Jeremy Diesel It's his story, a reflection of his life journey. He introspects heavily but simultaneously he is providing realistic solutions and he is working his way towards embracing them. I like this album and I wish Mac Miller well.....He appears to have broken free of the darkness and is steadfastly swimming towards the light.
i mean he did release this album on the same day astroworld came out. i didn't even know this album came out today until after i listened to astroworld.
He did a lot more turn up songs around 2010 and he got attention. He was really big but it's cool to me how he matured as an artist and a person and you can see that if you look at the lyrical content of songs like best day ever and party on fifth Ave vs. the content of songs on this album.
Bro.. "people would call it an instant classic" This album is not for everyone. It's so personal that really only two audiences would call this an "instant classic" 1. Mac fans who relate to his music and feel his music. 2. Other people who can just relate to what he is going through. This album is not going to be blasted on radio stations or shoved in people's face at the Grammy's, and that's alright. As long as it is a classic in our hearts and his, I'm good.

Mac made this album for himself, no one else. Good AM was a wake up call to Mac and a way to tell his fans hes okay after his worrysome but amazing Faces mixtape. This album is an album where Mac has started to realize how to deal with his problems. Realizing that in order to prevent yourself from drowning you need to swim, Mac allows us to enter into his mind on his realization that things may not be great, but as long as you keep trying there is hope. The album has no features because this album is a self healing project. The sound, production, and tone of Macs voice is quite soothing too. Highly recommend listening to this during period of high anxiety. I promise it will ease it. Love you Mac ❤️
Mac was known for using features and helping out other artists, look back on his other albums and mixtapes and the amount of features is insane. I think for swimming, it meant something else to him and it was a message that he was okay- and he wanted to be the sole voice of that.
I remember when this album came out the same time as ASTROWORLD and it was completely overshadowed. This was by far Mac’s best album and he did it by HIMSELF. It helped me get through some of my darkest times in high school and I’m so grateful for what he did for others that were struggling by releasing an album that didn’t dwell in suffering but moving on while reflecting on how to handle the past in a good way. We Love You Mac.
I remember the first time listening to swimming. Mac instantly became one of my favourites after, before swimming I never gave him a chance. Then I went back through his discography and realize I was missing out. Of course a month after Mac’s music takes over my life he passes. Still can’t believe it, he was so talented. I wish I didn’t sleep on him for so many years.
With an official Faces release coming up this also popped up. Swimming was so incredible good. New fans are gonna be shocked. I'm happy and sad at the same time. Keep floating Mac.💔
This Album came out the same day as Astroworld and me being the Travis Scott fan I am, I ignored this album until the day Macs death came. I used to listen to Mac a lot, but kind of stopped following him, there was nothing wrong with him i just forgot about him pretty much, but i was shocked when his untimely death came so I figured his album deserved a listen. I love this album so much it has helped me through so much and I regret not listening to it upon release. Rest In Peace Mac❤️
This album has soo much meaning after his death. After his death I came back and listened to the album and it had a more heavier meaning ya feel me. Rip Mac
I’m just here to understand where he was at before he went. How SELF care is the mission he’s taking on , ALONE, and he has to before the darkness overtakes him. How he saw some light in the up-taking, he ALONE, is heard saying things that gave , US, hope he could get through his mission but now its clear that for him , him ALONE, it was an incredible undertaking. And Today 09/972018 it is clear that he should have been with US, instead of leaving US, US-ALONE, because Mac Miller was taken. His mission is now ours and anyone who needs this level of self care, needs US, to remind them that, they ALONE, doesn’t mean to take care by ones self. They need direct help and support, Reaching out to any of US. Maybe That’s how instead losing someone, We take back a young soul and let them retake control of the life they, ALONE, have shared with US and we should all be in thanks to Mac Miller for his music is the gift we can all take.
This is his best album. The musical and lyrical concept is strong, ties the songs together perfectly, and the production is very Pink Floydian to my ears. Very powerful album, much more than a rap album. By the time the last track kicks in with that bittersweet synthesizer (that sounds like it's going further and further down underwater like that little guy in the music video for Come Back to Earth), his whole life and career is kind of summed up and you realize how true of an artist he really was. Swimming 10/10.
Perfecto sound like that one kid cudi song “is there any love” with wale. It doesn’t sound like it......but like...idk the drums?? Or the beat?? On it has the exact same sound. Idk you’d have to go listen to that song
man, people really forget that music is the manifestation of an artists thoughts and creations. As the years go by artists have lost that touch, Mac Miller really brought it out in Swimming and in Circles and we all just let Swimming fly by us
I personally loved the album. I thought it was pretty well produced and thematically set up. No crazy lyrics, but definitely powerful lyrics with a deep message. But, I definitely get where you’re coming from as far as his vocals and drawn outness. Great review. P.S. - Mac Miller = The White J. Cole 😂
Car Wash I was about to have a long ass comment attacking the j.Cole comparison but by the time I finished I think you might be close although Cole is maybe a bit sharper and has a better rap voice.
Isaiah Mc Intosh Isaiah Mc Intosh Oh I agree fasho. Cole is easily the superior rapper/artist, but they have a very similar aesthetic. They’ve also had a fairly similar progression in the game minus Mac not being as big of a star.
Car Wash well I really don't know Mac's history but the sound is fundamentally similar once Cole isn't on his serious rapping mode which comes up less and less frequently in recent releases.
Absolutely get the point of personal preference and kinda not liking the onlyMac sound on the album, but as for me it is fucking amazing, his vocals and braveness in experiments with different sounding, using his own voice as an instrument itself, things that he was talking about, influencing people to grow stronger with him .. sheeesh man, beautiful, love this work, great album RIP Mac, love ya
This album is so incredible start to finish. Probably my favorite hip hop album of 2018 tbh, but I'm the same person who thought Flower Boy was a better album than DAMN in 2017 so whatever. In an industry where everyone is just trying to do the same shit, the jazz rap vibe really resonates with me due to it's unique sound

Mac was known for using features and helping out other artists, look back on his other albums and mixtapes and the amount of features is insane. I think for swimming, it meant something else to him and it was a message that he was okay- and he wanted to be the sole voice of that.
"Oh my god" "this is great" "i love his perspective" "dope track" "love his delivery".... *6/10*
Crow - exactly wtf, this is his MBDTF review
8/10 at least
So I guess "Stay Dangerous" is next?
Make it Splash Shawn
pureawsomeness424 nah he don’t review garbage

pureawsomeness424 Hell night
Spoodermans 17 Stay Dangerous hard asf and better than this shit
Fuck with yg but that shit was wackk
I remember when this album came out the same time as ASTROWORLD and it was completely overshadowed. This was by far Mac’s best album and he did it by HIMSELF. It helped me get through some of my darkest times in high school and I’m so grateful for what he did for others that were struggling by releasing an album that didn’t dwell in suffering but moving on while reflecting on how to handle the past in a good way. We Love You Mac.
Thank you for talking through this one. I needed this, heavily...
I remember the first time listening to swimming. Mac instantly became one of my favourites after, before swimming I never gave him a chance. Then I went back through his discography and realize I was missing out. Of course a month after Mac’s music takes over my life he passes. Still can’t believe it, he was so talented. I wish I didn’t sleep on him for so many years.
me too just glad that I at least listened to swimming before he passed
goddamn shawn is so smart with these songs and the meaning its so impressive
also sorry just rewatching this reaction before circles drops
With an official Faces release coming up this also popped up. Swimming was so incredible good. New fans are gonna be shocked.
I'm happy and sad at the same time.
Keep floating Mac.💔
RIP Mac. I wished I didn’t stop listening after I left high school. I wish I wasn’t one of those who are now listening after you’re gone.
Rip Mac
Song produced by cole is fire
Which one
fazed orion hurt feelings
Orsi Pick6 kinda ironic that you like the song produced by the guy in your profile picture
chilisauce32 I knew he produced the song before the album came out and it just so happened to be fire
@@gmen1055 yep song is firee
Rest In Peace, Mac. Gone way too soon. Rap Legend💔
This a smoke a blunt type album. Wish I was still in Cali where they danks lye
This is the only album where I actually have every single song in my library and wouldn't even skip any of them
Shawn, did a search but didn’t see it.
Would love to hear your thoughts on Trouble’s Edgewood album. Don’t sleep on this one, it’s damn good.
This album is so soothing. Its my go to album to play going to bed and while I fall asleep
1. Faces
2. Swimming
Extremely surprise to hear of his passing. Such an enjoyable body of work, but still gone WAY too soon. This hurts hard.
Self Care is a piece of art
Shawn Cee where the Nike Tee at?
Perfecto sound like that one kid cudi song “is there any love” with wale. It doesn’t sound like it......but like...idk the drums?? Or the beat?? On it has the exact same sound. Idk you’d have to go listen to that song
man, people really forget that music is the manifestation of an artists thoughts and creations. As the years go by artists have lost that touch, Mac Miller really brought it out in Swimming and in Circles and we all just let Swimming fly by us
The ending of ‘So it goes’ always gets me 😔
This whole album is breathtaking! It’s a beautiful experience. Much love for Mac ❤️
J cole is overrated af
Rob Boley thank you
The horns on ladders in the breaks are something else 😍
I don’t think this album needed any features
Sean Lagunday Not at all. Mac is a complete artist and every song is a masterpiece.
Completely agree. This entire album is a complete thought. Loved it
Absolutely get the point of personal preference and kinda not liking the onlyMac sound on the album, but as for me it is fucking amazing, his vocals and braveness in experiments with different sounding, using his own voice as an instrument itself, things that he was talking about, influencing people to grow stronger with him .. sheeesh man, beautiful, love this work, great album RIP Mac, love ya
I think he had no ft because someone else talking about his problems or trying to join in one he's problems would make sense
This album helps so much to open up with my anxiety and stress it’s such a shame he’s gone, rip Mac
Arguably the most underrated album in the last few years. Mac was incredible.
I can't believe people didn't fuck with this album, every song is great.
Sure Why not it's just too mellow for a lot of people and I think they're not listening to it in the contexts where it shines best.
Swimming > Astroworld > Stay Dangerous
Astro> swimming> stay dangerous astro and swimming are interchangeable on days
Jet fuel is my favorite on the album. It’s my album of the year. Thank you Mac
2009 always makes me cry and i have no idea why
Watching this again, I love the fact that you’re an organic person reviewing the album, well with everything, something about this hits home though
This album made me a mac fan and self care is def my fav track of the year as of now
