    The zg1000 is legend. I have ridden thousands upon thousands of miles on several of them, including towing a trailer, moto camping, two-up multi-state touring and extensive 1052 build-ups. You cannot go wrong with this model.

    Nice vid. Concours owner here. The center stand is hard until you get the hang. It’s all in the stomp, not the pull up. You gotta stand with all your weight on that stand and just guide her back. She’ll go up, no need fir a buddy, and I’m not any giant. Just did two days on mine, 1000 miles mostly twists. Crazy how capable it is 36 years after it came out. And DIRT cheap. Rip that Ninja 1000 motor past 7 grand up to about 11, hear that Kawi howl, throw her into a sweeper, smile, and appreciate all the money you have left in the bank. Kawasaki. Letting the good times roll, no matter how skinny your bankroll.

    Well, I have a 1987 Concours I bought new when I was 33 years old. And in 2024, with regular maintenance and "keep moving, " we are both in good shape for vintage models. And hey, "Let's be careful out there!"

    I bought a new 2005 Connie brand new. I put 81000 miles in 18 months riding from Jacksonville,Fl. to Brunswick Georgia 82 miles one 6 days a week plus weekend touring. No issues riding 85 to 90 mph on the interstate. One of the best bike's ever.

    Love my Concours. Bought a new one in 2001 because it was as close to a BMW GS1200 that I could afford! Still riding it 19 years later even though I could afford the BMW now!

    Crashed my 99 Concours doing 100mph and I’m still riding it. No severe injuries either, that fairing saved my leg and kept the bike from getting totaled.

    I've owned a 2006 (red) and currently own a 2002 (Silver) Concours. I love these bikes. I've used mine as daily drivers. quick off the mark. lots of torq, and with 6 gears, they're very maneuverable above 20 mph. 108hp, 120 flbs of torq...a great bike. Very heavy to handle at low speeds in low speed turns (wants to "turn in" on you) it's a great bike. it's the most comfortable bike to ride on long distance my wife has ever pillioned on.

    Had an '86, a '99, and now riding an '05. Engineering masterpiece; excels in every way. Many great rides, including tent camping, sport riding, continent-spanning Interstate. Brilliant concept, brilliant execution. Build quality is mind-boggling. 1994 to 2006 are the ones to look for.

    This motorcycle is designated as a ZG 1000. It's big brother is the awesome record setting Z1000. The difference between this engine and the Z-1000 is very, very little. The Z-1000 was one of the first super bikes and it had 32 mm carbs where the ZG has 28 mm carbs. This is also one of the very first bikes to have a 6 speed transmission. Instead of a chain it is shaft driven. There aren't that many frills on a Z-1000 and the C-10 Concours has only that which you need to have a great, true Sport/Touring bike. You can slap on a shorty windscreen and remove the rear bags and you have a Sport bike true to what a Sport bike is suppose to be. Put on the screen and readjust the shocks and suspension and put the bags back on and you can cruise anywhere any other Touring bike can take you. The bike has probably one of the best seats ever put on a Kawasaki motorcycle. Ask anyone and they will tell you how comfortable the bike really is. I have a 2001 model with almost 20K on it. It runs and still looks like a new bike and it is 19 years old. I'll probably never own another bike before I have to quit riding. I'm 67 and I can still ride this bike with no problems. I have been riding since I was about 13 years old so I have seen a lot of pavement and gravel. But they don't make really good simple bikes like these any more, Today's modern bikes are probably safer with ABS and traction control but if you have been riding a long time you have both of those options in your head because you know most of the time what you are getting into before you get to it and you know how to handle your bike to adjust to the conditions. That is what a lot of riders these days are losing out on. It's sorta like when you learned to drive. With us you had to be able to drive a standard before you would be able to drive by yourself at all. Well when you learn how to handle a bike without all the new do dads then you should be able to ride with confidence after that on any bike, keep it between the ditches boys and girls.

      I bought the original 1986 model a year ago for $1000 with 7000 miles on it. I couldn't believe a 34 year old bike could have such low mileage. I love it, I've put some very long days in the seat and was not at all sore. That's saying a lot because like you I am in my 60's. My bike isn't perfect, the lower faring was removed and came in a box so I do get a lot of heat from the engine. I've learned to spread my legs when that happens. I rode the famous 3 Twisted Sisters ride out of Leakey, Texas a few weeks ago and had a blast. Just beautiful down there. Now 16,500 and counting, I think Colorado is next.

      That's completely wrong. The ZG1000 engine is a GPX1000RX engine with softer cams and a few other restrictions.This was called the Ninja 1000 in some territories, but never the Z1000. This is the ZX1000A motor, developed from the GPz900r. It bears only passing resemblance to the Z1000 engine, which is an air cooled 8 valve. (As opposed to watercooled 16.) The Z1000 is a much older design. You can bolt an entire Gpx1000rx top end on a ZG and it will breathe fire though. IMO Kwak overdid the softening. There's little improvement in low end torque over the GPX version and the ZG really runs out of breath at the top end. It was still a great bike (all Kwak 4s are).

      @@RodFleming-World Well thanks for the tutorial, I guess you are right. Somebody else told me what I spouted and he was suppose to be a Kawasaki guru. Just goes to show there is a lot more to something than what people will tell you. I do know one thing, that bike is a superb motorcycle for someone who wants to ride comfortably and safely. And if 137 mph is not fast enough and it runs out of steam after that I wouldn't know. I backed off of it after that but it still was picking up speed, so I don't really know how fast it will go. I got a little chicken and the road was running out of straightaway. I think it is fast enough for old folks.

      @@TBullCajunbreadmaker hi I'm not a guru but I have owned all these bikes and I read up on their development. Unfortunately you encountered what is known amongst sailors as a 'scuttlebutter' - some who hasn't a scoobie but pretends to be a source of wisdom. Best place for them is in the sea.

    I just found an 05 zg1000 with 14k miles on it. 1 owner (55 year old man) he used it to go to work, for 10 years. It had been sitting for a while, so I rebuilt carbs. WOW these things roll pretty dam good. Put 160 miles on it yesterday mostly in rain These bikes are great values.

    I have a '99 ZG1000 with 77k miles, and I ride it daily. It's extremely smooth and very peppy. I've seen them with 130k miles and still on all original engine parts. 🤘

    Picked up a double ought summer of 22, with 18k miles on it, for around two grand. I've ridden many cruisers, rockets, and cafes, and this bike....far and away is my favorite! Like many have stated, these are sleeper bikes, and for their age. will keep or beat many half their age. Love the highway miles this thing sheds/shreads. Only "issue" ive found is that tires are getting harder to find (choices are slim), and the Boys in Green dont/cant/wont do the scheduled maintenance on the carbs and valves (no 'puter to tell what screw to turn).

    Love my 2003. Owned it for 16 years and counting, and been in 10 states with it. I rigged up a Vista Cruise on mine. Works great!

    I was almost gone when I saw you riding around with a tshirts and shorts... but once you said you'd take a Harley with the same mileage - before - taking a watercooled shaft driven bike that's technologically LIGHT yeaes YEARS ahead of a nasty/sloppy low performance aircooled Harley, I couldn't punch that X fast enough!

    I had a 2001. One of the best features was being able to go get food with it and put your fountain drink in one of those front gloveboxes.
    It was my first streetbike after having only owned a DRZ 400. I ended up selling it after 4 years and picked up a CB500X instead. I like the 500X better just because it just feels so much more solid and light and handles much better. I do miss the highway cruising power though....
    Definitely don't miss getting less than 30 mpg for short commutes around town however which is less than I get with my car. the CB500X makes way more sense for these short commutes and I always get 70+ mpg around town, which is excellent!
    If you have 2k budget for a sport tourer though, the concours is the answer. They pull really good up to 100mph and have good handling at backroads speed.

    Hey, thank you for posting this video. I watched it. I've been on the fence, I'm going to pull the trigger and get me a 2006. Very excited. I was debating this bike or a C90T. Coming from mainly a sport background, this makes most sense. Pumped for that 7 gallon tank!

    just saw this video in my long run of zg 1000 search. I would agree that the looks, you either love it or not. That being said I own a ' 87 my self and she is a sleeper for sure! beautiful ride and well put on stats. Really enjoyed the video. side not: the s is silent!!! lol

    The "Thing" on the end of the RH side handlebar is called "Throttlemeister Cruise Control". I understand they went out of business in 2019. Personally I found it difficult to roll the throttle lock to 'ON" while I was holding the throttle in one position. I usually just held the throttle with my left hand and used my right to lock the throttle. It looked good, unobtrusive on the bike, but a poor design IMO. For my money the "Vista Cruise for dual throttle" works way better. For the Connie, you have to modify it a bit to get it to fit between the push/pull cables, but very doable. Works great after you adjust the tension, as you roll the throttle where you want and just thumb the lever down and lock the throttle. Way easier than the Throttlemeister.
    The seat is ok, but after bout 3-4 hr.s, you start to get numb butt (seat's too soft, but you can firm em up, and/or get a Corbin or other aftermarket). These MCs ~ C10 > 1986-2006 were a lot less expensive then the competition. Lock & screw valve adjustment every 6K, good luggage, with aftermarket trunks available. For me the only real PITA is the tires. The front is easy enough to replace as a radial, but the rear in a radial can be hard to find in the 150/80 VR16. Avon has/had some radials, but the original Dunlap rubber (K701F & K770G) was not a good choice if you pushed it at all. Ya, it's got a face that doesn't beckon to everyone.... Eh, it's a bike that really functions, just not that good looking to some. :=)

    This is one of motorcyclings best kept secrets. These bikes are reliable and comparable to most modern bikes albiet with out all the ectronic gismos that the new bikes need to make the rider feel like they can perform better than they really can. These are seat of the pants machines where you adjust your riding.

    Wow that was a nice test drive I actually have a bike just like this, same year same color. You just reminded me how much I miss taking her out for a ride. I really like that tank decal where can I get one? I've had my bike around 5 years and have no plans to replace it. It performs like a champ and is comfortable enough to ride all day!

    I had a ‘99, and I wish I still had it! The seat was very comfortable, the bags were cavernous, and the bike had more than enough power for my needs. Never had any issues with the weight or center stand.

    I have a 2006 with 59,000 on it. It runs great. It's a little top heavy and when I stop at red lights and stop signs I have to use a little shoulder english to keep it straight. It's heavy so getting it up on the center stand is tough. There's a lot of noise coming over the windshield so I have to wear ear plugs. When you hit bumps, EVERYTHING rattles, the fairing, the saddle bags..... It's hard starting in the morning even with the choke. I crank for 5 seconds with the choke on and throttle wide open and then recrank with no throttle and she fires. Gotta lower the choke right away, slowly or else it'll rev up high. It takes practice.... It's a nice ride though....

    Ive owned everything Harleys at least 10, Hondas Goldwings to 750’s , 3 or 4 of these have the 03 Concours now and my 2005 Gl 1800 the Concours is alot of fun and with Hard Bags on can do some distance 300 miles in a day hurts my butt, Im 63

    I was riding in extreme wind. I could barely lift my hand off the bar i was so scared. This old harly hippy goes past me on the highway riding one handed and sort of adjusted himself as to make me freak out even more. And i thought my bike was heavy.

    Great bikes, selling mine in Tampa bay 16k miles 2006 changing brake fluid next, lithium battery, zero problems ever! local guy want 3500 for older with 45k, getting too old, should be used. Fun look good has extra windshield custom better seat. More will miss it. Probably list this week, get one won’t be disappointed. Tons with crazy high miles. Everyone thinks it’s bmw cause blue shape. Never tempted to get others, had most types.

    Thinking about buying an 06 with 29k miles for $1600 over in Pittsburgh. Its not the prettiest lol but i kinda like it the more i see it. Comfort & speed are important after buying a dual sport for my first bike. Would like to take a road trip

    Good review, but never heard of anyone saying an air cooled V twin would be a better high mileage bike than any water cooled bike.

    Never been a fan of sport bikes, a.k.a. crotch rockets, but when this came out, I fell right in love with it. Unfortunately, I wasn't in a position to buy one.😢

      Great to hear. I ride mine without windshield. For a few weeks without whole fairing due to fairing rattling.

    I had the first GTR 1000 conquors I think about 1998 that thing had no power I mean it was restricted, I loved it as a tourer 27 litre tank and great on gas but could barely hit 100mph, I love the luggage capacity on mine but lacked that power. Shaft drive fantastic smooth, mine had little airwings for summer riding and inserts when the hard luggage was taken off, my bike had an after market seat and higher windscreen the seat was a Corbin it was hard as, my wife complained abot the wind buffeting when being a passenger, this one seems so much better

      @@SiegfriedsMotorwerx And it seem's my air vents, thost Black Pieces in-front of ur Feet, r turned opposite of most ive seen... and my bike will get warm if i mess around too long in traffic, or a drive thru etc... Get bk on open rd and it comes down quickly... And BTW? What position on the heat gauge is considered Warm/Hot? It's never went past Half way, but the Fan comes on when it get's to just under half way?

    ...& I don't think having a carb bike will be a big deal over efi. If anything that should make it easier to work on if I ever have a problem.

      You can buy some Michelins and they last a long time. I was kinda thinking about going to the dark side and trying regular car tires on the back first.

      I just bought a ‘94 in burgundy, 98,000kms, a real cherry! $750 Canadian, got such a great deal since it had sat under a bike cover for years, unfortunately with ancient gas inside. I tore the carbs apart and just got the fresh gaskets and oil and such.
      I found out after I bought it that the 16” rear wheel is a PITA to find decent modern tires that aren’t a specific set of ok-ish Dunlops (772 or something?) or cruiser tires. But if you want grip, especially in the rain, I was struggling to find decent all around grippy, long-lasting and good for rain tread combos..
      ..BUT!! I found out you can do a pretty simple mod by using a Vulcan/Mean Streak Kawi 17” rear wheel and brake caliper (with a little bit of grinding of the mounting ear for the brake stay and maybe a shortened bolt), and you have a MUCH easier time finding tire pairs for the 17” rear and 18” front!

      Also, for a 7 gallon tank on top, it handles great! Some complained of being tippy when full. But, I never had issues.

    What a Confirmed stranger Definitely obnoxious title ,The accidental Crown King of the new Added on Title Sport tourer ? This is the Inventor of that Overly Over weight pig of a Bike category. Long Before the ST1000, FJ1000 & Absolutely nothing from Suezook. The latter couldn't be bothered with overweight Pig's on wheels. 600lbs of unsprung wet weight is definitely not what I'd want when needing to avoid the Jump or Spring Plung onto & into the Road and Right when you least expect it Bambi is in your face literally. Don't ask me how l know was Piloting a Brand new 1994 CBRF4 CARBED bike and Drop the anchor and smelled the A- Hole of it rear end that's how close l & the bike becoming a on Road road kill super duper Rider.
