Outstanding! It takes a strong woman to join any branch of the military. We are a Navy Family. We both served, my daughter served and my husband’s son served. A grandson has chosen the Air Force.
Happy belated birthday Rachel. It looks like you had fun. I take a piece of a dowel rod or a piece of narrow, scrap lumber and lay it across the top of the inside lip of the cooler and let the lid rest on the dowel rod/scrap lumber just so it can get some air flow.
Turkeys are my favorite too! We raised the Midget whites. They were fun when they puffed out their chests, stomped, dropped their wings, fanned their tails and pranced around. Happy birthday to the ladies!
I love you guys! Miss Michigan as well- I miss home! Grew up on a tree farm near Watervliet. Love your videos- the sounds, the intermittent peace and quiet, the photos, the info- Thank you! 🌤️
Coolers, fans, saws, etc. Always clean them before storage. Nothing worse than having to do that right when you need to use it. Rachel had PERFECT weather out here (in San Diego) this weekend. I direct sowed alot of veggies and herbs in my garden.
Love the turkeys! I once left my garage open so now every time I leave the house I constantly keep looking back at it over and over until I drive away. It's an obsession! Sometimes I circle back to "re-check" it. LOL
The Turkeys have really grown Todd. They are super cute. Glad the Chicks are doing good too! Thanks on the update on Rachel, she looks like she is having a nice time with Abigail. Awwh sorry about the saplings, hope the two work put. That happens Todd, I don't care if it's just drinks in a cooler it will get moldy. I always clean mine and let them dry completely before putting them up. Thanks for the nice video.
Got my first turkey chick ever. He/she is so chill and is loving hanging with the bantam chicks in the brooder. I’ll have to get more if they’re all as sweet as that one.
Yes. We have to do that too. Close it up with even a hint of moisture and you'll get mold or at the very least an unpleasant odor. Hope your little tree makes it! Be well from Canada 🇨🇦
At least you clean your ice chest out, my hubby uses them, leaves the drinks and water in them. Then, surprise, when I need them, they are full of drinks and water or just plain dirty (we keep some of them outside). Living in SE Louisiana and having hurricane season, I like being able to just go get the ice chest and be able to know it's clean and ready to go. Nothing wrong with that. Hope Rachel enjoys her time with her daughter.
Happy belated birthday, Rachel! We share a birthday month your daughter shares her birthday with my 11 year old. We have 3 birthday in April in our family. Mine is the 14th, and then my sons are the 10th and 24th! Glad you were able to safely get away.
Such a peaceful place you got there! Its funny because you plant pine trees and im ripping mine out. Their VERY DANGEROUS. a bad winter caused them to bend and my husband nearly died trying to cut em. Dont plant too many! Lol! Thank you for sharing it with us! ❤ love from east texas
Already strutting their stuff at ya lol. So cute! That one baby "pine" tree you were sitting by almost looks like a Tamarack with all those new needles as they lose their needle every fall. We have never had a mold problem in our coolers but we do the same thing as you. We set them upside down with the lids opened till they are dry. Everyone I know cleans them after every use regardless if they need it or not. It's not so weird after all!
I clean my coolers religiously now after each use too. I let a friend borrow one and didn't know he didn't clean/dry it out. After a few weeks, I went to use it and it grew a powerful funk/cold situation. Now, I clean well, prop open to dry, and when I go to store, I toss a few of those silica gel packets in them. I used to just store them propped open with a dowel but found some unwanted guests the last time I did that. No more lol.
my son was in RTC great lakes from July to October 2020. he joined last june..he is now training to be a sonar tech. Go Navy parents. Enjoying your great videos.
I have seen our RUclipsrs put a small amount of Apple Cider Vinegar in the water when the chicks first arrive, I don't know it they do that to stop the chicks from getting sticky butt, but worth a try.
Happy Birthday Rachel and Abigail!!! My son lives in San Diego. I went to see him last October and it was really nice. We drove up the coast and walked on the beach. It’s beautiful there!
Rachel is out in my neck of the woods! I'm in Orange county, ca! The turkey babies are so cute! You're taking good care of the turkies and Rachel's garden!
Happy Belated Birthday Rachel & also to your Daughter. Great video Todd thoroughly enjoyed it- I prefer little ducklings but they grow to be very messy -taste great though. Yes we have learnt the lesson after using our Esky (coolers) clean & leave to dry OPEN. Cheers Denise- Australia
I’ve heard that about those little saplings in a tube. We are expecting some from the Arbor Day foundation. It makes you appreciate everything the growers must have to do to get them big enough for the nurseries.
Hi. Todd. The turkeys are awesome. They are soooooo cute.. God Bless you Todd. Rachel, Happy Birthday to you and Abigail. Have fun together. See you when you get back. Todd, when cleaning coolers let dry opened. And keep it opened a crack. Stay safe. Maria.🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
that is how we clean our coolers always here in Florida....mold and mildew is pervasive. When hurricane season begins in june the bloom from mold and mildew is strong and turns concrete and other outdoor items black. yes, bleach is necessary
I wipe my cooler out with white vinegar then when it's dried in the sun, I close it and put it away, but I never lock it closed. Greetings from Sydney Australia.
Our state is still locked down in some parts, other parts are lifting restrictions. No statewide mandates but the governor has left it up to the cities to decide which is one of the most annoying things since some cities would happily remain in lockdown with masks forever 🙄😷 UGH. My city is one of them it drives me nuts!
Happy birthday Rachel and Abigail, my birthday is also the 10th! Hopefully you had a lovely weekend together, and of course some cake! ( mine was chocolate! mostly eaten by my little girls 🎂😋)xxxx
My weird gross story..our vacation camper on a permanent spot my friend came to visit we ate dinner went on about our evening my friend put her leftovers up in the microwave. Next morning we left. I returned a month later. Needless to say the microwave had to be removed it was built in the cabinet over the stove and throw out! Now I check the microwave every time I leave home. Happy birthday Rachel and to your daughter.
I've watched great permaculture videos on staging the trees (walnut, maple, mulberry, etc. Then apple trees, pear, peach, elderberry and in the lowest level using berry bushes). Of course planting in the direction that they will not shade out the ones below completely. So interesting to me. If only I had more land. I've also learned the hard way with coolers. Now, I just flip upside down and air dry.
We'll.. Happy Birthday! 9th is also my nephew Ty's birthday..and his Grandpa's as well!! I'm hoping to have my new coops built by end of May..so we can get our chickens & turkeys..
I think it’s a good idea to clean your cooler like that. I would also add a dowel or something to slightly prop it open while being stored, just in case there was some moisture you weren’t aware of. You can also use white vinegar instead, so it does have a lingering bleach smell.
Dear Todd, Enjoyed your post on the young turkeys and the young white pine trees you brought back from your cabin. Sorry to hear about the pine trees in pots. Please tell us exactly what burned their needles? Was it fresh manure from the barn? What was the lesson learned? Many of us could probably learn from your experience. As always, thank you for your instructive and enjoyable videos. Sincerely, Larry Clarence Lewis, Canada.
Goat manure is normally not considered "hot". In that you can apply it to your garden without composting it first. I thought, this has a lot of nutrients, I bet the pines would enjoy it. Well, after living in a pot for nearly 2 years, to goat manure was still too "hot" for the sterile life they had been living. And it was a shock to their system. All the needles turned brown. I removed as much of the poop as I could, but still so much had leached into the soil at that point, it was just too much for them. By getting them out of the pots, and into a much larger volume of space. The roots now have more space to breath "in fresh soil" now. Which is probably why they're starting to recover. My theory 😃 I hope that makes sense.
The birds are awesome. Yep you really should rinse/bleach out your coolers each time you use them. It’s just a safe good handler practice. The stuff from the barn was just too “hot”. Typically young plants and trees aren’t ready for heavy fertilizer. It’s best to wait until they mature a while and or just top dress with aged compost.
My story involves a chest freezer and a two year old. She discovered the plug and pulled it out of the socket ( unseen by anyone). Inside the freezer was a lonely frozen turkey waiting for Thanksgiving. Fast forward one month.....well I'm sure I don't have to tell you the surprise we got. So yes, one bad incident will make you change your ways in a hurry.
I love that chicken tractor! Does it require a small tractor or mower to move it since it looks pretty big? Also I know that feeling you had with the tree. I'm a new gardener so sometimes when things go really good I get too ambitious too fast and ruin progress. Last year though my tomatoes ended up not getting staked up because I got a really sick for a month and I went back out and they were forests with various stem parts rooted randomly into the dirt. They produced great but were a mess to handle and a bit unsightly.
Your digging animal might have been a skunk or a woodchuck, Todd. I have occasional holes around my property, and those are the most common "diggers". Skunks in particular will dig a random bunch of holes, looking for bugs or worms to eat. I think emptying your cooler every time you use it and cleaning it out with bleach makes total sense. I wish you could teach that skill to my family members, ha ha! So many times, I've opened a cooler to find what you've described...not fun. I'm pretty picky about cleaning tools in general, like my mops and cleaning cloths, etc, all used parts get gone over with distilled vinegar and water (my equivalent of bleach). I'm particularly careful with my ancient 44" walk-behind Toro mower, as I don't even think they make them anymore. End of the season, drain the fluids, including gas, go over the whole thing, scrape the underside thoroughly, brush off all the grass from everywhere, all the shut-down things for big tools. It's about 25 years old, maybe older, and when it's gone, I have no idea how I'll mow my lawn. It's huge. Very Happy Birthday, Rachel and Abigail! 🌻
Noticed air gap between the bottom of the tractor and the ground that a mink could easily get through. Do you have mink in your area? I cant use tractors because of uneven ground.
Haven't come across a mink around here, so far. Mostly opossum and racoons. At night, when most of our predators are hunting, the chickens and turkeys are all up inside the coop area above. It has a locked door, wood walls, and the floor is 1/4 steel hardware cloth (not chicken wire). And there's roosts inside, so the chickens can get up off the floor. So while not perfect, we feel is safe enough for us where we live.
My horrible habit is forgetting to clean the coolers after the last trip of the season....then they're AWFUL 4 or 5 months later when I go to get them ready. It's a viscous cycle I can't seem to break!
Todd, Have a question, do you guys have goats because you’re cute pets? Or do you actually drink their milk? Are you harvest them? Or are they just your pets that help you with the yard fertilizing it? Just being nosy because I never hear you both talking about goats milk. Just nosy, lol

Happy birthday to both ladies. And thank your beautiful daughter for her service. Stay safe and god bless.
Gobble gobble thanks for sharing with us.
Morning Todd, nice seeing you all.
"it was doing great, then I messed with it" 😂 story of my brown thumb life!
Happy belated birthday Rachel. It looks like you had fun.
I take a piece of a dowel rod or a piece of narrow, scrap lumber and lay it across the top of the inside lip of the cooler and let the lid rest on the dowel rod/scrap lumber just so it can get some air flow.
Happy birthday to Rachel and Abigail!!

See your holding up the homestead Todd. Love your little turkeys. Enjoy your time away Racheal.
I love you guys! Miss Michigan as well- I miss home! Grew up on a tree farm near Watervliet. Love your videos- the sounds, the intermittent peace and quiet, the photos, the info- Thank you! 🌤️
Great job keeping up the fortress Todd!
Yep! I clean them, let them dry completely , before putting them away. Good job taking care of the babies and garden while Rachel is away.
Coolers, fans, saws, etc. Always clean them before storage. Nothing worse than having to do that right when you need to use it. Rachel had PERFECT weather out here (in San Diego) this weekend. I direct sowed alot of veggies and herbs in my garden.
I really like the idea of spraying out the coolers... Thanks Todd 🙏 Kendra
So glad Rachel was able to get away for a girls weekend!! How fun.
Well deserved time away 😝
Love the turkeys! I once left my garage open so now every time I leave the house I constantly keep looking back at it over and over until I drive away. It's an obsession! Sometimes I circle back to "re-check" it. LOL

Happy birthday to Rachel and her daughter. La Jolla is beautiful. I live in Oceanside, about 30 mins away 😎
Got my first turkey chick ever. He/she is so chill and is loving hanging with the bantam chicks in the brooder. I’ll have to get more if they’re all as sweet as that one.
Many will stay chill like that even as adults. They can be so friendly 😉
Happy Birthday Rachel and Abigail! 🎂 Turkeys and chickens look great. Abigail, thank you for your service 🇺🇸
Yes. We have to do that too. Close it up with even a hint of moisture and you'll get mold or at the very least an unpleasant odor. Hope your little tree makes it! Be well from Canada 🇨🇦

I missed this video , Happy Birthday 🎉
Turkeys are so cute !
Yes coolers are so finicky that's a great habit to form
For your coolers: try washing them out, then store it with a small piece of cedar inside/blocking the lid open a crack.
Already strutting their stuff at ya lol. So cute! That one baby "pine" tree you were sitting by almost looks like a Tamarack with all those new needles as they lose their needle every fall. Thanks for the video, Todd! I always make sure the coolers are clean...a little work on the front saves in the long run!!
Happy birthday you Rachel and Abigail! You both are gorgeous!
AWWW, Happy Birthday Rachel!!!! Those pictures are amazing! Looks like you are having a fabulous time!!! Enjoy!!
Happy Happy birthday 🎂🎉 RACHEL!!! Glad you got away with your chilling. See ya soon ❣️
🎂 HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOU GUYS❣
Love turkeys!
Happy Birthday Rachel! San Diego is so much fun, but daughters are so much better 💓. Hope you are having a blast.

I hope they enjoy the trip!!!
Much Spring Rains...
Keeping me inside, too...
Bunnies are good at digging up plants to make nests.
I do let my coolers dry out in the sun - I don’t use bleach- vinegar and water.
Aww they’re gorgeous.

Incredibly beautiful 🌊
I definitely clean coolers thoroughly because of a similar experience.
Totally! I usually only need to learn lessons once.
Rachel is out in my neck of the woods! I'm in Orange county, ca! The turkey babies are so cute! You're taking good care of the turkies and Rachel's garden!
My turkeys are supposed to arrive in June. I can’t wait!
I bleach the coolers too. I’m also really fussy about a clean kitchen. I don’t think you’re weird 🤷🏻♀️
Happy belated birthday and Happy birthay

I live in Michigan. Both of my hives died this year as well. Thanks for the video
Aww adorable
Yep we always clean and dry our cooler after camping. We wrecked an igloo yrs ago with mold so now it’s just part of unpacking
My husbands bosses raised turkeys, and they were so huge!
Turkeys 🦃 are my favorite to raise too. With cleaning coolers, it's a necessity. I deep clean, dry in the sunshine 🌞 then store with dry paper inside.
I wipe my cooler out with white vinegar then when it's dried in the sun, I close it and put it away, but I never lock it closed.
Greetings from Sydney Australia.
We are in lockdown in Ontario. Glad to see Covid is over in the US!
It's hardly over but we aren't locked down anymore

I have to dry the RV fridge and freezer real good and leave it open all winter in off season so we don't get the black mold

Oh my. I can kinda smell it just by reading your story ☺️
I love that chicken tractor! Does it require a small tractor or mower to move it since it looks pretty big?

Where did the carrots get planted? My inquiring mind must know. 🥕🥕🥕🐥🐥🐥 Babies are adorable too!
In the garden right next to the onions. I'm sure Rachel will give you all proper update next week when she's back.
Does anyone else hit like before the video even starts. 🥰
Awe, thank you ☺️
It's not just you lol
Good to know 😄
Your digging animal might have been a skunk or a woodchuck, Todd.
You’re lucky. Another reason I cant use tractors...bears can flip them with one paw. Poultry stalags in my area.
My horrible habit is forgetting to clean the coolers after the last trip of the season....then they're AWFUL 4 or 5 months later when I go to get them ready. It's a viscous cycle I can't seem to break!
Todd,
Have a question, do you guys have goats because you’re cute pets? Or do you actually drink their milk? Are you harvest them? Or are they just your pets that help you with the yard fertilizing it? Just being nosy because I never hear you both talking about goats milk.
Just nosy, lol
We orig intended to breed them, so we could sell the babies and milk. But we never did. So at this time, they're kind of just pets ♥
❤
