as it was told me in France from my youngest age, in our small community. Pure Christians from Jesus, we are the temple, so we act by universal simple out of time way, this is full of motherhood, and the poweful don't like it. Difference between straight structures and God day light, verbal Bible's Wisdom opposed to scribes, wanting to rule by power, and systems.
If James and John were the children of Mary Salome then he was their uncle and Zebedee was his brother in law. Was Jesus the working rabbi of Capernum?
Another hidden allegory with the wedding at cana on the 3rd day. The gospels are full of hidden truth written as allegory and metaphor. We are in the 3rd day now.
From what I have learned of the actual origins history of the Christianity cult conspiracy, there were the "cell centers" (in order of development): ALEXANDRIA, Egypt (ironically mentioned ONLY TWICE in the entire "New Testament" and ONLY in oblique references); CAESAREA MARITIMA, the Roman sub-provincial capital in Samaria and CYRENE in the province of Cyrenaica in Africa (NOT mentioned as such at all); ANTIOCH, the provincial capital of Syria and DAMASCUS in Arabia; CORINTHOS, the provincial capital of Greece. SIGNificantly, ROME is NOT described as one in the "Acts of the Apostles", nor is it mentioned in that text that Simon Peter (the alleged "FIRST pope" of the Church) ever visited it!! Do the History, NOT the MYTHstory.
fascinating but a lot of assumptions and wishful thinking. the house of Peter, that's taking it too far. i don't believe that you can extract a lot of history from mythical literature like the gospels. maybe there is history in there. there is no of knowing what or how much. where his disciples really fisherman or is that a mythical title invinted by the autor? because they where fishers for men for the christian cult? you can not be sure. we don't even know who wrote them or where or when the gospels where written. where they based on oral tradition? who knows. there is no proof for that. but i do like the speculating.

Something different about this one
The Tabor light is strongest when attached to the happenings of ol Jesus

Crowded house. Mary, Salome, Clopas, James, John, Peter, Andrew, their wives, Jesus and Mary Mags, Peter 's Mom
You mention "the Galilee". Is it a lake?
Jesus Christ
Dr Tabor, why in Mark 2:1 do you assume this is Peter's home and not Jesus' home?
Yeshu ben Pantera's home was in Sidon.
I am still wondering where Mark places the story of Jairus daughter Salome.
And then he goes to Tyrus, even Sidon and has a talk to a woman about food.

Am I the only person who thinks that there is something not quite right about the roman catholic church being there?
Not if the Romans supported early Chrestianity (Vespasian) as well as later Christianity (Constantine).
So could Nazareth then even be called the Sprout of Japha?
