there is definitely something up with your 606, the hats aren't supposed to sound like that at all! 606 is my absolute fav drum machine, use it all the time. sounds incredible if you really push the volume on it (saturates really nicely), or if you give it some tasty compression :)
Yes those open high hats especially sound wild! I kinda like the way they sound on his, but they may not always be great on everything. Definitely a unique sound LOL!
@@Pamberjack_I'd say it's more likely that there's a component in the hi hat circuit that is still "working" but is way out of spec due to use & age. A capacitor or op amp maybe...
Money is all relative, so it's hard to say whether "it's worth it" to everyone. Definitely a great analog drum machine for those who can spare the cash. I love the hi hat sounds on that thing, they sound better on the OG than the RD-6.
I'm used to a more "musical" ringing in the hats channel with respect to 606s I've known and loved. Not as buoyantly resonant as the DR110, but much more cheerful than what you've captured here. Still, a delight to see and hear.
Mine is from the 1st revision series. What all units of these should have in common is, that the HiHat and Cymbal oscillators are tuned in different intervals compared to the initial series which i feel makes them sound better.
Been wondering that myself why tr-707 (which is digital) cost more today than tr-606? Perhaps people are mostly interested a solid drum bass and this without the mod can sound bit disappointing. You can still mod it to sound similar to a 808 drum bass if you have some soldering skills.
I had one in the 80s and modded it to have individual drum outputs. We call it "Bam Bam" After not using it for a couple of years I lent it to my father in law. Eventually I asked my (by then ) Ex if I could have it back to be told that he had thrown it away when they moved house! Now I'm playing Brazilian music rhythms. I really wish I had it 😞
I adore the TR-606! I own 4 of them! I did a new jam with 2 TR-606, a TR-707 and a TB-3: ruclips.net/video/kobmBkWJsN4/видео.html I did also a nice jam 7 years ago with my 4 606's! You find it here: ruclips.net/video/sHiYYRg5d-U/видео.html
Wasn’t sure if you question is rhetorical? They are not a bad machine but personally, and I don’t think I’m a minority, I don’t think it sounds anywhere near as good as the 909/808(or even the 707)...I suspect the biggest factor is it just wasn’t used on anywhere near as many famous tracks. As we know, especially the 808, it’s drum sounds practically define a bunch of songs from that era...the 606?......err...nope .
www.perfectcircuit.com/signal/roland-tr606 - Massive Attack. Nine Inch Nails. Blur. Sisters of Mercy. As the article says, 'The Dark Horse of the Drumatix'. :D
I think even with the significant price difference, an Akai MPC One is going better serve beat makers, live performers, and music composers. Roland drum machines are too limited.
Absolutely underrated! Great video! Crazy hats!

@@SacSynths_Jack_Z tbh i am a fan of the crunchy closed hat sound in this vid, very snappy noise bursts
Agreed. Maybe it's the way they were recorded?

I didn't think about this until now, but there needs to be special holidays for producers/DJs.
In this case, it would be today.
found one for 15€ on a flea market!
A keeper!
this and dr 55 carried 80s hometaping scene
what synthesizers are you using in your personal setup? could be a cool video idea :)

You just made my rd6 purchase justified lol

Might have to try pickup a 606 before everyone else does! Still great value
this happened to me I saw one near 700 in my area I was like hey those others are legendary
I already have the Roland Cloud TR-606, and I'm wondering if, in terms of sound, it would bring me something new or different to purchase the TR-06?
I just got one for about $230. In great shape but has a small cigarette burn. Totally worth it.
Cigarette burn. Classy!
I think there’s something wrong with the hi hat circuit in this unit. The hats in mine sound a lot more resonant than the ones in this one.

Does. It work. Without. Ac. Batteries
I like the sound
The 606 is nice enough but I think the DR-110 is the real Roland sleeper.
About Nin closer being a 606 ,it's well known the kick for that was sampled from Iggy pop's 'nightclubbing'
Right. But that hat early in the song is 606
My mannnnn!!!!
That 606 is definitely broken. The hihats do not sound that noisy. They normally sound closer to 808 hihats. 😢😢😢
Good vid
I paid 120 mint condition in box .. like 10 years ago

Get the Elektron Samples... Blows away any vintage/clone drum machine into a top hat. Honestly. Just watch the videos of people doing stuff with them.
did you just demo a broken instrument?

Plenty of famous songs used 606 you tripin
oups something went wrong! op hithat sound really bad! not at all like it should do! or you using multiplies output?

Kick drum sounds too low
A really boring Drummachine but has its place in history (i like it a lot )
🤣first 48 seconds I realized why it’s priced lower
Démos de programmation assez mauvaises ;(
No its not...e.o.d😉
Your unit has diarrhea of the hats. Why did you bother with this?
