    🌞🌻ABOUT THE CHANNEL🌻🌞
    Bored of the usual vanilla, ‘Pollyanna-esque’ allotment/gardening vlog formats that saturate RUclips, we decided to start our own, unique channel in 2023. Follow the adventures of our family as we navigate life on two allotment plots based in Devon in the UK. The Allotment Family Diary offers a light-hearted, realistic and informative look at the daily running of two large allotment plots. Chocked with dry-wit and lovingly edited, we film hours of footage each month to bring you weekly episodes that document life at our allotment plots, and sometimes outside of them.
    🌷🌻ABOUT THE ALLOTMENT FAMILY🌻🌷
    Tilly and Nick have maintained their plot for almost ten years now, and Tom (their son), Han (Tom's wife), and Flo (Tom and Han's daughter) acquired theirs in May 2023, with a plot extension in Feb 2024. Look forward to seeing Alfie (an elderly lurcher) and Tor (a young Romanian rescue dog) joining us in our diaries, as well as our 6 chickens (new additions to the Allotment Family), and various stray cats and other wildlife that call the allotment their home.

    Same happened to my tomato plants…l picked all the tomatoes, red and green… l diced, vacuumed and freeze the red tomatoes …l put some straw in a box put green tomatoes on straw and cover them with straw, left them in my shed in the dark , my green tomatoes got red within a week even the most green ones too.

    😢😢 we don’t have blight here well haven’t for years but my tomatoes were not ripening very well. Even with all our super hot sunny summer days. 😂 poor cucumber being held hostage. Yiu have had a lot more success than issues so all in all a fantastic year. Have a super weekend hope it’s sunny, Ali 🌦️🇨🇦

    Don’t be to down about the tomatoes. We all have failures each year. I’ve been growing for 30+ years and this year my onions were rubbish, the first time it has happened. Next year hopefully will be good. 😊😊

      @AllotmentFamilyDiary  5 дней назад +1

      Ty for watching. It’s a bit sad, but thankfully we did get a great crop even before the blight set in. Sorry to hear about your onions, fingers crossed for better results next year ☺️

    Sad about the tomatoes. You could slice the bad spot off of the green ones and fry them up. So delicious! I toss zucchini, green tomatoes, and onion all cut up into real butter like a stir fry. So good. My tomatoes plants are dealing with blight too. I trim everything back and take it to the chickens. They aren't near my garden. They really love the treat. Enjoyed the shadow in the sun that appeared to be wearing a cape! Lol

      @AllotmentFamilyDiary  7 дней назад +2

      That sounds really tasty! We’re going to make chutney with the green ones. Only wish I got to the plants early as was planning on cutting them back that day only to realise the blight beat me to it! Ty for watching ☺️

    So sorry about your tomatoes! My potatoes had blight this year and my allotment friend told me not to reuse the compost so I got rid of it. Don't know if that was the correct thing to do as I'm quite new to growing 🤔 I love all your blogs, you are so entertaining. And your 24 hour one was fantastic! 😊

    • @AllotmentFamilyDiary
      @AllotmentFamilyDiary  7 дней назад +1

      Tysm for watching! I’ve read mixed things about blight. Some say it will stay in the soil for over a year, others say frost will kill it off. I’ve also seen this: Blight cannot survive in soil or fully composted plant material. It over-winters in living plant material and is spread on the wind the following year. It’s a real mixed bag of information, but personally I am going to thoroughly dig over our soil and add fresh compost. If the blight returns early next year, I’ll know that was incorrect! ☺️

      @@AllotmentFamilyDiary I didn't throw my compost away. I reused it in a large stone bed and covered it with weed suppressant and pea gravel. It's too expensive just to throw away 😪 I'm sure yours will be ok 👍

    • @jimmyfaulkner5746
      @jimmyfaulkner5746 7 дней назад

      It's perfectly fine to reuse . Unless your growing in a sterile climate controlled grow room throwing away your growing medium is ridiculous. It's honestly retarded to think you need to burn blight😂😂😂 the bloke even said its airborne, so even if you torched your whole plot it's just gonna blow back in as soon as the next breeze wofts by 😂 think about it

    Make green tomato pickle ... and next time put a copper wire in the earth ,thread it thru the stalk then bend it upwards 4 to 6 " fine wire

    • @AllotmentFamilyDiary
      @AllotmentFamilyDiary  5 дней назад +1

      Tilly is already eyeing up the green toms for chutney! I have heard of the copper wire method with mixed results, but may experiment with that next year. Ty for the tip and for watching ☺️
