Thought I'd have some fun today and make use of the brand new copper bulb in Minecraft. Not sure how much it'll revolutionize as we have better ways of storing data, but since T-Flip-Flops are used everywhere, bulbs will at least make those contraptions smaller which is always nice!

@@gendo1123 The reason for the creation of the internet was for people to easily share their knowledge. And it's nice that people still use it for that 34 years later. Though sadly the internet has become way more of a mess in the meantime.
It's really fun to be able to use the tick rate command to make it so the animation plays smoothly, I'm glad both bulbs and the command were added in the same snapshot

I always do my big builds manually, purely because placing hundreds of blocks, annoying as it may be, is always far easier than learning commands 😅

Switching from redstone lamps to copper bulbs in Minecraft is the equivalent of switching from cathode TVs to LCD screens
Quite literally. 1 game tick delay of copper bulbs will make a good chunk redstone much more compact and faster.
They are similar but different so like tv to led but let’s be honest not many know how either of those actually work

The fact that we have only had 1 week with copper bulbs and there are already people demonstrating their potential gives me hope with this 1.21, and although it is done with commands, it is still incredible

It baffles me that you were able to do this. I know the tick speed command was essential to get the smooth framerate, but the idea of programing those frames is insane to me.
To be honest I'm not sure if he did program all the frames. If he did he probably made a program for it as doing it manually would be infeasible.
The reason I doubt if he actually redstone-programmed all of the frames is cause he presses a command block to activate it and never shows the redstone behind it. This tells me that it most likely is just a bunch of commandblocks doing fill and setblock commands instead of an actual redstone device you can build in survival.

Pro tip: you can put tintend glass in front of the copper bulbs to make it look like an actual display, as you will not be able to see the bulbs unless they’re lit.

3:45 I love how in the parts where it's mostly dark, the slight glow you can see from the blocks are even more obvious which makes it look like a glare/bloom effect.

It's jaw dropping to see that the game didn't implode and to see that it works this well, holy cow!
I had to use some datapack and general optimisation techniques for it to work smoothly!
Every frame, I'm not placing every lit and unlit copper bulbs for each pixel, but only the bulbs that *changed* from the previous frame. Making this command video player at least 100x more efficient!
@@slomibut the thing that it is technically possible is insane. In vanilla, it would probably lag a lot if i get you Right.

This is how most youtube "build" videos go. You can tell easily when they just used an image generator
Tell me if I got this right:
1) Download video
2) Downscale video
3) Convert every frame to black and white (or perhaps, everything that's not white is treated as black)
4) Convert each frame to a CSV (or other text format)
5) Read the text as outputs for setting the block to either lit cube or unlit cube (white or black, 1 or 0)
6) Run at 120 TPS which scales nicely to 60 Frames per second, the video format
If you do end up building this in redstone, in order to "refresh" the bulbs, send the previous image again and all lit bulbs will become unlit.

What I did was:
Downscale vid
Detect white pixels
Convert a frame into Minecraft commands and put them in an .mcfunction file
Run those mcfunction file!

@@isuck6049 that didn't come without preparation though, the sub did a practice run on Ludwig's our/place which worked extremely well. They were organised for it and already had a practice run

I think it would be really interesting to make a datapack or something that makes the base game run at 120-200tps, allowing for way faster redstone
The game has a tick rate command now that does just this, but any tps you want

Move the right column-line (that updates the pixel-rows) into the middle, in that way each row is only half as long & can therefore be updated twice as fast.
(I guess it could maybe be possible to 4x the speed too, by sending the updating signal in a "+" pattern instead of a "I" pattern, but that seams annoying to do...)
(...then you get into, "why not use multiple starting points" kind of territory, and suddenly there is a HUGE contraption that "makes EVERY pixel a starting-point-pixel")

Yes, but their changing color will look odd, as you'll not only see a light gradient, but an oxidation gradient.
