- The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) contracted Wind Decommissioning Service, LLC (Wind Decom) who then, in turn, contracted with Controlled Demolition, Inc. (CDI) to assist them in the energetic felling of a redundant 78-meter wind turbine unit that failed to reliably deliver power to the community and Casino facility at Mystic Lake.
CDI's energetic felling method was selected over crane dismantling to eliminate risk of personnel working at high elevations for an extended period, or the risks associated with mechanical tripping with cables that would have put demolition personnel and guests at the adjacent SMSC golf facility at risk from premature collapse, breaking cables, and fly of debris upon impact of the Unit at grade.
CDI prepared the unit for felling in less than five (5) hours the afternoon of June 20, 2022, placed a small quantity of explosives the morning of June 21st, and felled the unit in ten (10) seconds within a 30-minute security window. There was no damage to the golf course infrastructure or interruption of service from the Casino switchyard located less than 100’ from the base of the wind turbine unit. There was no need to evacuate residential properties as close as 970’ away.

Good demolition skill. No trees were harmed
We like trees.
Nicely done as usual. There goes your 'renewable' energy, if any wind.
That was friggen MINT!
Impressive job. They dropped the whole turbine and didn’t so much as scratch the trees around it.
Looks sustainable to me.
and off to the landfill it goes 😮
landscape looks more beautiful with that eyesore gone :Dxxxx
it's just down the road from our local amusement park, Valleyfair... plus it's right next to an astonishingly gaudy casino complex, and right down the road from a horse racing track... not exactly what we think of as the pretty part of town in any way. :D
I feel really happy that the band has been able to grow from their tiny Little Six casino they used to run into the modern complex it has become... but they really needed a better planner, as the complex just seems like their only goal was to pave the Earth.
Not that one Jeff! THAT ONE! 😱
The blade’s lifespan over?
PERFECTLY Executed as ALWAYS!!
I've seen a lot of wind installations fail - I get the sense there's a lot of quality issues, turbines are built poorly and don't perform or are too unreliable to be economically viable. Seems to be doing better overseas though, they must be doing something right that we're doing wrong. Impressive felling though, managed to lay it down exactly between the trees - wonder if that was planned to that level of precision, or just luck? A direct overhead view from a drone would have been even more impressive.
That's more like it. Those things are ugly
"That's a real nice park ya got there. Be a shame if something fell down on it. Oohhhhhhh........"
ı Iove you vıdeos
ajales éso estuvo bien cool 👍
Why???? why destroy it and not simply sell it?? all that mess
More landfill! Could have been sold to Panama where it would have been repaired and provided clean power for another 50 years or so?
To all you folks that keep griping about wind turbines, Europe has been using them successfully for decades. I think most of the American complainers are misinformed. ☮️
CDI! Post your Sunshine Skyway videos. To the tune of Claire de Lune.
Good ole green energy!! 😂😂😂
Unfortunately i do not think there is enough cutting charges made to do a proper job on wind turbines ALL of them
I see a whole lot of whining in the comments from selfish and/or ignorant people who don't understand reality.
👋 👍 🥰
0:18 Fire in the hole!
0:22 TIIIMBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRR!!!
good old reliable green energy now what about recycling the huge mass of concrete that held that tower up
“redundant 78-meter wind turbine unit that failed to reliably deliver power”… something more to this 🤔
I greatly enjoy watching the deconstruction of large objects.
I wonder, how much weight in copper is in one of those wind turbine motors. Excellent job as always. Y'all take care.
That was GE 1.5 knockoff if I remember correctly. Generator probably weighs 7000, perhaps half that is copper
Aaah fuck! ... there goes the lawn!!
Wonder what the reason for demolition was?
probably old, the turbine model from what I gathered is kind of old looking, but it also could be because of residents or height restrictions
Awesome Video. Thanks CDI. Making the World a better place.
Its almost like art! That sound is amazing! 🤩
11JUL2022 - Just how much money has been wasted on this monumental failure of an idea? And don't even try to calculate the devastation to wildlife. Well, anyway, thanks for doing your job so well. Been a bit of a dry spell the past few months.
👍🏼 Another great job! Super audio too!
Oh wow, I wish I had known you'd be in the Twin Cities... I would have made a special trip to watch from a distance.
Most likely everything about that windmill is obsolete. If it were profitable to recycle any of it other than scrap, they would have. This is what’s going to happen to all of them eventually. The ones in Holland still working.
RIP tree
Well that is unexpected 0:31
Man you took out that little tree LOL Great job missing everything but the little tree👋👋👋👋👋
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up

I really enjoyed that! Best amsr on youtube. I feel so relaxed
The only good wind turbine is a demolished wind turbine
Why
Nicely done. Another good video. A drone view would have been interesting.
Welcome back!
This And The Seas Turbine :D
Gosh, a coal plant would still be working...reliably.
Mystic Lake Wind Turbine
Mystic Lake Wind Turbine
Best thing to ever happen to those eyesores, they're not cost effective in any way, size, shape, or form, get rid of them all
They’re very cost effective. Building a new wind farm is actually cheaper than continuing to run an existing coal plant of the same effective output. They wouldn’t be all over the place if they weren’t cost effective. This one just happened to not be working right.
Bring back Nuclear power!
Awesome! I wish we could do that to all of these monstrosities.
