I'm not using the same display, but this tutorial was very useful nonetheless; for anyone with an HDMI touchscreen, this is the same process to follow to get Octodash up and running. It was so easy, I got the thing fully operational in like an hour (because I'm a noob when it comes to Linux and changed the default username while flashing Octoprint).
And if anyone is facing a "path not found" error of sorts, just change the default 'pi' username (that Octodash looks for by default) to the username you chose when flashing Octoprint on your SD card.
Dude this video is a godsend! I'm a mentor for my highschool's robotics team and we were having a lot of issues with printing, case and point we built a couple of enclosures for our Ender 3s. This is the perfect solution! Will try next week.
Awesome to hear! Sooo much better than the Ender 3 interface!
Great video Aaron! My RPi 4 still hasn't arrived, so no luck in playing with it. Loved the Pi camera and ability to thread the cable at the bottom of the case!
Thanks! Bummer that Pis are so hard to get! I actually ordered a canakit, pretty much the same price as a pi by itself!
Can't wait to see what you do with it!
I had been running Octodash for about a month and I really missed some of my Octoprint plugins, and thought why cant I have the Octoprint on my touchscreen, well you can by installing a desktop to Octoprint and usung its browser to control Octoprint, but I went another route by using my Pi3 to run Octoprint again and then I dusted off my original Pi and installed Raspian 32 bit to it and attached it to the 7" touchscreen and use the browser to run Octoprint and its much better than Octodash or Octoscreen
Octodash definitely is more limited than octoprint!
Great video. My usb drive in my octoprint died and in the process of reinstalling. Needed some "refresher" and perfect timing on your video. Keep up the good work.
Thanks sir!!
There are alot of cheap touchscreen laptops coming to the market now.
By the time you collect everything listed here, your really close to that price point.
Due to shortages, the RPi is backordered for over a year. Would be nice to see some alternatives that we can actually obtain.
There's a few alternatives that work just as good as a RPi but take a little more effort to setup. The Orange Pi is great and the even cheaper Lebre Le Patato. Both work great with Octoprint, however, I have not tried them with Octodash, yet.
Yeah, I've only ever tried the Pi. I need to start looking at Banana Pi and Orange Pi
I have OctoDash installed on OctoPrint and using a Raspberry Pi 7” touchscreen on a Pi 4b with 4Gb. This is connected to a Creality CR10 with the latest version of the TinyMachines 3D firmware.
For some reason OctoDash is super slow and the touch response is terrible! I have to tap a bunch of times for it to recognize the tap. Is there something I can do to calibrate this 7” touchscreen? And why does it slow Octoaprint down so much? Or perhaps this is an issue integrating with the TM3D firmware?
Any advice or suggestions would be most appreciated!
Hmm, it doesn't slow mine down at all. I really don't know a lot about octodash/print, sorry I can't really help!
@@makeitworktech another user clued me into a change I had to make to a driver name. SSH’ed into the Pi, edited the file and changed the driver name, rebooted. Now the touchscreen works perfectly!
Would this essentially be the same as the Kano computers that came with a pi? I happen to have one and this interface is just what I'm looking for. I have klipper already going on it with octoprint on my pc but want to get this interface installed.
I don't know much about those, but it's probably similar. It's pretty much a screen for a pi
Can we edit octodash to show ETA (estimated time of finish) My dash in the web interface shows it. Anyway wouild like to see it in my lcd touchscreen to know when to schedule the new part to print without turning on pc.
Thanx
I"m not sure, I've never tried editing Octodash
can i use a single screen for multiple printer? i mean displaying multiple printer at the same time
I don't think so, no
Are there any restrictions regarding the resolution?
I do have a very little display attachet to the pi.
I'm not sure on that one, sorry. Did the Octodash docs say anything?
I wonder how this would work with octoprint in a container.
I have no idea! I have zero experience with containers haha
The price tho
Yeah it's a bit much
