Having a figurative stranglehold on the family film market, Pixar has been dominating the scene, casting a spell over children and adults alike for decades. Yet, there is perhaps no other Pixar film that speaks to the importance of family as much as Coco does, which was only released in 2017. Set in Mexico, the movie tells a deeply moving story about a young boy who seeks to connect with his family, and the movie will not only get you thinking about the meaning of family, but also of life and death. Also I like... ugly cried through the entire ending of the movie, that was rough to get through in all the best ways. I’m Jacob with Channel Frederator and here are 107 facts about Coco.

In Mexico they stopped playing Olaf's Frozen Adventure since it was a 22 minute special. Dang bro.

In the Spanish version of the movie, the characters who are vanishing from being "forgotten" in the rundown part of the Land of the Dead speak with a distinct Northern accent. This is a commentary on how Mexicans from the North are more removed from the traditions of South, where Dia de Los Muertos is still actively celebrated.
Also, the whole idea of disappearing after death is based on the story Metamorphosis, The Three Deaths.
The first is when the body ceases to function.The second is when the body is consigned to the grave. The third, is when your name is spoken for the last time.

I remember watching this film in theaters and thinking 2 things: 1) Olaf's Frozen Adventure sure was a great tone-setter (not) for it, 2) This is Pixar's most beautiful, honest, and culturally conscious film and I am here for it.
It certainly doesn't help that this decision can easily be seen as stemming from a train of thought along the lines of "Nobody's gonna want to see an original movie about Mexicans celebrating a Latin American holiday, so let's entice people with a franchise special about white Europeans celebrating Christmas! It's genius!".
I hated Olaf frozen adventure I was annoyed because I came to see coco and the culture not a dumb snowman that in all fairness seem to be pointless in my opinion to frozen
2017 was just one of those years where everything that came out was great. from video games like breath of the wild to cuphead to movies like coco to lego batman. or shows like steven universe to ok ko. it was a great year

A masterpiece of a movie, Coco is. Once again, it's nice to hear you, Jake. You, as well as some pretty nicely improvised comedic timing that you've delivered in this video, which had me smiling throughout. It's been roughly 4 years or more since you last covered this movie on the channel, in a 7 facts video.
This is tied with Monsters, Inc. as my favorite Pixar movie. Monsters, Inc. was the first one that touched me and Coco was the one that touched me the most. I will always prefer movies like this over ones like Field of Dreams or Dead Poets Society

My favorite pixar movie by far, and one of my favorite movies on general.
I think people forget that Mexico isn't a 100% homogeneous society. There are pockets of German descendants, Japanese descendants, and others. So to have a scene with the Italian composer they didn't necessarily have to even dress him in typical Mexican costume. He could have been dressed the way any band leader might be dressed because there is a good chance there are a few Italian-mexican musicians in Mexico
As a mexican, I loved the Jacob's pronunciation of spanish words. Good stuff.

Are you sure that was Japan that censored Coco due to death? While it's true that in Japanese, death and 4 are homophones, that's true for many other East Asian languages too, including Chinese. Chinese censors don't like depictions of the dead from what I hear. I've seen Japanese movies and anime that show death and ghosts, so that doesn't make sense for Japan to censor Coco.

As a Mexican-American I really wanna touch on 2 specific facts, like, opinion wise.
The first is how, while it makes sense WHY they changed the premise of the movie I would have LOVED a movie of a Mexican American mid getting in touch with his culture! While I doubt it'll happen now I hope they recycle that idea.
Second, wow is it appropriate to have Pixar piñatas in a Mexican market! It's basically an expectation to see Pixar and Disney princess characters as piñatas!

Be like Adrian , Hollywood , especially Disney has a terrible track record when it comes to representing minorities.. often it does becoming from host of people from outside of the culture trying to push there interpretations from a perspective outside of the culture … Adrian as someone lives and breathes being Latino could and did offer a more complete and credible experience.. there are hundreds upon hundreds of companies out there and you can make a great living without the mouse… with respect and understanding and not knowing the background of the narrator.. I would kindly say keep your opinions to yourself in the case of a minority speaking up and offering insight in an attempt to get better representation of his or her culture… unfortunate reality we live in… where would we be if people of color didn’t rock the boat and try to change the way they are represented
