Our band once wrote a song call shadow on the wall.. which is apparently a title of a Mike oldfield..which we’d never heard, when we posted on you tube we got a cease and desist message from his management…
That is odd. There are plenty of songs with same names. They cannot force you to rename a song you made. Perhaps the management is just trying to scare people off?
To be fair we left the video up and I’ve just checked it’s still there .. I imagine it hit some sort of algorithm and flagged it .. song is completely different and they never followed it up . Our view count was so low I doubt it was a major concern 😂
They two songs are recorded in the same style and sound, and they were originally written around the same time, but MITR wasn't recorded until around a decade later - and now with some very personal lyrics from MO ( My guess is that it is about himself and his divorce from his Norwegian wife Anita Hegerland (?)), which are then of course not the original lyrics. The two tunes are not the "same" either, as some people like to claim, but they are sort of connected - one influenced by the other.
Mike Oldfield was the reason as a child I decided I wanted to become a musician! I did a video a couple of years ago breaking down the original multitracks for Tubular Bells (the original) but I was already a fan of Cara Dillon when she appeared on Tubular Bells 3 and it was quite a surprise. She really is part of a Folk dynasty with The Lakeman brothers over here in the UK (and Ireland where she is from). What I don't understand is why did they need to send out a cassette of what was guaranteed to be another highly anticipated Mike Oldfield album anyway? Weird?
@@steverosier5880 No, no, Mike really makes a good job here, indeed he takes singing classes… but, of course, where he is really good is playing guitars and composing pretty songs and long instrumentals…
Cara Dillon is a wonderful singer with a sweet crystalline voice. The album you forgot the name of is her second solo one "Sweet Liberty" from 2003 which is a fantastic collection of reworked traditional songs and some of her own. This track is from 1998 around the time she was in a group named Equation alongside her future husband Sam Lakeman and while it is fairly good it's certainly no Moonlight Shadow and it certainly isn't the best example of her vocal abilities.
Mike sang all the vocals on the album Heaven's Open if you have not heard that one. the title track is particularly impressive. He took singing lessons apparently.
"Cara" was chosen most likely as Maggie was not called up for the gig for whatever the reason. Almost identical sounding styles . Not much in it really. This demo is fairly close to the finished product.
Different tune, but similar sound & arrangement plus the same drums. They were originally written at the same time( and influenced by each others ), but MITR wasn't released until several years later - now with changed ( I think? ) very personal lyrics.
MIKE is GOD!!!! The best EVER.
On the record Cara Dillon is just credited as "Cara of Polar Star", which was / is (?) the band of CD and her husband.

What?! I love this and I hate this at the same time 😉😂🍻
WHAT?!!! Mike Oldfield does not own words! 😮 Did you re-title the song and still use it?…

The connection to Moonlight Shadow is much closer than you think..... Mike used the drum recording from Moonlight Shadow on Man in the rain.
Oh, wow! How cool! Thanks for that! & thanks for watching
And “Crime of Passion”

@@Bjowolf2Mike said long ago on a deleted website that it definitely was about the divorce 😢.
@AngraMainiiu Thank you 😉
Thanks for sharing, the song sounds almost fully formed here, even the solo is quite close to the final product! Cheers gents!
Right?? Our pleasure! Thanks for watching!

This, “Crime of Passion” and “Moonlight Shadow” have same chord structure, yet they are so different . Great stuff . Great channel guys
Super cool! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
This demo is very close to the final.
Take for instance demo of Five Miles Out. Damn that feels quite raw to the final one, but in a nice way.
Agreed and AGREED. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this. The singer is Cara Dillon and Mike sings all the songs only on one of his LP, it,s “Heaven,s Open” (Virgin, 1991)
Mike also sang all the demos of all the tracks on his Man on the Rocks album (2014)
DILLON! Thanks for that. Was driving me crazy during the episode. Haha. Thanks for watching!
I mean, listening to Heaven’s Open now - I wasn’t far off 😂😮

You guys have amazing beard coordination. Impressive!
Damn it! Just shaved mine 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️😂
Come for the Celts, stay for the beards! 🤣🎉

I need to check that album out! Thank you!
Great! There's more Mike Oldfield on the collection?
Maybe! 😉
Can't wait

This sound much like Moonlight Shadow
Right?? Both great tracks though!
