Hey O, maybe make a video of top 10 or 20 art books that u recommend. I know there are tons out there, probably multiples of some artists like Jim Lee. Would be cool to get ur take. Like not just cool for ur collection but also as an awesome table book.
I don't because it would actually be a downgrade. I have the first few SSOC books which are roughly comic size, although I forgot what the format was called, as well as the Iron Fist Deadly Hands of Kung Fu book and the reduced sized B&W art looks like crap IMO.
Looks like the inner book cover was Kubert's pencil art (pre-Hildebrandt) then colored like 1602, i.e. pencils-to-color. I hope they'll include that spread if (when?) they decide to publish future Wolverine omnis.
Before watching this excellent preview, I was interested in the Conan volume. Now, I'm definitely buying both of these lovely books. Your flipping through the Kubert book won me over. I enjoy and appreciate these previews, as most of my book purchases are over the internet. Currently, Marvel has three types of books on its artists - these coffee table books, the oversized poster/print/portfolio books and the very oversized books. All are consistently awesome! Marvel's efforts are always appreciated by me, especially when compared to Diminishing Creations.
I’ve only been getting the SSOC Omnis not the Marvel Years. Love the naked inks, subject matter and art so much. Man those Adam Kubert images clearly show how the entire feeling changes from pencils to fully inked and colored. I love the pencils only images so much it really gives a new deeper and more sensitive feeling to those images ingrained in my memory. I would love a full hardcover story in just pencils like DC s unwrapped with Adam Kubert. Some day...
As always great work Omar. I had already ordered the Conan one a month ago, but I will be ordering the Kubert one now as well. That Conan art, holy crap. Cant wait to get them now.
Enjoyed the Art of Conan, which I didn't think I would. Love the art books, and will be getting the Savage Sword one. Will check out the Adam Kubert one, it is a possible but too many books on pre-order. Wish it had more of the original inked pages than just reprinting the actual cover as I have many of the covers via the omni or via the originals
Yeeeeeeeah, I already spend enough money on the Savage Sword of Conan Omnis as it is. I don't need (can't afford) an art-book on top of that. Even if it will have material that the Omnis won't reach for several years...
I haven't collected art books before, and while The Art of Conan didn't speak to me for some reason, The Art of Savage Sword does. Somehow, I thought it would have collected just the 235 covers, and I would have been happy with that, but this looks nice. May be my 1st Art Book.
It's funny that John Buscema didn't like Ernie Chan's inks because as a kid that was easily my favourite combo - I can see from an older perspective that a rougher approach gives a more brooding atmosphere though
Algorithm gang! Holy moly these books look beautiful. Why must you tease me with this I cannot obtain?! lol Appreciate the content as always, my man. :)
That Andy Kubert artbook looks really good, I might purchase it! Hey Omar do you know if there are plans to make a Joe Madureira artbook??! They already made Humberto Ramos, Chris Bachalo and Scott Campbell ( Joe is the only one missing there ☹️ )
Hey, Omar, I'm sure you will do an overview but could you (or anyone familiar for that matter) clue me in on the upcoming Conan by Busiek Omnibus? SO from what I understand it has contents from the Dark Horse series (which I have not read) that were collected in the first Colossal Conan (which I do not own). But it's missing a lot of the issues, since it's an author omni I guess, including the last 3 of that run. How detrimental is that? I know nothing about DH's Conan except that people loved it, so I wanted to get this omnibus but if they just cut off stuff unresolved that would be a bummer.
Thanks for your work Omar. I'm trying to get most of the art books, skipping only when a book is outside of my scope of interest (which, till today, was the Conan one,...but it can change in the future cause this vid would make me buy it if that was not for the fact that my January budget is already in shambles), or I feel negative or indifferent (in the aesthetic sense) towards the artist/art. Btw, any hints at new official suiting up dates? :)
Are there 2 different Uncanny Omar's?! The one who does the voice over with the hands and the one who appears on camera? Because they do NOT sound alike.
"There's no way to color that and make it look just as good." Dave Stewart, Dean White, Alex Ross, Alex Sinclair, Richard Isanove, and Matt Wilson would collectively tell you, "hold my beer."
@@NearMintCondition Even the reprinted Savage issues that appear in CTB that got recolored look way better than b & w, and that's 70s coloring technology. It could definitely be done, I just worry Marvel won't want to pay for it since the books are selling anyway without it.
@@NearMintCondition I was referring more to Red Nails from the MT Edition and Secret of Skull River from CTB #64. Red Nails especially looks great. BWS colored it himself. That being said, I still prefer Hour of the Dragon with color than without. But my whole point is to see a modern coloring for all the Savage issues. They would look awesome. And for those who prefer the original look, those obviously would still exist too.
Ok i will be buying both. Conan for me, Kubert for my niece.
Adam kubert did the best Ghost Rider art of all the time.... The First 10 numbers of "Spirit of Vengeance" are pure gold
Love hearing Omar talk about things he likes. Always somewhat education and filled with intensity lol
My man!

Love the idea of a Best Art books video!
Man, I hope Savage Sword of Conan ends up in Epic Collections

That are of Savage Sword of Conan looks stunning. A must have for fans!
It's a beautiful book.
I'll be buying both. The Conan for me, Kubert for Rob W's niece. She REALLY loves Kubert.
Shes a bright little lady.
Looks like the inner book cover was Kubert's pencil art (pre-Hildebrandt) then colored like 1602, i.e. pencils-to-color. I hope they'll include that spread if (when?) they decide to publish future Wolverine omnis.

I love that Adam Kubert art book, definitely gonna have to pick that up...thanks for the thorough review
Any time!

It wasn't until I read this that I thought...hey Adam Kubert would kick ass on Conan!
@@NearMintCondition 100% Agree. Man those 2worlds colliding would work perfectly!
The Kubert book is gorgeous!
It is a great book.

Brother hella content hey geeking out on that splash page just a little bit
Very good art book going to check them out , we
need the top 10 art books
I wish they release a book with all the SSOC covers along with other REH books. Well anyways, both of these books are on my must buy list.
Covers would be so cool.
These "Art of" book series have been great, love previous ones
They really are.
Isn't Marvel already putting out Savage Sword of Conan in Omnibus format? You've had videos showing them off.

I love his just inked pages.
Great books, I think I must get Conan at least. As for Adam Kubert, I most like his Hulk work
His Hulk is awesome.
ANYTHING Conan gets a thumbs up! Glory to CROM!
My man.
Thumbs up for ssoc.

In about a month.

What I want is a Conan the Barbarian encyclopedia from Marvel. Do you think there will be an art book for Dark Horse era Conan the Barbarian?
Thanks that was great
Any news on war of the realms omnibus? I haven't seen it go up on cheap graphic novels or instocktrades.

Lol the distinguished competition

Oh yeah!
I loved watching you go through your own history of these books.
Wicked good times
Wonderful ! I want and need both of them !!!
Super
What's the footprint size on these?
I'm guessing it's the same size as the Conan the Barbarian one since this book is a companion piece.
Are they OHC?
Conan is Total Drool
I wasn't impressed with the Marvel Art of Conan the Barbarian book. Too much wasted white space. So I returned it. This looks too good to miss though.
Very cool you can return books. I can't do that unless it is still wrapped.
@@Chandasouk Amazon prime allows it.

I’d like to see them try. Seriously, this is different then say the Steve O. Colors on Akira. But I would love to see specially Isanove try.

I beg to differ. Look at the colors in Hour of the Dragon. It just doesn’t look right.
