I had a 88 and I loved every minute of the car. I was 17 when i bought it it was the funnest car i had ever drove. I beat an 02 vett on the track because he had to slow down so much in the corners that i was able to pull ahead by lap 3 because he kicked my butt on launch. Also funnest car to take you buddy's out and what girl does not want to ride in a Porsche even if it cost less than a civic.
I had the similar 1987 924S and loved it (lighter 924 bodyshell with 944 drivetrain).. It was highly reliable, fun to drive, good gas mileage, and that 2.5 liter Porsche engine felt like a whole lot more than 145 hp and 135 ft/lbs torque. Huge grin-inducing fun on autocross courses. The only real downside was that the A/C pretty much sucked from new, and Porsche recommended "front of engine service" every couple of years, in which the cam drive belt, front engine oil seals, and water pump all got replaced. I wound up buying the Porsche tension tool for the cam drive belt and doing the job myself as the car got older. I had the car 20 years and would still be driving it now if I hadn't of wrecked it. I'm a huge fan of the 924s /944/ 968 cars and will have another someday ;) -or perhaps a Cayman....
My daughter turned me on to your vids; she has an '83 944. Loves it despite its flaws. I have a 1989 Mercedes 560SEC. Would love to see an Aging Wheels episode showing the flaws in the W126 MBs. And there are many! But I still love the car.
I’ve made it my mission to buy a white lux 944 as my second car. I’ve been driving for a year, with my little 100hp panda. And I’ll be going to have a look see at my favourite one soon. Can’t wait.
I just two days ago bought a 951 (944 turbo) and it is the most amazing car ever!! It does have a boost controller and it is in amazing condition. Keep in mind I have owned two Early (first gen) Camaros...But this car is the best I have ever owned!!
The only Porsche design that I like so far... Just spotted a 944 for a first time like weeks ago, good god there was a 944 sticker on the side. You can't tell that's a Porsche at first, rare Gem.
The 944 looks fantastic with a set of 930 wheels/tires. They don't rub and fills out the fender flares properly also giving it a wider look and not taking away from the factory look.
kinda late to the party but my dad owns a 88 944 Turbo. 2.5liter with a turbo will literally KICK YOUR ASS, believe me. The higher the revs go the more you wish to never gotten out of your bed that day. I mean to be fair it went to a proper engine tuning shop where the whole engine got a rework to get the maximum out of it without actually physically modifiing the engine. Got dynod at 320hp I believe. And yes, I know that the 944 had some pretty small motors. But the two big ones, the 2.5 turbo and the 3.0 non-turbo... you better not mess around with them. Also, one thing you forgot: The drivers seat has electric controls. Well atleast the european version has it, I don't know about the american one.
I’m looking to get a 86 87 944. Do you know if it’s better to buy it at a dealer ship used for $1-2,000 more or get it from a previous owner. Any help is great help thank you
+HORNMAESTRO the car hes talking about in the video is the 1st revisdion of the 944 and the first us revision so its more like some sort of 924 than a 944 ... i do own one of the rare 3l dohc turbo s 944 with 4 gear tiptronic and a common latest revision 944 s2 and dude, you can go wrong with THE RIGHT REVISION of these "volksporsches" ....
That's funny I have a Prius and a 944 S2 and can imagine my 944 self passing my Prius self going to work.... haha! I love both vehicles and one is obviously more fun to drive, while the other let's me drive for a much longer time before I stop at a gas station. 944s are great and glad Aging Wheels keeps them relevant with his humor and general Seinfeld approach about a 944 normal day-to-day operation!
It’s actually pretty fast depending on what year you get, and for a few extra thousand, you can get the 86 turbo, which is very fast, and looks and sounds much better
MO, huh? Me too. Hannibal. Where are you? My '84 is really similar to your beauty. The "folks" hrer in "America's Hometown" think it's an exotic racer, LOL. I love it! Keep up the great work and thanks for the posting. C-YA!
One thing I noticed about Porsche 944 is that it overheats at around 30 thousand miles of driving so in order to stop this issue one need to change the thermostat regularly and it's per the Porsche dealer.
If you get chance to drive either an FC or an FB RX7, I suggest you do it. They were released as dirrect competitors to the 944, and it would be interesting to see your take on them.
I have a 1983 porsche 944 and really is a great and beautiful car, parts are not really expensive, in Europe 944 engine offer more horsepower and fender bumpers are different. Saludos desde españa
Yes it has a lightweight flywheel, yes it has a throttle by cable, but the bucking happens because there is a rubber bushing in the clutch which is there to absorb the speed difference between engine and gearbox (well torque tube) so the bucking harms the rubber bushing and so you don't want to do that as it's a fucking pain in the ass to replace a clutch on those things
This may once have been a good idea but since the value is going up on these cars, keeping them original is more important. Theyre classic cars now, if you want a fast car buy something newer
Replacement of clutch and timing belt/water pump. Depending on mileage just see if it has Maintenance kept up on. And I think on older cars like these it's good to look for how many owners a car has.
LegendaryBrolly Something to keep in mind is the odometer on these have a fault that causes it to stop working if you try to reset the trip while moving. Don't be alarmed if you find one with a broken odometer, but also still be careful.
Love the 944. Gorgeous car. That aftermarket red sign? between the tail lights is like a tramp stamp... yuck. (I realize you probably did not put it there.) That is where the license plate goes. You might be breaking the law by having a rear license plate with no light on it.
I’m. Actually. A guy that. Likes. The. Styling. And overall. Look of. The 944. ! Always. Wondered. If their. Factory. Brake system. Would. Handle. A. American. V8. Swap? It. Could. Create. A. Look into an LS swap kit, the later turbo models could handle the all alloy LS engine, but don't go nuts with building the engine up to big HP. The transmission can only take so much, but 250HP will make these little cars into massive beasts as they're very light overall.
+thebadace1 There kind of isn't. You could do the typical things like exhaust, etc., but the gains would be minor. You can't easily turbo the base engine because the transmission won't handle the extra torque. The good thing about the 944 is that, if you want a faster version, they made them. There's the 944S, 944 turbo, and (the best one) the 944 S2 all for you to chose from.
Passing another car on a freeway doesnt really make it faster if you know anything about racing.. never thought you did tho but just saying. And buy new jeans.
I had a 88 and I loved every minute of the car. I was 17 when i bought it it was the funnest car i had ever drove. Thank you for pronouncing "Porsche" correctly. Also, I want a 944!
I just got one
I am in love

If yours is a 85.5 and newer you can add in Infotainment to it. I added a Sony XAV double din with CarPlay to mine.
I've been watching car videos all day and this is the only one that managed to make me laugh. Keep up the good work, this video was awesome :)
I had the similar 1987 924S and loved it (lighter 924 bodyshell with 944 drivetrain).. The worst part of public bloopers is that everyone looks at you and thinks you're insane or having a brain bleed while recording
2:35, triggered. I'm picking up an '88 944 next week, very excited.
Thank you Forest Gump!
Ever since I saw this car 2 weeks ago I fell in love and I started to save money to get one
My daughter turned me on to your vids; she has an '83 944. Loves it despite its flaws. I have a 1989 Mercedes 560SEC.
Would love to see an Aging Wheels episode showing the flaws in the W126 MBs. And there are many! But I still love the car.
I bought an 87 944s in 1993 and drove it for almost 10 years. It was a very fun car to have.
The best car I've ever own, when you closed those door the firm sounding click and seal is German engineering at its best.
That automobile really is beautiful. Put it in perspective of automobiles of its era. You will get it. I like the humorious touche in your vids man!
When I was still growing up and this car was still being built, we in Germany just called it "the poor mans Porsche".
I've seen two videos from your channel but i gotta say, I LOVE IT !!!! man why dont you have more views and subsribers ?! This thing is awesome !
So f**king hot...malaise era cool. Those fender flares are a lot of “how YOU doin’?” for 140hp.
Had a 944s 1988 was solid car , handled like crazy.pur quality
I have one too and I am in love! This guy is so funny!!
Great Video , Thank You , I enjoyed your humor and comments , I might be purchasing a 83 , 944 .....
I’ve made it my mission to buy a white lux 944 as my second car. I’ve been driving for a year, with my little 100hp panda. And I’ll be going to have a look see at my favourite one soon. Can’t wait.

I started with an '83 944... And now I have a 996 turbo. I was hooked early on Porsches. The lug nuts are aluminum BTW.
The only Porsche design that I like so far... Just spotted a 944 for a first time like weeks ago, good god there was a 944 sticker on the side. You can't tell that's a Porsche at first, rare Gem.
I loved the review but I especially enjoyed the bloopers. LOL!
I inherited a 1989 model from my father but it hasn't run since 2008, and I don't have a driver's license, so it'll just have to wait sadly.
You can fix it to run till then (and probably add some cheeky upgrades without them noticing too 😏).
Putting the sun roof back on is a pain in the ass.
Yeah, but leaving it off means your hair will look like Donald Trump's when you get out.
The 944 looks fantastic with a set of 930 wheels/tires. They don't rub and fills out the fender flares properly also giving it a wider look and not taking away from the factory look.
man those wide hips... love 'em!

ok this guys prettty cool, Im planning on getting a 944 will there be more videos on the 944 in the future?? Thanks
+HORNMAESTRO There will be a few
+HORNMAESTRO the car hes talking about in the video is the 1st revisdion of the 944 and the first us revision so its more like some sort of 924 than a 944 ... i do own one of the rare 3l dohc turbo s 944 with 4 gear tiptronic and a common latest revision 944 s2 and dude, you can go wrong with THE RIGHT REVISION of these "volksporsches" ....
doktorlindblood Wait, you have a 3L turbo with a 4 speed auto? That sounds like a 968. How rare is this thing?
+Aging Wheels I'm pretty sure this guy doesn't know what he's talking about lmao..
MrShapoopee24 I didn't want to be rude, but I completely agree. The complete lack of spelling and grammar correctness is also very worrisome.
That's funny I have a Prius and a 944 S2 and can imagine my 944 self passing my Prius self going to work.... haha! Prius is a great car to have along with a 9 forty four because they are bulletproof.
Another great 944 video!
Hey should I buy this 1985 Porsche 944 it's $2100 and the only thing that needs fixin is the radiator. Thank you if you take the time to read this.
handling is honestly the best thing about this car
It’s actually pretty fast depending on what year you get, and for a few extra thousand, you can get the 86 turbo, which is very fast, and looks and sounds much better

+Chris Dannenberg here
+Chris Dannenberg I'm in St Louis, and yes, I've had countless people ask how fast it is.
One thing I noticed about Porsche 944 is that it overheats at around 30 thousand miles of driving so in order to stop this issue one need to change the thermostat regularly and it's per the Porsche dealer.
Porsche, there is no substitute.
Mine got 294 hp, it's fast.
If you get chance to drive either an FC or an FB RX7, I suggest you do it. They were released as dirrect competitors to the 944, and it would be interesting to see your take on them.
Commrade Conrad I would like to. Know someone that has one?
No one in Missouri :/
I have a 1983 porsche 944 and really is a great and beautiful car, parts are not really expensive, in Europe 944 engine offer more horsepower and fender bumpers are different. Saludos desde españa
I owned a 944 and yes it wasn't fast but it was sexy as fuk! And thank you for pronouncing Porsche correctly!
I found 1 in donegal it's red and seems to be pretty mint I pass it everyday I go to school!🚘
what year is this?
Are they mostly similair for say 1984
Nice video, funny man !
Have a black 944 great car Rog Pacific sunset
Love my 85.
the flared fenders remind me of the e30 m3.
+04dram04 I was going to say the same thing. Even better is the fact that these arent going for $60,000 for a decent one like the E30s are right now.
Theres an '86 944 near me with 93k original miles for $900, its an automatic though.
Actually its an '85
Is the 944 Spacious inside?
I'm 6'3 would I fit in it? Lol
You would, my step father is 6'3" and races one.
yh iv seen ppl 6'4" fit
that thing about making it buck is soooooooo true
Ah just drop a LS motor in your little porsche and every little turd that tries to pass you will feel your rath!
Steve The Man and say goodbye to that near 50/50 weight distribution!
True. You could add a turbo on it.
Steve The Man yeah any upgrade other than a swapped motor.
Yep, 951 with a Lindsey racing kit...say bye bye to the Prius, lol. And say bye bye to the 308 Ferrari.
This may once have been a good idea but since the value is going up on these cars, keeping them original is more important. Theyre classic cars now, if you want a fast car buy something newer
the 944 is an awesome car if you can get a good one I want another one I had the 16v 1988
can this be a good daily driver? and for gas mileage wise whats your opinion
+ShutLilKid I would have a back up if this was your daily. As for gas mileage, my odometer didn't work.
they have like a 20 gal tank and you can seriously go like 400+ miles on a tank easy
Are they reliable? Affordable to maintain?
Doxx Holiday only if you are somewhat mechanically inclined.
Better in red like Jake Ryan's car.
What should I look for when buying a used 944?
Replacement of clutch and timing belt/water pump. Depending on mileage just see if it has Maintenance kept up on. And I think on older cars like these it's good to look for how many owners a car has.
Watch for rusted sills aswell mine had lived its whole life by the sea and it was falling apart just by the rear wheel arches
LegendaryBrolly Something to keep in mind is the odometer on these have a fault that causes it to stop working if you try to reset the trip while moving. Don't be alarmed if you find one with a broken odometer, but also still be careful.
Thanks guys, I'll def keep all this in mind
Aging Wheels that's how I bought mine. "75,XXX original miles!!!" more like 110k lol
This is the exact location of where this video was filmed: 38.6979942, -90.4052694
I still think it should be pronounced nine-forty-four!
I also prefer it to be like mine where the rear doesn't have the big reflector and the plate is there instead
Wait????!! there's a glove box key hole cover???! WHY THE HELL DIDN'T MINE COME WITH ONE?? LOL
I love my 1983 944 some much
#UIA
Have the same one but mines a 84
I have the same one you have same color
German engineering: the only way to answer the question as to why some features are way overengineered.
It's a baby 928.
What rims are on your car?
TheAerialPanda porsche cookie-cutters
Is this a non turbo 944?
Yeah
susanrc73 Maaan.
Love the 944. Gorgeous car. That aftermarket red sign? between the tail lights is like a tramp stamp... yuck. (I realize you probably did not put it there.) That is where the license plate goes. You might be breaking the law by having a rear license plate with no light on it.
What about the 924
Dude you're from Missouri?
Scott Brixey Yes I am
Aging Wheels where at? I live in ohio now but I'm originally from Springfield area.
St Louis
+Aging Wheels I live in St. Charles just about 25 minutes away from stl
Jake Martin Awesome. You should bring your 944 to cars and coffee next Saturday

+thebadace1 There kind of isn't. You could do the typical things like exhaust, etc., but the gains would be minor. There's the 944S, 944 turbo, and (the best one) the 944 S2 all for you to chose from.
+Aging Wheels would it be impractical to engine swap a LS1 in there?
+thebadace1 Yes. The base 944 transmission can't handle the torque. (or so I've heard)
if its real power you want from the 944 just buy a 951 mod it and say hello to 300 whp. the trans will take it and it is a blast to drive!!
Passing another car on a freeway doesnt really make it faster if you know anything about racing.. never thought you did tho but just saying. And buy new jeans.
I bought it in 1984 used I leased it for my business I am a CFP., but it was hard riding, and built poorly compared to the 911
well obviously, it's not supposed to be a 911. there's a difference between a 944 and a 911. that difference is like 60 thousand dollars
My grandfather's boss reached 270km/h in his
924 or 944 is fast and civic cant be faster
Too bad ADHD is still not curable!
Begging for an LS1 swap
Bootleg Dug DeMuro lol
Econobox 😂
I had a 1983 Porsche 944... the window motors died, it was hard riding, low power, the quality was poor, it was an expensive piece of junk
What year did you buy this car? How much did you pay?
1984, $27K
ya i bought a 1985 this year for 5k and its pretty freaking great for that amount of money
oh.. the 994... The bad days of Porsche. Thanks to the 911 those useless models were destroyed from roads, and the 911 become an icon.
Still only a squashed frog; ugly.
