  • Learn How to Optimize Your Category & Collection Pages for SEO.
    Here's the game plan:
    Sticking with the theme of 3, we're going to break down category-page optimization into 3 parts:
    1. Collections over products: the logic behind why it works
    2. Basic category-level optimizations: Setting up your page design & content for success
    3. Advanced category-page optimizations: Internal links, Sub-sub collections, reviews
    Before we go any further, I want to make one thing clear. When I say "collections" or "categories," I'm referring to the same type of page. I primarily work with Shopify brands, and as many of you know, the Shopify CMS refers to category pages as "collections." But if you work in Squarespace , Wordpress, or another CMS, they're often just called "categories."

    Hey! Thank you for the quick intro on how to optimize categories. I enjoyed listening. You read naturally from the doc. What would've improved the experience more for me would be if there were examples. Switching windows or something. A second screen would be a great way too. Once again, thank you!

    Just seen this vid, how you add separate content at the bottom of the collection, but not using custom html as need each collection with different content

      We work with some brands that use dynamic metafields, that's probably the best alternative option!

    Hey Kai,
    Firstly thank you! Everything I’ve learnt on SEO is thanks to you. Yes I’m just a little handmade brand who hasn’t worked out how to upscale yet…. but I’m starting to rank near the top of page 1 for a couple of KW’s. One that has reasonable traffic and is transactional! All thanks to you!
    I do have a couple of really burning questions and wondered if I could reach out to you and ask?

    Great video! Question: You added 600 words to the bottom of the collection page, is this minimum or the amount you reccomend? does it make sense to add another paragraph and continue to link to sub collections? Appreciate it

    • @searchkaicromwell
      @searchkaicromwell  2 месяца назад

      Thanks! 600 would be the max, I’ve actually trimmed this to ~400 lately. And yes, it’s good to link between similar collections.

    Hi Kai thanks for this video. Quick question: does the bit under the products make a big difference to rankings? Or can you get away with just the collection description with a ‘read more’ button above the products ?

    • @searchkaicromwell
      @searchkaicromwell  Месяц назад

      However you decide to set the page content up, be it at the bottom or with a read more button, I'd recommend at least 300-500 words in total. Layout can be your choice

      Thanks - one other question: what’s your advice if stuck on position 3-5 on Google? How do you get to #1?

      @@elliotmchugh8581 Build more internal links to that page with an exact match keyword anchor. Could also make small tweaks to the meta title to position your target keyword closer to the front of it.

    Hey Kai, thanks for the awesome videos you put out. Helped me tremendously. Quick question: noticed you didn't mention anything about Google Merchant Center. Are they important for eCommerce organic SEO or later stage when doing google Ads?
    Wanted to DM you on twitter but couldn't since I'm not verified and found nowhere else to reach you.
    Thanks!

    • @searchkaicromwell
      @searchkaicromwell  4 месяца назад

      They are relevant for organic/SEO but with Google transitioning to such an ad heavy SERP for products, it’s unlikely that merchant center will make a massive difference until you start running google ads

    Hi great content.
    What do you mean with duplicate category and targeting different keywords?

    • @searchkaicromwell
      @searchkaicromwell  8 месяцев назад +2

      Example would be that you sell laptops, and let’s say specifically that you have 10 laptop SKUs. You could create a collection to target “laptops for college students” and then create another collection for “laptops for video editors.” In both cases, you could have the same 10 SKUs in each collection, you’re just targeting a different keyword with them, but you’ve now essentially doubled the number of ways that customers can find your product on Google. You could continue to “duplicate” the same collections for as many keywords as you can identify.

    • @adrianbratoiu5744
      @adrianbratoiu5744 7 месяцев назад +1

      But won’t Google get confused and think that would be duplicate pages? Asuming that you would have to assign those 10 laptops multiple categories

    • @searchkaicromwell
      @searchkaicromwell  7 месяцев назад +1

      No! And it's because the category level page is optimized for a different keyword. It's the same premise as an Amazon result ranking #1 for different keywords - it's the same on the backend but there are multiple ways to frame the category essentially. @@adrianbratoiu5744

    • @adrianbratoiu5744
      @adrianbratoiu5744 7 месяцев назад

      What I meant with my question was that if I create a product page for laptop 1 and another product page for laptop 2 and so on, I will assign in each product 3 or 5 or 10 categories. And I meant that google might see them as duplicate pages. Maybe what you say is that if I have 3, 5, 10 categories and I want the same laptops in each of them I should make as many product pages as I need for those products even if they are the same. Is that right?

    • @searchkaicromwell
      @searchkaicromwell  7 месяцев назад +2

      @@adrianbratoiu5744 The number of products you have won't change at all, just the number of collections. Let's call your SKUs laptop a, laptop b, and laptop c - you have just 3 of them. Initially, you created a collection (let's call it collection 1), and optimized it just for "laptops." But that's too competitive, so you created collection 2 and optimized for "laptops for video editors." You would still put laptop a, laptop b, and laptop c in that collection, but you wouldn't have to duplicate the product pages or change anything on them. So it's not duplicate content because it's the same PDP & SKU

    • @searchkaicromwell
      @searchkaicromwell  2 месяца назад

      I wouldn't start with that many, it'll be difficult to incorporate them all into the site architecture. Would start with 5-10 first.

      @@searchkaicromwell actually we already have 50, thanks to your videos I've ranked one on Bing but Google of course is a bit more difficult with just internal linking without backlinks since I'm strapped at the moment
