Spot on. I test rode a Scram 411 and an Interceptor (alongside a big Honda). I hated the Scram for the first hundred yards and nearly turned back. But after 20 miles, I bought one as well as an Interceptor. Both bikes are superb. Close call, but the Scram is the best of the two. The one thing all 411 owners say is that it needs a few ore BHP - and here it is. People need to ride a Scram or Himalayan 440 and enjoy riding again. Getting people to try them is the trick.
The new Scram 440 version will also be offered with a tubless tire variant using alloy wheels, would consider swapping my Scram 411 just on that advantage alone . Hope it comes to the states !
My problem is they keeping building bikes I want! I'm out of garage space. I loved the Meteor 350...so I bought one, I loved the 350 Classic...so I bought one. What next, a better Scram now? At an affordable price? They're showing no mercy. I may have to talk to the neighbor about leasing more garage space. The RE management are knocking it out of the park. They are building motorcycles and are not worried about the company's stock price, i.e. HD... With what they are accomplishing it's amazing. I love my two REs.
Thats a great idea. I mentioned in your KTM video that they were the only company making low tech sensible bikes. Sure, of course they're not perfect. But every bike i have owned has a compromise. From an unbiased Honda owner in New Zealand. Keep up the good content mate.
Looking forward to the 440 and would love to get a test ride when they arrive, it will be interesting to know whether the current cam upgrade kit for the 411’s will fit straight into the 440 or whether a new cam will have to be developed.
I have been waiting for this bike for over a year, although I don't have my full motorbike licence yet, but hopefully I will by the time this is released.
Royal Enfield are on a never ending roll ! I would still love to see them introduce a bike for the USA that cost $9000 and would be at least 900 cc. I bet you they could do a lot of bike for that price range.
We rode over to Sykes Harley Davidson a great dealer,we were riding royal Enfield's which they said they are about to stock as a dealer great news more HD dealers should look in this direction.
Not a great idea. They will not stock them, just hold the dealer spot so someone else cannot have it. The RE bikes slow harley sales. The HD dealer here sells RE and that's how they do it. Sad way to operate a business.
Sounds like a solid bike. That said after riding a 411 Scram, I feel the suspension needs sorting. Considering the long travel, the compliance isn't correct, it's too stiff. Won't take a lot of work, just some fine tuning.
For Gods sake , if they are doing a revamp of the excellent but underpowered 411 (which I love BTW) then at least give the thing a better cam (not like the profile hasn't already been developed..DUH..) and give it 30 BHP like we all want. If all it gains is 1 BHP then frankly better to snap up one of the 411s being put out at £3600. Whatever the cost differential is to the 440 you can fit a cam and a pipe and get the 30 BHP.
I agree... As they bored out the engine this engine has a larger bore than the one in the Harley Davidson 440 which has 27 bhp it is a bit weak that this new enfield engine only gets 25.4 hp from a shorter stroke than the harley engine. They should have given something like 28bhp... Should be fairly easy to get 2.5 more horses out of the 443cc air cooled single..
The Scram 411 has 24.3 bhp so with large bore it's going to be closer to 30bhp and if You desire to put cam, full pipe, filter etc it will be north of 30bhp
@@alternativeperception6949 Quite and as you say probably comfortably north of 30. But heck, why don't they just bloody do it as standard, I mean my 1996 XR400 produced 34 BHP.
I rather fancy this new little scrambler! As a basic bike it looks great and may make a great little cafe racer, or urban commuter bike. Thanks for the heads up, Alf. We have two dealerships that carry RE in Minnesota; I'm actually going to take a look into it... MSRP looks like $5,092 more or less. marcus
I test rode the original scram and liked it. if I didnt have a 2012 husky terra, I'd buy the original . local dealers selling them in mpls mn usa for less than $4,000 usd. fantastic deal on a sweet little bike
I looking for a cheap bike to tour Europe next year, hopefully this'll depress 411 prices even further. 😁 I saw a 3k miler go for £2.4k and that price (ish) also gets a similar Himalayan with luggage!
Honda is embracing back to the basics thinking with the GB350. I hope they sell a lot of these machines in Western markets. One look has me thinking about how much easier valve checks and such could be. Air cooled has it's advantages.
Suzuki recently released the new DRZ4S and SM and they did a similar thing they did what they had to in order to try and keep the price down as much as possible but they got slammed for it. If like Harley the cost of the bike is ridiculous and nobody actually can afford one then it’s a lot of paper weight to have sitting around on the dealership floor
Big pat on the back for whoever at Royal Enfield that listens to what is said by customers . Honda may I recommend You listen that customers don't enjoy getting seasick on pogo suspension CRF's
Yes, the Japanese for some reason seem to ignore customer feedback, I wonder if the Coy execs are so arrogant that they are not going to be told. For example, customers love the DRZ400 (and the variants) for enduro/offroad exploring trails but the suspension sucks and so does highway travelling. The coy could have tweaked these shortcomings over the years by stiffening up the springs and bumping up the engine capacity to pump up the power a little. But no. So quite a number have bought a 450MT or the 450 Himi, still keeping their old lovable DRZ. Perhaps Suzuki could have got those sales if they had listened to customers who want a better DRZ (with more power/better suspension) but still in a lighter dual sport format instead of adv bike format. Same with the others, just using the DRZ as an example. I'm not even going to mention HD here, we all know the situation - just not interested in the mass market, no lesson learnt from Mercedes which saw the light many years ago that selling predominately to the high-end market wasn't going to cut it and started offering the more affordable C-Class (noting the C-Class is not made in Germany). The trick with the C-Class (unlike what HD does) is that to the untrained eye, the outside of the car just looks like the more expensive models of the same shape but at a substantial price difference putting the C-Class in the affordable range for many folks.
I will buy blue, white and red variant. It is indestructible. I hate new technology. Hate liquid cooled engines. Less technology, less things to break. Simple.
yessir, they are replacing the 650s with the 750s but still offering a low compression ratio, which are expected to make around 55 hp. The interceptor, continental gt, and himalayan are expected to be the first to get the new 750 mill. They are immediately identifiable with a shift to dual disc brakes at the front. and with redesigned front and rear ends. Along with that, though a regrettable change, the classic analogue dials are seemingly being replaced by the Tripper dash (The TFT screen which debuted with the Himalayan 450). I'm not aware if this will be an optional upgrade (i'd prefer this approach), or if this would be a complete shift to TFT. Time will tell.
@@kruzerblade4740 Interesting. I have considered the 750 to be just a rumor. After all - the 650 bikes seem to be well received. I am wondering whether this displacement upgrade will not just bring more cost and weight. On the other hand - it will get probably more competitive and for those of us looking to buy a bike next year probably some good prices on the 650 models :)
@@matusknivesa 750 with similar weight would be good, also I guess there will be room for performance upgrades as well but all things considered we will have to wait for how the new engine would be. I have seen a Himalaya with a 750 engine, that excites me the most.
It's aimed developing countries only, and at it's real price point 2500 USD, it makes a lot of sense. On western markets for 5000, no sense, that's why it doesn't go there.

This 440 should replace the old scram 411.
I really like the Scram, so glad it's been updated. It's going to be my next bike. No more Harleys for me 😁
More than happy with the Scram 411. Got a guerrilla 450, so have best of both worlds.

The reason I'm buying the Scram and not the new Himalayan 450 is the symplicity of the old version: Cheaper and easy to maintain.
