- Here is my take on the new RX 500h. It’s a remarkable leap over any RX before it in regards to the way it drives, the tech and luxury. One will be in the driveway!

I heard that there is a Proactive Driving Assist feature on the RX but the journalists I have watched so far have not even mentioned it.

@@chrisowens1325 not sure I was driving it hard most of the time so didn’t pay attention. I’m sure whatever it’s rated (I think 26mpg) it will meet.

Had mine for 2 weeks and I really love this car. Plenty of power, very comfortable with all the latest tech. I’ve come out of a Lexus LC 500 which I loved but the RX does everything so well. Don’t know why people think SUV’s have got to be so sporty. If you want sporty buy a sports car and enjoy that hard unforgivable ride.

Hi, sounds like you said another 1500 hp. I agree! 😅. Joke aside, I agree about the black hiding the nose. It's the front hood line that really makes the nose stick out. The black hides the line and makes it look more seamless.
Yup dark colors will be the way to go. The copper is so striking i don’t even notice lol.

All my vehicles are whites and i know not all vehicles look good in white, it all depends on the design of the vehicle itself. I thought about getting white again with this new RX, but this video makes me having a second thought...this black/red combo looks sexy!!

In my opinion it's not as aggressive looking as the 2020-22 Versions, still nice though!
Named as sports performance,but never see its off load driving test.
Black is the way to go, it hides the hideous front nose connecting the hood to the front in this particular design. Looks ggreat.

How much LOWER is its height then the previous generation. My knock on the Q5 is that its ride height sits too low, and it looks like RX really dropped a lot. What are your thoughts?
I think it’s about 1” lower if I recall the press release. Nothing crazy.
The suv looks great and for sure drives great ,, but surprised by you defining it as having a plenty of room in the back seat. Even in the front it looks tight. I believe those at Lexsus think that all people are 5.5. I won’t buy this car and then find myself sitting tight. At least they should have added a couple of inches of space at front and rear. Their engineers have no sense !
I am 6”5 and fit perfectly fine. As you can see I fit fine and didn’t adjust the front seat first. The RX didn’t grow in length but the wheelbase grew 2 inches. If you want larger they make an LX 600 with we own.

With the updated interior and pano, I can finally start looking into purchasing a Lexus.
I've always wanted one but the interior was too outdated for the price point.
Lexus "500" use to mean a 5.0 liter V8 which was nice, and now they slipped in a V-6 hybrid non-turbo and call it a 500h. Shame on you Lexus and for 60K+ you only get 295hp. The V-6 camry non hybrid even has more hp (305hp) and the Telsa Performance in the same price range is way more powerful at 450hp. Granted the Lexus has a nicer interior, but not so good looking on the outside with that humongous grill. Its a non turbo does it really need that much cooling. I bet the grill is mostly fake design aesthetic.
The RX 500h F Sport Performance has 366hp and 409lbs of torque. I agree the 500 name is a bit confusing across the lineup.
Dang either this or the Volvo XC60 and gv70 makes the best looking car

Same length, wheelbase is longer and it’s lower.
You can’t get this with the Mark Levinson stereo or the Panorama 360 cameras due to chip shortage

Mike I was in SB over Labor Day and walked by your photo shoot…. I don’t think anyone has ever said those words about a Lexus… least of all an RX. Your Lexus bias is on full display here… I doubt very much X5 or Cayenne owners would be stunned by this RX as a drivers SUV.
I can have Lexus bias and report things from a different perspective. There are 20,000 other outlets that don’t like Lexus. You can listen to those. If you watched them, they also were pretty shocked the RX drives so well.
The fact is I wasn’t expecting anything when I got to the event. Oh wow “a new RX “ (popcorn). We have owned every generation. Thus my complete shock in driving the 500 which I spent the majority of my time with. I drove it harder than 99% of the owners out there will push it. I was shocked that it didn’t fuss and actually liked being thrown around. Shocking for a RX or any Lexus CUV.
I just had a brand new X5 hybrid for a week in Oregon. I honestly was puzzled by its popularity. Cramped, bad seats, not that sporty, not that fast but amazing MPG. Surely a M sport or M drives better but most sold are non sports.
Cayenne is a Porsche, it’s sportiest around. It’s supposed to be. Drives great. That said for someone that might be a Lexus owner who was thinking of a Cayenne, the 500 could keep them in the fold even if it lacks the outright speed of an optioned Cayenne.
Can’t go wrong with any of them. The RX is going to shock people in 500 form.

500h is a hybrid. The 450 will also be a plug in hybrid

MDX Type-S is still the more appealing car.
If you know nothing about cars or just like Hondas. The RX 500h is more powerful, with better MPG, with vastly more technology and much higher quality materials. RX has much larger brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Tires. MDX does have 7 seats. MDX is problematic as well. MDX does offer air suspension. Both look nice in darker colors to me.

@@MikeForsythe LOL. Way to be objective. Not. I know PLENTY about cars. As a matter of fact, the WORST car experience I've ever had was in my Lexus GS. And I'm not exaggerating. I've had Acuras (2), BMWs (3), Nissans (2), Audi (1), Toyota (1), Lexus (1). My two most problematic cars were the Toyota and Lexus. Please don't try to tell me what I don't know. LOL.
@@MikeForsythe The MDX T-S has a double wishbone front sus setup, a mechanical torque converter, incredible 25-speaker sound system from ELS..a V6 turbo from the TLX Type S which id think would sound better than a 4-cyl lol. They're both great! RX would be more comfort tho+the reliability of course. Honda is not that bad tho quality wise, mostly.
An anecdotal fallacy. Your experience is not the norm clearly. Lexus is head and shoulders above acura in regards to quality and reliability and regarded as the best the past 30 plus years. Acura has struggled for years now in any report including long term reviews. That said I’m happy it’s working out for you.
I rather get a 22k Mazda CX30
CX30 is a lovely car but not it’s competition. I think the upcoming CX60 fits the bill which is also very well done.

Lexus, listen up! Here’s some advice for u, for true enthusiasts who really understands what is sport and performance, you must have at least MINIMUM > 450HP, same amount of torque to be honored to put on your vehicles Sport or performance badge. Till then, your vehicles are just another crappie and boring cars from shitty Toyota corp... It seems like top dogs Germans won’t let Japanese to produce real sport performance vehicles. That’s just a sad objective truth for Lexus fans! 🤷🏻♂ Japanese must know their place in this food chain..
If you think a HP rating dictates performance then you don’t know much about cars. The irony is all those high power cuvs aren’t tracked or used in that fashion. Would more power be nice? Yes.
If you want sporty buy a Lexus LC 500 or if you can afford it a Lexus LFA.

We had a mule with the 5.0L and RWD only, we were hoping they would do an electric front and gas rear setup but it never came to fruition.
It has 376 horse power. Not bad at all

Under powered? 367hp by far the most hp the rx has had plus its an hybrid so its instant torque.
It has more than enough power. I’m jaded since I am always driving powerful cars. For most it will be fantastic. Easily the fastest RX.
Thanks, it’s a pretty shocking drive for a RX. Instead of wanting to park it and drink wine, we drove it all over the mountain roads.

STUNNING in Caviar! That color with blacked out windows...ohhhhh! But I live in the desert and would be washing it every other day. Like the black 'chrome' vs silver. Wish they would do that on more cars or at least make it an option. Thank you for your review.

The outgoing model does have included storage in the rear seat armrest. At least it does in the 450h with the luxury trim.

@JDM Bren I am desperately trying to like this redesign but...ugggghhh. it almost seems as if Lexus is pivoting away from comfort and luxury and trying to move more into Tesla territory. With all the tech stuff, that extra large monitor, lack of walnut or bamboo wood trim. I don't know. I absolutely love how lexus redesigned the LX. I pray and hope they don't radically redesign the ES, which i am considering.
