- This is the song "Heaven and Hell" covered by the band "Stryper" off their 2011 album "The Covering." The song was originally written by "Black Sabbath/Heaven and Hell" off their "Heaven and Hell" album.
The Covering is released February 15th, 2011, but limited copies were sold on the official Stryper website in mid-January. The album has 13 songs in total. 12 of them are covers and 1 is an original Stryper song entitled 'God.'
Lyrics:
Sing me a song, you're a singer
Do me a wrong, you're a bringer of evil
The devil is never a maker
The less that you give, you're a taker
So it's on and on and on, it's heaven and hell, oh well
The lover of lifes not a sinner
The ending is just a beginner
The closer you get to the meaning
The sooner you'll know that you're dreaming
So it's on and on and on, oh it's on and on and on
It goes on and on and on, heaven and hell
I can tell, fool, fool!
Well if it seems to be real, it's illusion
For every moment of truth, there's confusion in life
Love can be seen as the answer, but nobody bleeds for the dancer
And it's on and on, on and on and on....
They say that lifes a carousel
Spinning fast, youve got to ride it well
The world is full of kings and queens
Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams
Its heaven and hell, oh well
And they'll tell you black is really white
The moon is just the sun at night
And when you walk in golden halls
You get to keep the gold that falls
Its heaven and hell, oh no!
Fool, fool!
Youve got to bleed for the dancer!
Fool, fool!
Look for the answer!
Fool, fool, fool!
Hands down the best cover I've heard of this amazing song.
How is this song about a bad thing? This song is about having the choice to do what you want with your life, and how life can become its own heaven or hell based on your actions.
God bless Black Sabbath
This ROCKS. These guys are still a viable band. No one can truly emulate the late great RJD. The great thing about this cover is Michael Sweet put his interpretation on it without doing an injustice to the original. 👍👍👍👍
+Jimmy Lewis Does it a great justice imo, just heard it.
Astonishing........ Stryper is simply incredible ! This is the best Sabbath cover I've ever heard. This band is overlooked, under-appreciated, misunderstood, & rockin the world anyway! What a tremendous job, this is tremendously impressive. RJD, would have appreciated this tune.
agree with you...
Jim Loeffert checkout the cover by a band called benedictum, and the singer is a girl!
Judy Rodman
Death Angel's version is vastly better than this, and this is pretty good.
Rob Rock's version is better in my humble opinion.
This might be the best cover I've heard of this song. The vocals are great.
This is an amazing cover of a metal classic. Ronnie would be proud.
No he would NOT
@@labra-dog why? Its not a bad cover at all. Its not like Dio hated all Christians, bc they believed. Just wasnt his cup of tea
the devils sign that he used a lot was said to come from his catholic grandmother. not that she invented or anything, but, that it was used by italian catholics to scare off the evil eye. I could be wrong, I´m not a theologist, but to me it seems Dio was pretty close to christianity. it doesnt matter, of course, he was still one of the best rock singers Ive heard, so to me his personal beliefs or personality could be anything, it doesnt change that fact
Music has no religion, it's just one of the best forms of expression ever!!! Awesome cover
Hell yes. This is great. Stryper are awesome musicians and I knew Michael Sweet would knock it out of the ballpark, but he even exceeded my expectations. He does an absolutely killer job on this. I've always loved his soaring, crystal clear, powerful tenor voice. Amazing.
Although, we are all used to the heavier Dio version, once Styper gets started, the intensity does pick up, and they are tremendously proficient musicians..also ,Dio was not an atheist..quite the contrary, he was a deeply spiritual man...just not too religious. He was always looking for divine answers to so many things in life, and like most seekers, he was always looking for deeper answers to questions concerning existence.
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27
Metallica open for Stryper at one point early years.. might have been rocks regime... garage days..
I think they did a great job with the song.. and it shows the depth of thought put into the original creators of the song.. it is not demonic.. it tells the truth of the choice we all are given!!
religion aside.... truely one of most talented bands ever.
....INCREDIBLE... please, never stop.
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27
@@en5788 Religion is the opiate of the masses. Just another system of control. Don't think too much or question authority. Keep you in the Box. You know they say there's enough religion to make men hate each other but not enough to love. Henceforth all the continuous splitting splintering denominations. Fool fool, look for the answer, fool fool fool! R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio
Just to correct someone here, Stryper got signed to Enigma, and once record execs saw the lyrics to their songs, sued the band to get out of the contract. They had no standing. Stryper has never been a gimmick band.
.thankyou
Been a Stryper fan since the yellow and black attack, this is just amazing covers
This cover is f*cking insane! Nobody can beat the original Heaven and Hell, but this comes extremely close to the real one!
Lets be real michael sweet completely outshined dio here... few like to admit it but its true
Michael Sweet is better....no doubt...his voice is so touched and cleared...
All my friends love this cover! Amazing ! Stryper Rocks!
You have to give credit to those who attempt to pay tribute to the great one. All Hail Ronnie James Dio.
They didn't "attempt," they successfully DID!
Ronnie is a legend, anyone who is able to sing as well as he deserves my congrats.
Wow, one of my top 20 best covers, just flat out enjoyable with some great but simple twist on the orginal. in Chicago land we have live bands covering this song regularly
They did open for Slayer.. I never heard them criticize anybody in the music industry.
They've never said "bad things" about those bands, in fat the reason they did this album is bands like Van Halen, Iron Maiden, and Sabbath are their musical influences.
we miss u Ronnie thanks Stryper for covering on this
I miss Stryper! Epic rendition, outstanding!
Living Light amazing albums!
Great tribute! Two of the greatest riffs in metal...in one song! Hail Toni.
Mr Sweet tiene una voz tan potente que bien podría calar en cualquier banda, pero su sello será siempre STRYPER de manera inconfundible
I love everything about this song forever 💯🤘❤🎸😍😎
Como siempre ...geniales!!!!
This is amazing. .doing Ronnie justice
I agree
Pretty epic! Nice guitar work for sure😁
while i love stryper since ive been exposed to them only three years ago but never in my teens, and this is a good effort on there part, it honestly cannot compare to the iommi and dio teamup which is truly superb with iommis captivating sound on his sg and dio with his enchanting voice. quoting guitar magazine back in 1996 for the 100 top guitarists of all time for their influence stated "tony iommi-the godfather who wrote the blueprint for heavy metal and to this day nobody does it better than iommi" is absolutley spot on. i have yet to hear a version that outclasses the original. cheers.
This cover is phenomenal and exceeds the original. You might enjoy it less because you're not used to the rawer more aggressive production
@@benireges well im 56 years old and i was a teenager when the heaven and hell album came out and when i heard dios voice and iommis guitar sound in this song, it captivated me so much it stuck in my mind. it becomes sentimental to me whenever i hear the original version and it reminds me of when i was a teenager. but it is good though and i do enjoy it, but i was being totally honest when i judged it hearing it the first time and again yesterday night without my emotions clouding my judgement. but you probably right though that it exceeds the original and that im not used to this production and yes, everyone has an opinion about it but it doesnt make it wrong or right like you pointed out to me, thats only where i disagree with you. it just a matter of preference to an individual and its maybe sentimental why i feel this way and im stuck in my ways. i dont know how old you are but when you get older you might feel the same way about your era and certain songs that you remember as a teenager. i appreciate you being respectful in your feedback though, and maybe your younger so it was good to heart a different viewpoint. when i heard "calling on you" in made me a stryper fan even though i knew them as a teenager i never got into them. very strange. best wishes and continue enjoying good music.
Stryper is the best hard rock band of the world
I agree with ya bro., these guys are seriously talented, and they love their craft. Their last 2 albums, are the best they have ever put out, (THWTD a very close 3rd).
Espectacular cover Michael!
one of the best songs ever
Gotta love it! I'm sure they knew that covering some of these would result in some controversy and get more people talking about them than if they had put out an album of gospel covers and Stryper need a plug at this point in their career.
Excellent rendition
god has given us the gift of song... what does love for metal have to do with faith? there isn't one satanic song on the covering.. just four bad-ass musicians who have witnessed to millions, god bless micheal, oz, tim, and robert!!
Wow, I'm glad I was sitting down hearing this song done by Stryper!!!! wowza, pretty good cover.
Rock on Ronnie \m/ one of the coolest people and a great, powerful, metal vocalist -- Man on a Silver Mountain is still a fav. as well as this one. I still remember playing this on a boombox yrs ago, catching a bus home and seeing townspeople nodding their heads to the beat. epic ;))
Saludos desde MX
How did they judge other bands? They toured with Ratt, Dokken, White Lion, Anthrax and Bon Jovi?! They were going to play a show with SLAYER.
Excelente cover
beatiful cover
Such a perfect cover.
Great bass work
thanks stryoer, now that I know how to speak English this song really hits home
I think you are mistaken. Styper never judged anyone when they toured They even wanted to do a Heaven and Hell tour with Slayer once. They judge the Devil and his influence on bands but this song is hardly satanic.
Honor the king of metal never die living in music living in heavy metal
I wasn't expecting this to as good as it is, but not bad not bad at all styper.
I love the scream at the end
sing me a song your a singer gotta love it
Wow,.I am a HUGE Stryper fan,,.but .I didn't really care to hear them cover anyone else's songs since I like theirs so much,.But I'm glad I checked this out!!! The absolutely KILLED this,.and the other covers are awesome as well,.Just a testament to the fact that Stryper is EASILY one of the most underrated bands(and songwriters) of all time,.NO OTHER BAND from the 80's can play like this now,.NONE OF THEM,.ZERO!,.That clean living has given them some unbelievable longevity to be sure,.LONG LIVE STRYPER!
your right they killed it alright .... stabbed it in the heart .... and then ran over it just for good measure !!!
Let me put it like this; If that had been the original it would actually never been one of my favorites. I won't say it's terrible but it's just wrong in every possible way. Barely a decent cover to be honest even if the performance is alright. I think it's the vocals that kills it for me, he completely lacks the power and drive to pull that song off.
ZeroTheHero Yeah,.I mean I wouldn't say that this song is in Michael's "wheel house",.But it was still done well,.You think Dio (if alive) could sing Stryper this well?,.I highly doubt it,.SERIOUSLY DOUBT IT
amh007dude I have heard WHOLE Ronnie James Dio tribute albums,.and I don't hearing anyone doing any better,.That's a FACT
Paul Grady No, I don't think anyone can sing Stryper as well as Michael, but that's not the case at hand, is it?
Nice cover!
What's even more amazing is these guys have the God Given talent to play these Secular songs Off The Cuff from memory from 30 years ago with only one practice session , Not Forty Days and Forty Nights like most Secular Atheist Stoner Bands need to play a cover. A portion of the proceeds are expected to help former Has Been Stoner band members in Assisted Living , to accept Jesus Christ so they can Get Stoned Immaculate before kicking the Bucket
All we are between .
Makes sense...can't have Heaven without Hell.
What planet was i living on, only just finding out about this and hearing it for the first time now?!
nice cover...nice voice..awesome band
How can one NOT be jealous of Michael Sweet's voice??
very good cover
Increíble!!!
great voice !!
Cover de respeito,isso é Stryper.
Awesome shit, love this cover .
Outstanding!
I've never taken this band serious, because of the "preach" mentality they carried in their music, but I must say, this is an Excellent Cover.
Some songs are less preachy like the album against the law, and songs like free and honestly
Its so sad that incredibly talented musicians get overlooked because of their beliefs
cool, well now that you've cleared that up for all of us.....
true blessing! thanks
Wow! Just Wow!
one of the better covers of this song
Me desculpem, mas ficou a melhor versão da história 👌🏽
There really are some idiotic, pathetic comments about moving from the light to the dark, its just music and damn good music at that, when I first heard this and saw this live in 82, I didnt think oh this is devil worship, grow up and get an education.
Its still a great song & nothing in metal is really evil its about expressing & not bottling bad energy in.
great cover version \\m//
Buen cover, no superarán el original, pero se nota el respeto por el tema, buena interpretación.
Way to go Michael Sweet, Ronnie is definately smiling.
LOL, I think Ronnie, might not be smiling.. lol ~~~> He might be crying. I went to his grave a few months ago---and I heard something coming from the huge box in LA, lol --- Long Live The Memory RJD-----
@@jasminefairchild8591 8 year old post sweetie. But I stand by my original comment. Its a great cover and Ronnie would be happy hearing it. A lot of folks said that but you decided to respond to me (8 years too late).
@@jasminefairchild8591 its sad how people take out their hatred against god on stryper
Nice cover ! Of course Ronnie was powerful, however I liked this too... HEAVEN&HELL!!
for my brother that was in golf war 👍
I'm surprised Striper didn't do "After forever" from Black Sabbath. That has a more Christian message.
They did eventually. On a recent album
@@MournfulMystic I gotta look for it. Thanks Dwellceller. God bless you and have a Merry Christmas.
Jesus is forever ❤
Stryper!! Michael´s voice stronger the whole band stronger. Great cover
What a voice better than the original 👊✊💪. Michael Sweet n Stryper ruled...
Another Brandenburg? Cool.
2 freaking thumbs up!!!
i like them
"The Devil is never a maker", pretty much what the bible says about 'ol Nick isn't it; so nothing blasphemeous going on here, just an awesome Black Sabbath cover.
Black Sabbath was never satanic. Stryper with their own material were more preachy and didn't induce serious thoughts like Tourniquet did, but they covered this one -- I think Dio is smiling from heaven when Michael Sweet is singing one of Dio's darkest songs with Black Sabbath. They shouldn't done the all four members doing vocals though with this though because it takes away from the dark tone of the song.
Most of their songs under the Ozzy era were about drugs, but the title track off the first album is indeed a satanic song.
ikill4klondikebars nah black sabbath wasn’t a satanic song. It was based on the story about geezer when he saw a demon in his room. It’s not about praising the devil at all.
@hyena419 your soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo right man
Fuckng epic version...
Takes some balls to cover Dio. Nice!
Muy bueno
🤘🤘🤘
Pretty good for a cover tune
Black Sabbath are a Christian band also.
high hat mixed too high. great song, great cover. God gave rock and roll to us.
FUCK YES! in DIO we trust!!
Fuck yeah guys !
I wanna mention two other bands that has very Christian messages in their lyrics. Candlemass, and Helloween. It is just facts.
E O PRIMEIRO AMOR?
WHERE IS THE FIRST LOVE?
whathefuck:::??
Reg Mota
More respect, fruitcake!
WHAT has no talking, keep quiet!
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. Ye can not serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:24
what::??????????????????????
Stryper doing "Heaven and Hell" is like king Diamond doing "to hell with the devil." lol
💪🌹😁👍
