  • Monday sees the launch of a new six-month pilot programme trialling a four-day working week with 70 UK firms, involving more than 3,000 employees across 30 sectors including The Royal Society of Biology, a brewing company and fish and chip shop. Joe Ryle, Campaign Director for the 4 Day Week campaign, is calling for a 32-hour working week with no loss of pay. He says numerous studies show productivity increased when employees worked shorter hours. But is it unreasonable to expect to be paid for a five day working week and only work four days?

Can't believe no comments. Look when I started work in the early 70s Sundays were a no no & Wednesdays were half day closing with no working bank holidays except for emergency services. Today your lucky to not do a 5 day week often you have to cover some weekends plus bank holidays too which were originally designed to make sure you took the time off. But greed made employers put it in contracts & government allowed it to happen, therefore we are not gaining time off work but it has increased. Not to mention wages today haven't risen in line with inflation, making us poorer. Immigration has led to lower wages due to a larger work force available to accept today's work structures.
