I definitely remember this storm!! This was one of the most intense severe storm we had in the Twin Cities in years!! The lightning show reminds me of storms I witnessed when I was in Wichita, Kansas. It was great to see the frequent lightning in different colors!!
You have made a wonderful video. I was looking for "approaching thunderstorm" and after several misses your video showed up. It's exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
Great audio of the positive strokes that you have! I've seen a bunch of videos of this event and it looks spectacular... wish I was there. Looks like this storm had an unusual charge structure that made it produce frequent positive ground flashes (positive meaning that positive charge is removed from the cloud to ground-- negative strokes are far more common). The notable thing with a lot of positive strokes is that they do not branch at all close to ground, so the thunder sounds like a cannon, firework, bomb, or fighter jet. The sound just slams into you because you're not hearing the side branches that normally accompany common negative strokes. Visually, positive ground flashes are usually a single stroke to ground which often hangs there for a while due to continuing current, and the bolts appear smooth and sometimes make really weird paths to ground. --Chris
Awesome lightning footage! Lots of positive lightning, too! You could hear the static sizzle from that flash you said "Oh, boy" to. Good thing you went inside just before that! Haha. Great video!

Awesome storm coming from a person who is terrified of severe thunderstorms. As long as I was glued to a local weather channel in Minneapolis watching this I might have been ok. Probably shaking a little, you know what though, mature mother will do what the hell she wants to do. Try not to be afraid, listen to local weather meteorologists and you should be ok. But that looked intense!
I remember being woke up at 3am in spain last year and seeing as i was sleeping a storm with this much intense lightning it was like a goddam disco out side i call this lightning type strobe lightning because it looks like a strobe effect due to how frequent it is crazy day that was
Greetings from Texas. When we get thunderstorms during the hottest days of summer, they are often severe due to extreme heat merging with cooler temperatures. Later this week, we may get up to 105°F, which makes me miss it when we don't have a storm and rain.
Had something similar in the UK, I think about 2021, didn't last as long though and wasn't as dramatic, though one thunder strike was big enough to set off car alarms
I remember a severe t-storm here in Switzerland which was also like that, not even a single second timespan between flashes. And it happened about the same morning hours as in your video. Some few hours later, another rolls in, more akin to a normal t-storm in the Alps... xD
In November 2019, I was in the French alps (southeast France) and a storm developed that never ended. It went on and on all night. I had never experienced such a thing. My latest video includes clips of the lightning striking the ridges directly across from me.
I went through a thunderstorm just like this one where I live in New York in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Just like this Storm, both had come down from Québéc, Canada..moving immediately South-Southeast. The lightning and thunder was amazing and scary. But personally, this storm looked far worse.

I'm so fucking jealous watching this. We never get anything even remotely this badass where I live. Can you send of these monster storms towards the baltic sea? Thank you.
Sad to say that I don't get storms like this in my area of north Jersey. Not sure if it is because of the maritime climate effect, or if it's topographical. What ever it is, it's been like this for more than 25 years or so. Very very disappointing to say the least!!
If you play it back at 25% speed and pause during 2:50, you can SEE the absolute monster that produced that UNHOLY positively-charged crack at 2:53
I would have jumped if I heard that live haha
Nice video. I live in Chicago and we get them like this
Whatever good night's sleep everyone was having, that just went out the window!

Nothing like the sound of a Positive Clap of Thunder from a Positive Lightning No Sound Like it .Great Video
I miss those Midwest thunderstorms. Rolling thunder and prolific lightning brings back memories.
2:54 that legitimately sounds like war.
3:07 that legitimately also sounds like war.
3:17 a little too close for comfort.
Awesome stuff!
All that constant flickering and flashing! Simply amazing! Good capture.
Everything about this video is perfect!
Totally, amazing footage!!
Wow.... Amazing lightning... I have seen lightning this intense a few times way up here in Saskatchewan, Canada after a hot, humid week.
