beautiful video as usual. maybe you can make a video about your 'guilty pleasure' books you know silly books that are actually fun and made you feel good but aren't deep or anything. sometimes i need these they help me go through a lot of hard times honestly

I just read the cherry on top of ridiculous smilies where the protagonist says that their (the protagonist and his wife's) love is as dirty as a gas station bathroom lol. You have to admit it's hard to beat that one.
On a serious note, I can feel how truly heartfelt your lovely words were at the end and they're very much appreciated. Your presence is really appreciated.

the worst book i read last year was a little life. i finished it in april and STILL whenever i think about it i get angry and filled with so much hatred ugh it was just awful 😭

hi emmie! Swedish person here :) Sweden is indeed called Sverige but i’m pretty sure Norway is called Norge. Nynorsk and bokmål are indeed an important factor but it refers to the language :) (i just thought you’d like to know, but i basically only know what 4 countries call themselves in their native tongue and it was cool hearing someone know these things. All loveeee)

I didn't have a bad reading year by any means - found many five stars.
HOWEVER, I read 'The Pact' by Sharon Bolton, and oh my god. It was terrible, it was so badly written it was comedic. The quote, "She was beautiful, even though she was in her mid-forties" haunts me.
I will always adore you! You make my life brighter and full of good things. You deserve all of the great things 2025 has for you!
I spent the whole year waiting just to watch you talk about books you despise while being slightly drunk (lol). I don't know about you but I think that's love ahaha. My worst book of 2024 was Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow and an honorary mention is Babel, it took me 3-4 months to finish (I read 38 other books parallel during that time).

I completely agree about books coming with instructions or caveats! The book should be able to stand on its own. If the story is only good or only makes sense with all these rules, it probably isn't that good.
I think we watch your channel for your wit, forthrightness and self-sacrifice in reading books in order to save us from having to do so! I reckon I can speak for us all in saying a heartfel ‘thank you’.

Happy new year Emma. i've read 82 books in 2024 and my worst read was Lady Chatterley's lover (the first versions, because there's 3 and this one is the less spicy) there is no chemistry between the characters and the heroine seems to be on autopilot during the whole book- hated it

I read The Selection and the sequel series with my friends when I was in high school (like 10 years ago) and I also hated America's daughter, she was insufferable. But I had some friends that loved her "independence"

a book which was surprisingly dissapointing for me this year was Before the Coffee Gets Cold. I think all the hype around it really built up my expectations for this book which I personally felt quite repetitive and dry at times. I'm really sad that I didn't like it as much as I thought I would

Worst book - or most underwhelming book of the year for me would definitely be Murder on the Orient Express. Tell me why they dragged on the murder reveal for so long only to come up with the worst possible ending???
My used copy is currently in a pile waiting to get returned to the thrift store because I was thoroughly disappointed, especially since it's regarded as a 'classic'. I never want to see it again LOL.
Second would be Queen of Nothing... Overhyped and underwhelming, especially since I had given The Wicked King 5 stars. Characters had an entire character transplant and everything was rushed!!!
Let's hope this year the books we read don't give us a headache 😆

I listened to the Christmas murder game the year it came out while I was at work, cleaning a school. I am surprised none of the teachers ever came to ask me what is wrong when I would comment out loud about whatever it was at the time. But basically, I was suspicious of Tom the moment he was introduced, and I kept screaming internally and externally to the protagonist the whole time since then. I was really contemplating my life choices up to that point. I am glad it is not just me who hates the book.

Speaking of Antarctica-set books (but, like not awful ones) - Charlotte McConaghy has a new book coming out in March set there (Wild Dark Shore) - it's my most anticipated read of the year!! So, maybe give that one a try to get over Antarctica Station.

Hi Emma, Swiss girl here ☺ The book that disappointed me the most in 2024 was Murakami's "The City and its uncertain Wall", it was just soo repetitive and nothing happened, none of the people caught my interest - I really wanted to like it because its premise sounded so good, but then it was such a bummer that I didn't even finish it 🥲 I know you're a huge Murakami fan - would love to hear your take on this book! Please make me change my mind!

As someone with face blindness, I really like seeing it portrayed well in media. Despite a surprisingly high amount of people apparently having it (according to statistics I've checked in the past), it's a condition most people don't know about. As such, it's a bloody shame that nothing was done with it in the book you mentioned, because it could be especially interesting in, oh I dunno, A MURDER MYSTERY.
Also I nearly died at the line about yeast, like WTH was that. XD
didn't read much last year. I only read 8 books even though I read 25 the previous year! I started reading my first book of the year, A Language of Dragons but I've been too sick to read at all this week. I'm mad because this seems to be a trend for me in the new year when I'm hyped to start my fresh year of reading.
I'm also excited for September because I'm getting a dog that I'm hoping might be able to be trained to help with Disability stuff. After that, I'm going to have little time for the next 18 months because pup needs effort and time!
my worst book was „This is how you loose the time war“. It showed me how much I dislike romance-centred stories without an actual plot.

Love a good rant! The Age of Magic was one of my lowest rated too, just an absolute void of a book. My worst book was Quicksilver by Callie Hart, it was a book club pick and I lasted until the love interest arrived and he was so vile and repellant I DNFd. If it had been short I might have pushed through, but it was 600 plus pages. Life is too short. 😅
My worst book of the year was either “You’re Invited” or “First Lie Wins”. Also, I DNF “Every Time I Go on Vacation Someone Dies” 😅

Dang The Selection was one of my very first one star reviews. It was aggressively bad and I read 3 of the books because I was dedicated to completing them 🤣 happy to see it here.

Most of my reads were so good and varied this year! But my worst had to be "It Happened One Summer" by Tessa Bailey🥴 I could not get into it and the romance made me cringgeeee. I literally forgot about it until I went through my Goodreads now. Maybe listening to a spicy romance through audiobook is not the best choice.......haha
