Appreciate this fair, honest review highlighting both good and bad points of the new model. As a long time G owner, your comments are particularly valued and instructive. Nice to see a review by an experienced owner that is not drinking the fandom KoolAid.
With the demand of Travado's, Winnebago PROBABLY has gone in full 24/7 production with cheaper, easier manufacturing and products....it certainly is a step down from your van...which I love....thanks again for all the tours at the RV show...I didn't have to get off the couch or miss a golf game...hahaha
So sorry I saw your Van first !! My wife says I compare every one I see to yours!! Can’t find another I like better...... Don’t apologize for your breathing due to mask,we all do the same. Can’t have you getting sick or worse. At least not before I find my new van!! lol Thanks for all you do to keep us informed and sharing your journey!! J.S.
That should just be a separate floor plan that's made available. Changing the G to this is a fail and fills certain demographics. That exhaust near the window is a big no no. Great video Scott.
This layout will cause me to keep looking. I’m aiming to go back to travel nursing in 2022 and was considering a Travato 59GL but with the extra bedding area in the front. If I wanted a rig that sleeps only two adults, It wouldn’t be this new Travato at all. And the new smaller bathroom is a definite negative. These two items (extra sleeping and larger bathroom) were the entire reason I was aiming for the Travato 59GL...So sad about these changes:-( And thank you for the video Scott...It was great like all of your videos.
I believe they were thinking about keeping the cost down after seeing what Jayco did with this same layout for under $100k. They are hoping for a home run on the Ekko for sure. I, for one, don’t believe these two RVs are singing to the same audience. There will always be a determined following for the ultra efficient stealth vans. There are still innovations that can be made in this genre. Disappointed that I’m not seeing any of them here.
Yeah, when doing a Volta Charge On Demand that new design makes one close the window whereas I can to the COD session with the window open as my tailpipe is mid-ship
So glad I have a pre 2022 G. Losing the puzzle bed, the inadequate table, the leg on the bed limits what the garage can carry, the loss of bathroom height, the protruding drawer pulls, the visuals of the murphy bed when up is not appealing, loss of storage under the murphy bed. The cabinets look cheap. The water tank is smaller. Can't imagine what WGO was thinking on this one.
Great summary of issues with the new model. It also appears the new water system requires the back door to be open to use/service/access. - Just crazy unless I'm missing something.
@@stephenbritt6557 nothing was explained to me when I purchased my 2022 GL.no one knew anything about it at the Dealership. (Not good business). I was told, 1. turn the inverter on that's all you need to be concerned about. 2. Turn it off when not in use. What a price to pay!
There are some changes I can get behind but not many. Bright side: I think the resale value of my 2020 GL just went up!!! 😉 Thanks for a great walkthrough!
When I first saw the 2022, I was smitten by the galley and didn't pay attention to the other details, like the location of the water hookups and the smaller dinette/less seating/no 2nd bed. Having really studied it and now seeing that the bathroom height is changed to me it seems like "fixing" the little things of the 2021 and earlier design created more problems than what they tried to fix. Since my husband and I aren't quite ready to purchase yet it means we either have to go with a pre-owned or cross my fingers that they revisit these updates and improve them. Really appreciate how you pointed out the changes and how they may affect day-to-day usage. Had no idea about the shower height until you and 30 and a Wake Up demonstrated it!
It is too bad since most of the "changes" are for the worse no matter how Winnebago "spins it". Was so close to getting a GL because of your use/reviews, but no way now. Winnebago did a good job of making this "cheaper" and the bathroom now is a total turnoff. I could go on but now will seriously consider others. So glad you did this review and did not just order one without seeing it! Most manufacturers come out with new models for "improvements" and not many steps backwards. Winnebago for sure now is way off my list! Thanks Scott!
It's just to bad that they took pretty much the only class b with 2 different sleeping areas and ruined it. Yes the k has 2 beds but the prior G while might not of been practical to sleep 4 unless 2 were kids it could have slept 3 realistically.. or two adults that would like some separate quarters. Was hoping the 2022 would have been more minor changes added features from the national park edition. The old G was definitely a unit I was looking at for a cross country trip with my mom so definitely wanted to be able to have some separate space at night.
I have a Travato 59G, but the new floor plan would not meet my needs. I travel with my adult children and need a second bed. My 6' 2" son would hate bending over in the bathroom the whole time. He worked in the van while I drove, which would not work with the new table setup. My standard poodles ride stapped in behind the driver's seat with the table down. I put padded waterproof crib on all four cushions to protect them from the dog paws, which would not work in new setup. Water, electrical controls, TV, lack of storage... Big NO for me. I would not buy.
This is a terrific walkthrough especially given your extensive experience with the previous model. Now the G is no longer a consideration for our purpose.
I am madly in love with the Ultra Regency ! OMG, I have to stop looking at the RV Shows, it is really messing with my pocket book. That Regency is really something ! Lord have Mercy ! The changes in the Travato do not make me happy at all.
I agree, the design mistakes really negate any improvement made, it's really too bad. Let's hope they're already redesigning for 2023 and beyond! Thank you for the video.
Thanks for another great video. How disappointing. Many of the changes are so bad. They should hire you as a consultant and get some of the issues fixed. :)
Boy, talk about going backwards, this is a train wreck !!!!! Scott yours is SOOOOO much nicer than this mess, and I could never go from yours to this new one, well guess I'll be looking for an old model or a different one all together, because they have changed the front so much and it no longer has the extra bed, which was a one of a kind for a class B van and they just threw it out, also they had the nicest bathroom for class B and chopped it down, what a mistake !!!! Scott thank you for your attention to detail and your knowledge and experience, also love your cooking videos, have watched you from the beginning and I am now a subscriber. Thanks again, take care and be safe.
I always wished the jump seat was not there. I like the openness, easier for dogs and I to get in and out, and I would never use the bed option. Maybe give the option to have jump seat for those that like that option. Love the residential sink and faucet! Scott, congrats on the Volta system contract!!
Jump seats normally fold up. That is why they are jump seats. On an aircraft which they should take a lesson from the jump seats in cockpit for extra rider and jump seats for flight attendants all retract when you stand up. That is what these motorhomes need.
But overall, as someone looking, my focus is pre '22. A couple with a kid...? Seats 4 but sleeps 2 ?? The lost headroom in the shower ?? Scott nailed it by noting that it is not a pump problem; rather, it's a filter problem (viewed a '15 last week where the guy took care of the filter issue).
A BIG NO on the 2022 G!! I had done extensive research, settled and ready to purchase the G floorplan as best for my needs. Just as COVID hit causing the supply issue as we have today, sadly, I am back to square one; researching and what’s available other than WGO models.
'Progress' even though this is 'new' is not necessarily better in my opinion. As a single senior woman, I would prefer a larger bath and I'm only 5'2" so for a tall male this would not be practical, and I would prefer a smaller mattress, thus larger storage in back. And putting all the dials on over the sliding door has eliminated a possible use of storage space/shelf. Thank you for the comparison tour.
I'm not a fan of the living room area - they put in highway-legal seats to carry up to four people but removed the bed so the van only sleeps two. I'd much prefer the bench style seat that the earlier models have. A better work area for us remote workers. TV placement is odd. Better if there was a fold down option between the driver and front passenger seat for it - then you can comfortably watch from the liv room area and bed. Or just remove it and add a spot for a mini projector and a pull screen by windshield. I think the 18 gallon FW tank is the Achilles heal of the Travato. I'd love to see someone magically expand that and add recirc system for the bath sink/shower. And why is the kitchen sink not undermount? So easy to to do.
Looks like changes motivated almost entirely by cost savings. I am considering the purchase of a Class B, and have been evaluating the Travato G versus the RoadTrek Zion. I had been leaning toward the Travato, due to the usefulness of the floor plan. The changes to the 2022 Travato G will greatly reduce its usefulness. According, I’ll probably go for the RoadTrek, with its larger fresh water tank, better storage and longer warranty. Thank you for the video; it is really helpful.
The more I see new models the more I like my 2017 Travato 59G. The only things I like in this model are the cab seats and counter top extension. Thanks for the video Scott!
Greetings Scott, you currently have 2 full years of van life. If you buy again......Which van will you choose? What brand ? What floor layouts? with Lithium batteries ?
Great question Eddie… your question advanced to the VIEWER QUESTION OF THE WEEK to be fully answered on my weekly #vanlife RV show on RUclips Live. Easier to say what my new RV must have… - Volta system - 59G floor plan with some improvements to non-2022 floor plan - open to other brand than Winnebago - no cassette toilet - more tank capacity - less storage - Ram Promaster - more 4-seasonish - rugged, but 4x4 or AWD not necessary What does your dream rig look like ?
I see this rig as a one year model and it’s gone..... JMHO! Perfect for a mini person like myself but looks cheaply made and over priced!!!! Not a fan...but good video Scott!!!!
Scott can you do a video where you install a Pioneer system in the dash of your Travato please! This model can never be as homey as yours. The color of the wood and the grain looks cheap. The dinette has been ruined. Looks like race car bucket seats, can't sit in the middle at all. Does your model really have a kitchen window where if you leave it open the sliding door would hit it? Ouch that seems crazy. Really like that they removed the outside speakers that was so 1980's. Is there no Jensen in the new model? It really is not needed. In our K the speakers are so awful so we use a Sony Bluetooth speaker. We pull out the TV and set it on top and that works great. Thanks for being at the RV show we miss them so much.
One thing I noticed... it seems the new location for water inlets means you have to have your back door open to fill tanks. Is that correct? Not a fan of that. Also, if you notice at 14:38, their brochure seems to show the drivers seat turned around so the table can be used. So I guess if you need a table, you are required to turn the drivers seat? Wouldn't this mean passengers couldn't use the table if you are driving? Be seeing you!
yes on the water. Lagune table can be used by spinning seat around or using the provided “bench” seats. Buy another Lagune table for two tables i guess to seat more people at a table.
I'm not jumping about this one. I'm a bit disappointed. Don't you sometimes wonder if the designers ever really use the vehicles for camping? Good job wearing the mask. Thanks for sharing.
Definitely made some nice improvements but at a cost of taking away some of the features I like. Did they not have a GL version there? Bottom line I would not by the new Travato. Not sure I would recommend it to people
No Volta (Pure3) GL at the show. They did have the existing 59G floor plan right next to the 2022 G... the differences were dramatic stepping into one and then the other. Understand on you not wanting to recommend
There are a few changes we like but definitely prefer the 2021. We are lucky. Getting one of the last 2021 GLs delivered next month and it will be on the 2021 Promaster Chassis.
We will be picking up our 2023 59 G in about a week. We purposely waited for the major upgrade : 9 speed automatic transmission, keyless entry and start, electronic steering ( no hydraulic), sensors and camera's throughout the rig, Sumo springs standard, new front end look. Its supposed to get up to 23 MPG now with the new tranny.
As far as i'm concerned they blew it, i was considering a new 59g, not now, it will be a used one for me or a different brand, i can't believe what they did to the galley and bathroom
Excellent review. You confirmed what I did not like about the 2022 and pointed out a few things I did not know. If I buy a Travato it will be a used pre 2022. The loss of the big table and those automotive seats kills it for me.
I just lost interest in GL and it was my favorite. I love your van, and your front lounge is better. I’m too tall for that bathroom, too. You would think they would improve every year. Thank you for sharing!
There certainly are some improvements, one one of the biggest in my opinion being the recirculating hot water, I also like the included bar under the new bed for making an outdoor shower area between the two open back doors. The regressions that you point out, however, ultimately make this a much less attractive model. The bathroom actually seems unpleasant to me now, given that anyone over roughly 5'8" is going to be hunched.
Irony isn’t it Ryan one of the best new features is the recirc hot water, that one won’t use because average Joe or Sue can’t stand up to shower! Thx for sharing
They built a class B van for class B drivers. Maybe they will have one of those cartoon characters cutouts like at the amusement park. If you’re taller than me, this ride’s not for you.
I think this new G floor plan is a miss for winnebago. Too bad, because the fan base was growing exponentially with the old version. Looks like they made decisions/choices based on cost savings measures on materials and to simplify production. 😕
Nope, nope, nope. A swing and a miss! Scott, did you sit in those jump seat things? I have not seen any reviews speaking about the comfort level of those. Thanks for posting! Give Luke a pet and a hug please!
Can't believe there solution to the shower drain filter was to raise the floor, so short sited! Now even less storage in cabinets under the bed, that is terrible - storage is critical in a B van. Lighter bed is good, less weight is always better. Towel bar behind the toilet is nice. Most gauges should be hidden, not needed regularly. Ultimately, the G floor model no longer works for me, I want a second sleeping area when needed.
Not sold yet. Saving grace for us is that we are a smaller couple, I’m 5’6” 150 and my spouse 5’2” and 115. Considering that, the bath and bed are ok. The big but is the loss of the front bed for a third person. We want to be able to travel with grand children. So we are forced to look at the Solis as an option. Perhaps that was the reason they felt these changes would not adversely affect overall sales of the product line.
That faucet looks nice, but it can be a real pain. The horizontal part likes to hold water then drip it out while you are driving (2020 Coachmen Beyond). I had anti-freeze dripping onto my sink cover 6 weeks after I winterized.
I realize it's not ideal but you can probably buy some kind of rubber plug to stop the faucet while you drive. Not ideal but a problem that would quickly become a non-issue and not significantly impact usability of the van. I personally am super disappointed in the 2022 GL, would not buy. I am planning way ahead though, do not intend to buy any RV until 4 or 5 years from now when my kids are in college. I am praying that by that time, good sense will have returned to Winnebago and the GL will be as good or better than it was pre-2022.
I have that style sink in my WGO View bathroom...that shape does not drain well. The black plastic connection in the wet bay is the black tank flush. Thanks for this thorough tour!
I totally dislike the 2022 Travato G. I was not a fan if the original bathroom and the new smaller bathroom is NOT doable. I do not like the bed configuration it makes getting sheets that fit well impossible unless you have them special made. More unnecessary dollars. Also if you have to replace the mattress that will be a high dollar expense. The airplane seats are stupid ugly and would be one of the first things I would replace and the table mounting is too awkward to be usable. Also the TV is a hazard where it is placed, I would either knock out an eye or smash the screen in no time. I would remove it entirely. Other than that I perfer your configuration.
You showed the water connections INSIDE the back door, but didn’t say how they get the hoses up in side the van while the doors or closed ! How the heck does that work ?!
I think they are going Cheap cutting corners it’s interesting some of us are in the plus size and Winnebago is going smaller and smaller I think Winnebago is focusing more on their more expensive models and is letting the Travato die as I said a million times no innovation no imagination ... I’ve been looking at a RUclips Channel that shows off the European models and they are SOOOO different and cooler .. We are on the hunt of a B van and it’s not going to be Winnebago that’s for sure .. Great videos Scott as always and thank you for looking out and using a mask it sucks but safety first..
The European models are light years ahead of ours! That's why I snagged a Hymer Aktiv - best quality B class van on the market but sadly US operation died out (but I hear it's being resurrected as Hymer USA out of Indiana while maintaining German built quality)
Thanks for the walkthrough. Travota was on my shortlist but not anymore. So many things wrong with the new design. They are going cheap with the new design. Nothing is innovative about this rig. Bathroom is horrible, dinette area is a downgrade. Coachman have a much better quality class B just my opinion. Seems like more for less in term of cost. Cost more for less lol
@@gosmall.livelarge definitely a downgrade from your rig. Does the 2022 cost more? They need to drop the price down to 100k. Out the door 85k then I would consider. Wishing thinking but no way I would pay the over 100k for this rig.
Hi Scott - do you know if the awning dual pane windows can be installed after market? Just wondering. I'm torn between getting a lithium travato or a regular one. I won't be full time, but will need ac and ability to use an instant pot from time to time while boondocking.
Probably can do an aftermarket on the windows, but I don’t have experience with it. And am guessing it would be pricey. Lithium is so freeing from noise, vibration, and giving away your position compared to a generator. Resales value likely to be much higher with lithium equipped rig.
We looked for a few minutes at the KL but I’m too tall to drive it. My knees are in the dash. What you pointed out jut makes me scratch my head as to why they made those 🤷🏼♂️ stay safe ✌🏼
My puzzle bed is the best guestroom ever not to mention an excellent gathering spot for cards. Without that and the roomy, wonderful bathroom, the new G is not a winner! Love my 2017! When the time comes for a new B, it won't be this one. Thanks for the tour.
I think it's great for a solo traveler under 5' 10" I would love it, I absolutely hate Dinette and Booths in RVs they are just uncomfortable and constricting. The older G was way to claustrophobic, no room to move at all. I Love the new seats and that table moves around, and it looks much more OPEN now. The Kitchen is GREAT, I'm wondering about the comfort level of the bed with out the plastic springs. The only thing I don't like is the squared off cabinets and same CRAPPY display and dash for GPS and Stereo. Wish Van company's would spend more time enhancing and quieting down the cab with more comfortable seats because most of us that have Van's love to DRIVE ALOT. Makes no sense how such an expensive van has a cab that reminds me of a UHAUL truck with the high and uncomfortable seats and noise level in the cab when driving. They need to come out with a TOURING VAN that drives GREAT, COMFORTABLE, Less road noise and update the 1980 Dashboard! They don't know their audience, they keep putting ridiculous BFG K02 tractor tires on a VAN that has water tanks 6" of the ground! It's just all for looks! Try going off road with Van and rip all your tanks off! They need to think of these Van's as Comfort TOURING Van's with some light driving into some basic dirt or gravel roads and if people want to UPGRADE Tires put on Michelin Cross Climate All Terrain, instead of ridiculous BFG KO2s for looks only, that rid har and loud and are not even supposed to be put on a VAN. I have a 2021 National Park and took those ridiculous tires ( BFG KO2s) come with it. I couldn't stand 1 week driving with them, the van drove awful and the noise level was even worse!! Swapped them out for Michelin AGILIS Cross Climate, it drove 100 times better , less noise and better gas mileage and they have great thread and grip in the road. I'm very happy with the new changes , it just seems like Winnebago is not doing their MARKET RESEARCH to find out who , what and why are people choosing these Vans and have options to and floorplans to cater to the specific customers. Just being LAZY, and that means there are plenty other company's that are on WINNEBAGOS HEELS, and they can and will get surpassed by a company who caters to the needs of their customers.
I so wanted the 2020 layout with the two bed design with the ultra quiet onan generator & larger frig. They lost me as a customer. Nothing like “improving” a design to the point it doesn’t sell as well. Not to mention all of the connections behind a closed/locked door.
Thanks for the walk thru, not liking the new layout either. No awning windows is a huge loss and slat beds are horrible to sleep on if you have any back issues which most people do.
Hello, just curious. As of today, what would be your choice for your next RV? Don’t include the possibility of company brand sponsorship. Your honest choice! I might not get an honest answer since you’re sponsored by Embassy. Or you’re going to play it safe and say I’m going to be staying with the one I have.
Playing it safe. No other floor plans meets my needs as close as the Travato 59G. The Panoramic out of Canada 🇨🇦 looks interesting. Coachmen and Embassy RV are awesome, but wrong floor plan. Storyteller is cool but no real bathroom = deal killer. Would not buy the new 2022 Travato 59G as they destroyed the functionality of the G floor plan. What RV is on your list?
@@gosmall.livelarge Thank you for your reply. I’m trying to decide between the Storyteller and 2022 Travato 59KL. The storyteller is cool with great resale value, but the Travato fits more my needs as I am a city/suburbs stealth camper daily. Both have the huge Volta lithium system. Everyone is getting overly excited about the storyteller but it’s only been out really one year with no track record of issues and performance. I just can’t get myself to like the promaster chassis (I might have to settle and live with the shitty Promaster), I drove a Travato NPF two years ago, it sucked !!!! Slow as a snail. I really don’t like the diesel-my parents had a diesel MB car with many issues, plus I heard the storyteller was slow on the highway when loaded up with gear, fuel, water, humans, etc. I wish Winnebago made the Travato on the Ford transit eco boost. Considered the coachman beyond LI3 but not enough lithium for me.
Big miss! Uncomfortable seats in dining area, can't see TV from those seats, limited headroom in shower, can't stay connected to city water without leaving the back door open, reduced storage.
I was never a fan of the G mostly because of the small bed. It kind of filled a niche though for a solo traveler. In my opinion by trying to fix a few perceived problems they made it worse. When people step into that wet bath they will be instantly turned off. I predict sales will drop and wbgo will regret the changes.
If someone is in a campground and they want to be hooked up to water, do they have to keep the back door open all the time??? I do not live in a van, but it looks like storage in that van is very skimpy, even for a class B. If I could not stand up straight in the shower or take a pee, that is a big problem and deal killer. Overall, I do not know I would feel comfortable in the new G style. If I were to go with a Travato, I would probably choose the K model or a different brand of class B. Thank you.
I love ALL changes. Could use a softer bench seat up front but...I'll take it. I prefer the extra floor space at side door, as there is no garage space wide enough for me to utilize. Bthrm floor was raised to fix drain issue. I suppose I can get by with the payoff if that's fixed now. Bed is lighter, has a foot step. Shelves in closet. TV moved for more viewing angles, a plus. Like the larger kitchen window. All in all, I think it was some good stuff. Curtain rod for back door, nice. They listened to previous owners.
Why would you put your city water and black tank flush inside your rig? Can not use it if it’s raining outside. Taking a hot long shower is now a security risk because the door needs to be open. And the bathroom… failure guys. Want to fix this. Put the water ports under the rig so you can hide them. Little inconvenient, but then they're hidden. Take this back to the drawing board and fix it. And stop cheaping out. Your fans and want to be’s are watching.
All (No)WIN accomplished was to drive up the value of previous year Travato's! They pulled the same thing with the "Class A" Skinny Winnies (Via and Reyo) by eliminating the dual pane windows. That was a deal breaker for me. Time to check out the Coachmen NOVA!
Unfortunately this takes the Travato off my list. The biggest loss is the extra bed followed by the much less useful work area. They made a lot of mistakes.
These changes are terrible! Glad I got my G before they removed the jump seat. The Travato seems more of a weekend unit now instead of a full time option.
Looks like 2020 might be the one for me. I cant lose that shoulder space or head room for the bathroom. That bed leg is gonna break a few toes.. wtf were they thinking with that.. lol
I think the accountant made decisions on this one rather than engineers. It seems to be cheapened. I understand the drain issue with the shower and raising it which can still work for shorter people but making it narrower to gain bed width is a controversial decision. A 2022 model in January 2021? Maybe we can look forward to the 2023 version in the fall! I’m not really a fan of this one.
Does the floor inside the rear door have a hole to allow the water hose to enter the coach without leaving the rear door open? I don't like that both the engine exhaust and genny exhaust are directly under the driver side windows. That is a hazard. Don't like the new drawer handles. They stick out in a narrow aisle. Something to get caught on. The bathroom height is terrible.
Definitely do not like the water fill change(how do you connect when at campground or boondocking without having back door open) and bathroom smaller is no go. Bed change is OK, but not at expense of bath. Our 2016 G is more livable. And I think has more storage possibly.
It’s very nice looking! I’m ok without the jump seat, no carpet in the cabinets is also really ok to me-I think the carpet in the cabinets is cheesy looking and that finish is cheap-looking to me, the bathroom looks good...I like the bathroom sink. I would consider this van !!
good to know.. you are in the minority, but one needs to choose the floor plan that best suits how they RV... which is determined by WHY they want to RV..
Great observations. That dinette table is a real flub. WGO is converting everything to the cheap cabinets that originated in the Solis. Thought it was a cost cutting thing just for the Solis but guess not.
Appreciate this fair, honest review highlighting both good and bad points of the new model. As a long time G owner, your comments are particularly valued and instructive. Nice to see a review by an experienced owner that is not drinking the fandom KoolAid.
Fair enough Roger!!! Like many, I want to see the 59G flourish in a see of me-too K-style floor plans.
Glad you didn’t miss a golf 🏌️ game !!

I agree 100%
This layout will cause me to keep looking. I’m aiming to go back to travel nursing in 2022 and was considering a Travato 59GL but with the extra bedding area in the front. If I wanted a rig that sleeps only two adults, It wouldn’t be this new Travato at all. And the new smaller bathroom is a definite negative. These two items (extra sleeping and larger bathroom) were the entire reason I was aiming for the Travato 59GL...So sad about these changes:-( And thank you for the video Scott...It was great like all of your videos.
Thanks for that N & J
I really don't understand why vendors take a good thing and make it worse not better.
It is a curiousity
Cutting cost and increasing the bottom line.
It's always to save money. Always.
Winnebago REALLY messed this one up. Boooo, hisss! They better go back to the drawing board.
Hope WGO is taking your feedback BobbyJ
Good day from Godley Texas,
My only comment is, What in heck were the designers thinking? 😞😞😞
GODLEY TX. !! I’m scratching my head too
I believe they were thinking about keeping the cost down after seeing what Jayco did with this same layout for under $100k. They are hoping for a home run on the Ekko for sure. I, for one, don’t believe these two RVs are singing to the same audience. There will always be a determined following for the ultra efficient stealth vans. There are still innovations that can be made in this genre. Disappointed that I’m not seeing any of them here.
Usually try to look at the bright side but I’m having trouble finding it...
Me too... hate raining this parade but have to keep it real
Looks like a cheap knock off of the "original" T's. Who thought of putting an exhaust fan under a window? Darwin award.
Thx Diane
Great summary of issues with the new model. It also appears the new water system requires the back door to be open to use/service/access. - Just crazy unless I'm missing something.

There are some changes I can get behind but not many. Bright side: I think the resale value of my 2020 GL just went up!!! 😉 Thanks for a great walkthrough!
My Travato GL sister! Thanks for chiming in! Word on resale value increase !
Had no idea about the shower height until you and 30 and a Wake Up demonstrated it!
good points you make
Please remind me what year gl you have. I guess I want to stick to pre-2022 🙁 Thanks for checking this out for all of us!!!
hey Michael… my Travato GL is 2019 Winnebago build out on a 2018 Promaster chassis.. Thanks for watching !!
Happy it helped you out
I have a Travato 59G, but the new floor plan would not meet my needs.
Meeting once’s needs is what a proper floor plan is all about
This is a terrific walkthrough especially given your extensive experience with the previous model. Now the G is no longer a consideration for our purpose.
Yeah, hopefully they will make some different decisions at WGO.. Thanks for sharing
I am madly in love with the Ultra Regency ! OMG, I have to stop looking at the RV Shows, it is really messing with my pocket book. That Regency is really something ! Lord have Mercy ! The changes in the Travato do not make me happy at all.
Regency is nice!
The Regency is nice, but it is not for the same person as the G. It is border line off topic.
I agree, the design mistakes really negate any improvement made, it's really too bad. Let's hope they're already redesigning for 2023 and beyond! Thank you for the video.
I like your thinking
Thanks for another great video. How disappointing. Many of the changes are so bad. They should hire you as a consultant and get some of the issues fixed. :)
I totally agree! love that idea ! Dear Winnebago... will work for food!
Welcome S Turner to becoming a subscriber. I appreciate that, and your comments
I always wished the jump seat was not there. I like the openness, easier for dogs and I to get in and out, and I would never use the bed option. Maybe give the option to have jump seat for those that like that option. Love the residential sink and faucet! Scott, congrats on the Volta system contract!!
Fair enough!
Jump seats normally fold up. That is why they are jump seats. On an aircraft which they should take a lesson from the jump seats in cockpit for extra rider and jump seats for flight attendants all retract when you stand up. That is what these motorhomes need.
@@DAVIDTATLITUG damn good point. It makes sense to match up with those new dinette seats which remind me of a Southwest plane. ;)
Wow! Thx for sharing Sue. yeah, I hope WGO reconsiders their “enhancements” to the 2022 59G.
GLAD IT HELPED!
Without the puzzle bed it's a no-go for me.
thx for sharing
Thanks Sir Scott for the review. You were very soft with your remarks on the changes Winnebago has made.
Less soft video coming up!
I was noticing that 18 gallons too. The one thing that desperately needs boosting went untouched.
GOOD POINTS
Looks like changes motivated almost entirely by cost savings. I am considering the purchase of a Class B, and have been evaluating the Travato G versus the RoadTrek Zion. I had been leaning toward the Travato, due to the usefulness of the floor plan. The changes to the 2022 Travato G will greatly reduce its usefulness. According, I’ll probably go for the RoadTrek, with its larger fresh water tank, better storage and longer warranty. Thank you for the video; it is really helpful.
Good to know!
It was nice to hear your views since you have one you live in.
Thx Cindy!
I always like your honest unbiased opinion !
Thx EP… trying to keep it real.
So you have to keep your back door open if you wanna stay plugged into the cable add an RV place.
Someone didn’t think that through. Hope they figure that out before they actually start selling these.
Also have to keep the door open to fill the water tank. That’s nuts.
I think there is a cable TV coax on the patio side
Some of the things need reconsidering IMHO
@@gosmall.livelarge I believe that's just for output and the input is on the panel in the back by the water.
The more I see new models the more I like my 2017 Travato 59G. The only things I like in this model are the cab seats and counter top extension.
Thanks for the video Scott!
Thanks for sharing!
Easier to say what my new RV must have…
- Volta system
- 59G floor plan with some improvements to non-2022 floor plan
- open to other brand than Winnebago
- no cassette toilet
- more tank capacity
- less storage
- Ram Promaster
- more 4-seasonish
- rugged, but 4x4 or AWD not necessary
What does your dream rig look like ?
I recently placed an order on Thor Sequence A20 with pop-top, and solar panel.......hope to see you soon after June!
I see this rig as a one year model and it’s gone..... JMHO! Perfect for a mini person like myself but looks cheaply made and over priced!!!! Not a fan...but good video Scott!!!!
Right on
Why don’t they put in jump seats that are removable.
Totally agree and DUH aren’t there pretty decent 3 point seats that convert to sleeper?
On a track system- movable &removable
Interesting M B
Hi TCC... no plans to modify the chassis dash with alarm systems nor stereos. Thx for comments
Good question!
So glad I ordered 2021 and did not wait and order 2022! Loss of second bed, shorter/smaller shower, less storage. What were they thinking?
So excited about your new Travato!
@@gosmall.livelarge Very patiently waiting. Ordered in October schuled to arrive in March. Learning so much from this channel!
Getting one of the last 2021 GLs delivered next month and it will be on the 2021 Promaster Chassis.
soooo excited for you!
Great job !
As far as i'm concerned they blew it, i was considering a new 59g, not now, it will be a used one for me or a different brand, i can't believe what they did to the galley and bathroom
Good to know
Excellent review. You confirmed what I did not like about the 2022 and pointed out a few things I did not know. If I buy a Travato it will be a used pre 2022. The loss of the big table and those automotive seats kills it for me.
Great points
I just lost interest in GL and it was my favorite. I love your van, and your front lounge is better. I’m too tall for that bathroom, too. You would think they would improve every year. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Laura for sharing
Seems like a lot of downgrade from your unit. Thanks for the walkthrough.
You bet
I also like the back door window covers and the pull strap on the back door for easy opening. I don't like the smaller bathroom.
Those are nice improvements for sure!
I think this new G floor plan is a miss for winnebago. Too bad, because the fan base was growing exponentially with the old version. Looks like they made decisions/choices based on cost savings measures on materials and to simplify production. 😕
You might be right on those points
Nope, nope, nope. A swing and a miss! Scott, did you sit in those jump seat things? I have not seen any reviews speaking about the comfort level of those. Thanks for posting! Give Luke a pet and a hug please!
I thought I mentioned in the video, maybe not, so many RVs... bottom line the seats are quite firm. Reminded me of an airplane seat.
Ultimately, the G floor model no longer works for me, I want a second sleeping area when needed.
speaking my language !
Looks like the changes were made to speed up construction and assembly time. really a downgrade
Thx Ken
They need to step it up with cassette toilet and dometic burner for LP. Also need to bring back 3rd bed in front and just keep the seatbelts
With you on the 2nd bed and seatbelts
Not sold yet. Saving grace for us is that we are a smaller couple, I’m 5’6” 150 and my spouse 5’2” and 115. Considering that, the bath and bed are ok. The big but is the loss of the front bed for a third person. We want to be able to travel with grand children. So we are forced to look at the Solis as an option. Perhaps that was the reason they felt these changes would not adversely affect overall sales of the product line.
Thx Tom !
Yikes... thx for sharing
@@zantetsu8674 you’re correct...it’s an irritant, not a deal breaker.
I have that style sink in my WGO View bathroom...that shape does not drain well. The black plastic connection in the wet bay is the black tank flush. Thanks for this thorough tour!
You are welcome
Great comments Sharon.
Good review...glad to see a real comparison of the changes from an owner of an older one. That bathroom height issue is a big deal.
Glad it was helpful!
You showed the water connections INSIDE the back door, but didn’t say how they get the hoses up in side the van while the doors or closed !
How the heck does that work ?!
without a inlet through the floor that I noticed to thread hoses through I think one opens the door to fill the tank, disconnect, and close the door.
Yikes
@@gosmall.livelarge hey Scott good evening Look up the RUclips Channel The German Channel and you’ll c what I’m talking about
Fantastic video! I actually have similar thoughts on the bad things I don't like about this new model. Thanks!!
Glad to help!
Are you planning on doing anymore Embassy van videos?
Yes Jane! Thanks for asking about my paid partner, Embassy RV. We are working on our content plan. Stay tuned
Cost more for less lol
sorta have to agree with your points. Coachmen is a beauty
@@gosmall.livelarge definitely a downgrade from your rig. Does the 2022 cost more? They need to drop the price down to 100k. Out the door 85k then I would consider. Wishing thinking but no way I would pay the over 100k for this rig.
@@gosmall.livelarge when is your coachmen beyond walkthrough going live?
Hi Scott - do you know if the awning dual pane windows can be installed after market? Just wondering. I'm torn between getting a lithium travato or a regular one. I won't be full time, but will need ac and ability to use an instant pot from time to time while boondocking.
Probably can do an aftermarket on the windows, but I don’t have experience with it. And am guessing it would be pricey. Lithium is so freeing from noise, vibration, and giving away your position compared to a generator. Resales value likely to be much higher with lithium equipped rig.
Wow! They sure have went up in price. I believe the 59GL is close to $180,000 now!
On the MSRP, yes.
We looked for a few minutes at the KL but I’m too tall to drive it. My knees are in the dash. What you pointed out jut makes me scratch my head as to why they made those 🤷🏼♂️ stay safe ✌🏼
Thx T S M
It’s the same everywhere, in order to cut costs they need to cut quality. Another way to hide inflation costs.
thx Ben!
My puzzle bed is the best guestroom ever not to mention an excellent gathering spot for cards. Without that and the roomy, wonderful bathroom, the new G is not a winner! Love my 2017! When the time comes for a new B, it won't be this one. Thanks for the tour.
Thanks for sharing Nancy
I was looking at the 59GL for me and my wife. The changes have squelched that notion. I guess that “progress is not always for the best!”
yes many changes, not awesome
I think it's great for a solo traveler under 5' 10"
I would love it, I absolutely hate Dinette and Booths in RVs they are just uncomfortable and constricting.
I'm very happy with the new changes , it just seems like
Winnebago is not doing their MARKET RESEARCH to find out who , what and why are people choosing these Vans and have options to and floorplans to cater to the specific customers. Just being LAZY, and that means there are plenty other company's that are on WINNEBAGOS HEELS, and they can and will get surpassed by a company who caters to the needs of their customers.
Thx Kelley. Definitely more open
is @@judybrasher6286 a short, skinny friends or a dog! lol
I so wanted the 2020 layout with the two bed design with the ultra quiet onan generator & larger frig. They lost me as a customer. Nothing like “improving” a design to the point it doesn’t sell as well. Not to mention all of the connections behind a closed/locked door.
yeah, they made some missteps for sure.
Thanks for the walk thru, not liking the new layout either. No awning windows is a huge loss and slat beds are horrible to sleep on if you have any back issues which most people do.
Awning windows are an option Melissa. One I highly recommend!
The bathroom situation makes the headroom even worse for me. I thought this was a dumb "upgrade" the moment I saw the Winnebago video announcing this.
agree with you
I like the manual door pulls. I wish they were the W branded. It would be a nice Easter egg.
cool, except a snag hazard on the lower drawers
If they wanted to make some worthwhile changes, try bigger holding tanks.
Truth... less storage and more tank capacity would be nice.
We just ordered the ekko we think it would make a great rv for you guys to love your videos
Wow!!! So excited for you !
Big miss! Uncomfortable seats in dining area, can't see TV from those seats, limited headroom in shower, can't stay connected to city water without leaving the back door open, reduced storage.
You nailed some of the negatives!
Hopefully the reconsider some of the “improvements” before sales tank.
This new layout would not work for us. We love our 2019 GL
With you!
Thank you.
You make good points. and I think you are right on the water needing cargo door open
Regression with a larger price! So Sad!
thx Larry
Too bad I preordered it last summer with a 5k non-refundable deposite. How hard is it to modify adding a front bed with a sturdy table ?
good question that I cannot answer. 2022 model so vastly diff than the previous with many deficiencies in many minds. Excted you made a move forward!
I think it was marketed to make this one so unusable that you would be more likely to by the EKKO at a much high price.
Ahhh... Ekko marketing plan, reduce the usability of the Travato !
Glad to see the changes work well for your style of RVing Linda.. Appreicate you commenting
Your older Travato is so much better than this new model , what was Winnebago thinking ??
Right?!
Well said Dan !!
All (No)WIN accomplished was to drive up the value of previous year Travato's!
They pulled the same thing with the "Class A" Skinny Winnies (Via and Reyo) by eliminating the dual pane windows. That was a deal breaker for me.
Time to check out the Coachmen NOVA!
yes!
Looks like they cheaped it down to hit a price point. Also, it would help if you sat on the toilet just to give an idea of space
Thx... meausrements in a different 59G video coming..
Unfortunately this takes the Travato off my list. The biggest loss is the extra bed followed by the much less useful work area. They made a lot of mistakes.
Patrick, Thanks for sharing!
so now you can bring 2 people with you that have no place to eat or sleep. horrible
LOL... WORSE is bring 4 people with you but only sleep 1... AND everyone has to use a public toilet facility because !
These changes are terrible! Glad I got my G before they removed the jump seat. The Travato seems more of a weekend unit now instead of a full time option.
With you Willow. Don’t have to be full-time for get a rich, full RV experience. IMHO, the changes to the floor really lessened the overall 59G.
I do agree with you on the negatives. My guess is that this design will not last the model year. That shower height was a Huge miss by W...
I hope you are right
Looks like 2020 might be the one for me. I cant lose that shoulder space or head room for the bathroom. That bed leg is gonna break a few toes.. wtf were they thinking with that..
lol
I think you’re right !
With your line of thinking, 2023 can’t get here soon enough!
This looks like step back in most design, function, and quality elements.
I have to agree with you
Does the floor inside the rear door have a hole to allow the water hose to enter the coach without leaving the rear door open? I don't like that both the engine exhaust and genny exhaust are directly under the driver side windows. That is a hazard. Don't like the new drawer handles. They stick out in a narrow aisle. Something to get caught on. The bathroom height is terrible.
No way to connect hoses that I could find other than opening BOTH cargo doors. Great catch on the cabinets handle as a serious snag hazard
Definitely do not like the water fill change(how do you connect when at campground or boondocking without having back door open) and bathroom smaller is no go. Bed change is OK, but not at expense of bath. Our 2016 G is more livable. And I think has more storage possibly.
Thx Don
Thx Doug!
