This reminds me of the 1970s and the glory days of English chess. Lots of games were like this, mad tactical battles eventually decided by a blunder.
A World Championship game where the engine bars jumps all over the place after every move because there are so many tactics that both players don't find the most computer-accurate move. Have we seen anything like this in a long time?

Wondering if Ding’s Re1-e2 move looked like a passive defence of f2 with a possibility of swinging across to c2 later, making Ian forget it was still on the e-file and perfectly entitled to move forwards. I’ve had blind spots like this myself, but obviously a World Championship contender would hope to be better than that!
I like these sorts of games, even though I tend to blunder in them. Nice recap. Thumbs up.

I don;t know why I am happy for Ding winning this game and coming back in the match, but I do. I should be more indiferent, since I have no conections with either players, but I keep the fingers cross for Ding.
I feel Ding is being coerced into playing by the CCP. Feels like he really wants to quit or defect with his family.

The verb is "to comment" not "commentate". It is "who's really attacking whom", not "who is attacking who".
Thanks! Although I deliberately use casual conversational English in these videos to tell you the truth, eg I see the term ‘whom’ in my day job when talking to colleagues and clients but say at home chilling with friends and family I wouldn’t say whom! Thanks a lot for watching anyway
@@epicchess2021 ---- It's possible to say "it's whom you know" subtly. I see common standards slipping, moral laxity, to the point where people expect lies. English is a comparatively easy language, so I try to uphold grammatical rules which make it. Your chess videos and analysis are good. (And Ian is overweight.)

Spassky once said that if your opponent makes a inaccuracy do not try to punish it immediately just wait as another one is sure to follow. Then it is easier to make good inroads to his position. I think players like Fischer, Morphy and Kasparov would have punished Ian for the loss of tempo with the bc8-d7-g4 moves. The blunders by both players in this Championship are awful. It will go down as the worst one ever played. Ian should never be allowed to play in one again due to the insane fastness of his moves that prove to fatal when what is needed is deep thought and steady nerves which Ian does not have.
Imagine being #2 in the world at something only to get shit on in the youtube comments by bots and NPCs

I agree with you this World Championship has been full of blunders. But on what basis do you say "Ian should never be allowed to play in one again"? Remember he won the Candidates Tournament by 1.5 points, and had his candidacy confirmed with 2 full rounds still to play. Whatever his style of play, he totally dominated the field and was thoroughly deserving of playing another World Championship. It's just that Magnus Carlsen chose not to defend, as we would probably expect a very similar result as last time. Magnus Carlsen is just too far ahead of everyone else in the field. But that doesn't say much about what is below him. Everyone has weaknesses at the moment. Even great solid players like Caruana have been playing badly, that's why he (and others) are going down in rankings. Nepo and Ding are already #2 and #3 by ratings points. They are the best the world has to offer besides Magnus.
@@pineapplesareyummy6352 Nepo is quite in Match Play. FIDE needs to go back to having Candidate Matches to give the players some experience in it as Match Play is totally different than Tournament Play as demonstrated by Nepo.

Thanks for the video. But you must be using the same software as Ben Finegold, as I don't like the feature where the board gets whitened when you show a possible line that isn't part of the game. Very annoying to see the it blinking like that.

I've never seen worse play in a World Championship than in this one. F5 is a mistake that a 1500 coffeehouse player wouldn't make. First half of the game, Ding's play was very passive. Second half of the game, Nepo must have missed at least 5 wins. Sure the game was "exciting" but for all the wrong reasons.

Great coverage and analysis as always EC 👍. This may be the elephant in the room but I think it needs saying: There is no way Magnus would have played like this. Magnus would have won as either black or white at various times and in various positions throughout the game. Fabi's commentary indicated that he understood the position(s) better than the players. History will look back on this as a second rate world championship where the best player in the world by a country mile was not in attendance (similar to Fischer's refusal to defend). I do not view this as a proper World Championship. I am happy to be corrected by anyone reading who holds a different opinion on this matter.
Fischer's case was different. Anatoly Karpov turned out to have been a worthy and dominant World Champion who would be the best player in the world for a decade until Kasparov dethroned him. In any case, Fischer's mental state after becoming World Champion was already becoming questionable, so there is every chance he could have lost to Karpov, maybe fear was the reason he didn't want to play. But here, I am very doubtful either Nepo or Ding could replicate Karpov's success.
