      @@majstealth Dairy cows, and yes...just because an animal may end up as a part of the food chain doent mean they don't deserve to be treated as well as possible with the upmost humanity....I personally wouldn't want to eat steer that are maltreated or neglected with all sorts of sicknesses and whatnot.

    • @earlinejackson8151
      @earlinejackson8151 2 года назад +11

      @@topfacemod it’s a matter of practicality too. The majority of people (in the USA) are used to eating ‘feed lot’ cattle. These animals are kept in miserable conditions and, just prior to the slaughter, are treated in a manner guaranteed to terrify them, kicking them into ‘fight or flight’ mode, triggering all the adrenaline in them to run rampant through their bodies, which actually makes the meat taste rank. But the people have become so used to it, they don’t know anything else. My grandparents slaughtered a steer every fall. But he was always treated well, fed well, saw a vet when needed, and was happily eating grass, when a large caliber round went through his brain, from a pretty good distance, without him ever seeing a person, or anything to frighten him. The resulting meat was aged properly and when finally used was totally different from grocery store meats. Because the steer was not frightened or even anxious when he died.

    I grew up in a farming family working a small dairyfarm in Pennsylvania. Most people think of cows as dull, unintelligent animals, and the huge industrial dairies treat them as little more than drones. But seeing how friendly, social and intelligent these well cared for cattle are sets the record straight. You can see how healthy and happy they are by how they interact with humans. I think it’s amazing that even though it was only a minor problem, you traveled all the way to Tom’s just to help him & I bet that bull is so thankful for what you did for him. I love at the end were you have all the girls (cows) loving on you. Keep up the awesome work that you & Craigh do, I love to watch your channel 😃👍🏻

      I can't get over how much Mushy Manure these cattle have over their hooves, not just this day but numerous days. The weather maybe the cause or bad housekeeping or are the cattle keep in pens most of the time or free range.....

    I’m happy for you that you got a chance to catch up with your “acquaintance” (🤣🤣), as well as get to see all the hard work Tom and his family have put into the improvements for the cows in the new shed. Sometimes, having an “easy” day where you can simply do a few feet, visit with friends, and then find that someone valued your advice to the point of investing in equipment to benefit their precious herd, that must be tremendously rewarding. But, then to simply take a moment of time to enjoy the lovely cows/ladies - the very reasons why you are in the business you are in - this is what must make a “good day” into a “Tremendously Great Day.” Bravo and congratulations

    Be more like Tom and be kind to your animals, especially the ones we don’t think of as pets but we are happy to get our food from. Lovely seeing the Jerseys. That’s where I’m from. The Highlands are beautiful too. Very sweet while they’re being good🤓 Great video. Hi from Brisbane👋

    You know, I do enjoy (well, for various definitions of "enjoy") the problematic hoof trims, but I also REALLY enjoy seeing the community of farmers and hoof trimmers supporting each other.
    Hoof GP and Tom Pemberton are two of my favorite channels on YT, so it's always a delight when they get together - even when it's not a "dramatic" hoof trim LOL
    Best blessings from Virginia, and keep up the joyous and loving care of the cows

      The odds of having a “dramatic “ hoof trim on Tom’s are fairly slim. Between him and his trimmer they catch stuff early.

    I absolutely love Highland cattle. I fell in love with them while watching Swedish Homestead on RUclips. Yes they can be temperamental and the bulls can be very defensive but in general they're awesome. Not so much for milk but definitely meaty animals. You are truly living the life. I'm of Scottish descent and hope to come there one day and maybe relocate if I enjoy it as much as I think I would

    So I remember my dad driving us in the backwoods of who knows where Oregon and there was half wooly mammoth half Texas long horn in the middle of the road staring at us. It eventually stomped at us and my dad decided it was best not explain to the rental company how holes were punched in the side. So we went back the way we came. 20 some odd years later I finally saw a poster of cattle and it showed a highland. I was so happy that we weren't crazy. ha ha. Because of that, I have liked them ever sense I learned they really did exist.

    Really looking forward to watching Tom's video of this day as well! Also you mentioned that it's "not the content we came for" but we come here for you, Craig and the cows! I honestly hate it when a cow has toe necrosis and its really sad. We come here to watch you trim. I do like it when you show before and afters, and it is educational when you talk about what you are going to do to help and why you are going to do it. Thank you for your continued posts and videos!

    They really are such a pretty breed of cattle and I just adore them.
    I was unlucky enough to get caught in a small stampede of longhorns while on horseback in Texas and it was terrifying but magnificent at the same time. Luckily no animals or people got hurt but the beauty of them in full motion was a sight I have never forgotten
