This is probably my favorite CGR review. The reviewer clearly loves this game, and he doesn't share it in the cold, quantitative manner that most reviewers do. The words that he uses, and the footage that he shows, express his affection perfectly.
Damn i loved that game! I remember making giant tunnels through walls and mountains just to see where i could go and if there was limits to the game, man it was fun! I was soooo disappointed when i first heard that the sequel would be a 3rd person shooter instead of a first person shooter...and even though most people seemed to like RF2 more than the first one, i personally didnt like it at all, it was too different and the 3rd person view didnt work for me. I wish they would make a remastered version of this game, with todays technology this game could be even better!
Great review Mark. I remember hearing about the game back in the day but never got into it...now that I am in the middle of a "PS2 Revival-Fest", going back enjoying some of the great PS2 games, this game is ripe for rediscovery, or is it just discovery, by me. Thanks for the recommend!
Oh man this game was amazing. The sequels never came close. :( The story mode was very lenghy and REALLY worth playing through multiple times, but there was also a multiplayer mode against bots wich was amazing. Endless fun.
As if I didn't agree with you enough, about this game and so many others...you just had to win my heart over fully, by mentioning the precision rifle. All throughout part 1 I was flabbergasted and heartbroken that not a single second of PR cottage was shown. Thinking that my love for that gun misdirected and perhaps just...not right. But thank you. The greatest and single most enjoyable gun in any FPS I have ever played (with the exception of the magnum from BLACK, which is just too cool to wield). Thank you.
amazing review its about time you got the second half up, it was funny it was epic, action packed, very well done, amazing editting, I RECKON you do teh best review on youtube, please keep em coming, ill drink along to any review you post
This is a classic game! they should bring back some of the proper geomod like in this game! you can bring down buildings in guerrilla but I want to blow chunks out of the landscape
"ah haha Parker so you made it past my little guard. Welcome to my zoo, Parker....Ah I see you reached my submarine bay, go ahead....Parker. Take a ride." Man that guy doesn't stop calling you out. I don't think this is supposed to be this funny. Man that Rail Driver/Gun that shoots through walls is sick! That was one hell of a thrill watching that.
RF:Guerrilla made me smile with the hints to Eos and Parker as sectors. And the Geo mod v2 is by far the most inspiring work I (A hopeful Engine creator and modifier) have ever seen.
Damn I wish they would make a remake of the first red faction with, better Graphix, more map level on multiplayer, and more characters like the mercs and Hendrix and Eos Ect. I love red faction forever
I remember picking up RED FACTION back in 2002 for christmas with my spanking new PS2!! i was soo excited to play it but the game was scratched and it didn't work at all i was fucking pissed!!! and now im more mad knowing that i didn't play this badassery of a game.
One the of the best games ever! I got it a couple days after it came out and it's definatly my favorite FPS to date. Great review by the way, I wish I could find my copy of Red Faction though! It's somewhere in my house...
Great recommendation Mark! I picked it up for 4 bucks from ebay and played all the way though. Very challenging for me but I really made use of that save anywhere feature.
l've decided to buy this game again because it was one of my favorites of all time, still is. But I have a question, l can't remember whether l played with auto aim or without, some say that without auto aim it's hard because the handle is too sensitive, but I can't see myself trying with autoaim when l play it soon because it just seems too easy, too goofy. Anyone knows if does work without autoaim fairly decently or does it bring down the playing quality a lot? I'll get it on PS2 by the way.
asome review i bought red faction a few days after the first part of the review and loved it beat it in 2 days. i was wondering why u didnt talk about the multi player thanks a lot
Dude, I loved everything about this game. It had great music, it was a long game, plus it just loaded like Halfe-Life (no stages). Such a lovely game. I can only hope there is a remake.
9:50 projectile weapons in a space station? good way to turn the station into a siev, rail guns especially, id use a ray gun or a tazer, a gun that shoots tazer rounds that wont damage the hull. is the precision rifle any good in this game? I only use the heavy machine gun and the rocket launchers and the rail gun. and I hate the mercs with the rail guns in this game 1 shot kills.
Agreed! I mean, the actual game itself was pretty cool, but I spent most of my days playing the multiplayer against my friend. Just blowing up hordes of people and making mile-deep caves inside an industrial complex or...in...a cave :D lol. This is my favorite FPS game EVER!! It's just super fun. The graphics suck, but the audio is great, AND it's fun to play- and the fun factor is what I look for in a game, not just graphics- it needs to be fun, and Red Faction delivered that 100% :)
I don't remember going outside and fighting two giant turrets that were on top of a building. Did this game actually have different paths? I remember it was the second playthrough of the game that I discovered the part near the beginning where you get locked in a stationary train while Hendrix tries to unlock the doors, while guards try to kill you from outside the train.
man the new first person shooter games may have better mechanics and graphics but they fail to reach the lvl of fun and enjoyment these older ps2 era fps had with this game and timesplitters
best game on ps2 red faction or timesplitters cant make up my mind best game on next gen console either bioshock or red dead redemption i mean cmon those games rocked you cant dislike em
@TibGaming It is spectacular Isn't it! I guess they were able to have destructible landscapes in the first 2 games was because they were completely linear! we'll just have to wait and see what kind of geomod they have in Red Faction Armageddon.
FYI, these graphics WERE next gen back at the time. it's like saying rhe same about uncharted 4, which has the REAL next gen graphics of the 8th gen consoles.
lol really funny and violent review. I never got into this game much when I rented it back in like '01. I just didn't think much of it though I wanted to like it, then again...I never caused that much violence either. Good work!
1:44 *screaming*crunching* Mark: gotta get those brakes checked, I meant to stop n NOT run these people over*horrid screaming*crunching*Mark: hey this things got a CD player in it, lets see what the Ultor soldiers listen to; Soldier:I DONT DESERVE TO DIE!!*Disco music plays*....."You can run but you CANT escape the disco"..*horrid scream followed by crunching*.LOLOLOLOLOL..... mark your commentary is comedy genius.
Kapek sounds eerily like Winnie the Pooh in the old Disney cartoons. Brilliant game. Cool Mars set 1player and proper blow evreything up as quick as you can multiplayer.
I just like to run over S*** and say I blew the transaxial. Omg I love your reviews and thought the first part of this video was boring but part 2 is fucking hilarious.
Excellent game. i still have this. Assault rifle is a personal favorite! at least until u get to the elite mercs.....then u have to rely on the precision rifle, heavy mg, rail driver, and fusion rocket launcher.
I'm not classic game guy, but they often drop health packs which can be very helpful if you're not playing in easy mode, especially further on in the game. So shoot them when desperate for health... but if you're a bit sadistic.. it can be fun seeing people running around with an explosive charge glued to their face (and then not letting it explode so they keep on running and screaming). Having said that: it's rather stupid to shoot the med-guys or nurses because they restore your health to 100%
precision rifel and assault rifle to me were always in hand! if not, it was the rockets.....rail gun does become a great deal of help especially when facing the elite guards and mercinaries
I totally agree: although the graphics look a bit dated the game is a lot of fun and you're completely sucked into it, as you said it's like being in a Paul Verhoeven movie! Anybody got any comments on Red Faction 2 (as compared to the good old Red Faction of 2001)?
when i got out of the jail i ran for the big green gun, manned that thing and then wasted everyone, didnt even think about jacking the miners gun. great game, when it got towards the end i just saved it every 3 minutes so when i died i didnt have to do a bunch all over again
RF1 is the best RF for PS2 but I wish there wasnt a geo mod limit. maybe if i get the game for PC with tons of memory and then ill download the geo mod limit removal mod.
This is probably my favorite CGR review. The reviewer clearly loves this game, and he doesn't share it in the cold, quantitative manner that most reviewers do. The words that he uses, and the footage that he shows, express his affection perfectly.
Had this game on ps2 and they have released it on ps4 truly one of the greatest fps games
"You can run, but you can't escape the disco" hahahah...Yes!
03:42-03:48, mark definetely has a great sense of humor and it shows in this game, lol. loving it.
I love this game so much. Had tons of fun playing it.
Great review Mark. I remember hearing about the game back in the day but never got into it...now that I am in the middle of a "PS2 Revival-Fest", going back enjoying some of the great PS2 games, this game is ripe for rediscovery, or is it just discovery, by me. Thanks for the recommend!
I could watch this same review over and over all day!!! One of your best, Mark!
Oh man this game was amazing. The sequels never came close. :(
The story mode was very lenghy and REALLY worth playing through multiple times, but there was also a multiplayer mode against bots wich was amazing. Endless fun.
The sequel had bots and is a ton of fun. After 2, they switched to 3rd person, and it wasn't great
As if I didn't agree with you enough, about this game and so many others...you just had to win my heart over fully, by mentioning the precision rifle. 2021 misses CGR
I finished this game in about 4 hours.
yet it is still one of my favourites
Awesome game! Come back mark!!
Take a ride."
Man that guy doesn't stop calling you out. I don't think this is supposed to be this funny. Man that Rail Driver/Gun that shoots through walls is sick!
That was one hell of a thrill watching that.
How much beer did you drink? :D
I love the part when you say: ''Everybody grab a beer!''
RF:Guerrilla made me smile with the hints to Eos and Parker as sectors.
And the Geo mod v2 is by far the most inspiring work I (A hopeful Engine creator and modifier) have ever seen.
You make this game look good, im gonna buy it now!
lol, "Ease down. Ease down!" thats my favorite line from Aliens.
Damn I wish they would make a remake of the first red faction with, better Graphix, more map level on multiplayer, and more characters like the mercs and Hendrix and Eos Ect. I love red faction forever
"Shoots everything but what you're aiming at". Hmm, must be standard issue for Storm Trooper's.
i ended up buying this game 4 times because the disc just keeped getting damages. But it was totally worth it ^^
I remember picking up RED FACTION back in 2002 for christmas with my spanking new PS2!! i was soo excited to play it but the game was scratched and it didn't work at all i was fucking pissed!!! and now im more mad knowing that i didn't play this badassery of a game.
Got this on day one. It was a launch title. So fucking great. Going to dig this up some time soon and play through it.
Bought this game back in July for 2 quid on the ps3 store still loved it.
One the of the best games ever! I got it a couple days after it came out and it's definatly my favorite FPS to date. Great review by the way, I wish I could find my copy of Red Faction though! It's somewhere in my house...
I got a drinking game, take a drink whenever mark either says flamethrower, or uses one in a game
Every person that ever played Earthworm Jim. Has to take a sip. That goldfish was clearly not fighting back. :D
Great recommendation Mark! I picked it up for 4 bucks from ebay and played all the way though. Very challenging for me but I really made use of that save anywhere feature.

Red Faction 1 is one of my favourite shooters ever.
4:02 Oh, looks like the mutated worm from Resident Evil 3 and Code Veronica has a cameo in this game too :D
haha i guess it is pretty cliche
And that whole Ultor thing started out as a clothing company XD
8:01 ROFL!! That's a scream!
@Kousaburo is it only for the ps2? im too lazy to look it up
ebay. i went on there the day after the first review and picked up a nice used copy shipped for like 8 bucks.
The first episode of CGR i saw was the review of GTA 2. And i haven't seen (or heard) Dave in most of the reviews after that. Where'd he go anyway?
asome review i bought red faction a few days after the first part of the review and loved it beat it in 2 days. i was wondering why u didnt talk about the multi player
thanks a lot
All of this from a PS2 launch game!
Ps2 launched in 2000 not 2001, maybe it did come out in 2000 and, he was the one making the mistake
These are the best reviews cause he shows us gameplay in a much better way.
This game was and still is one of the best!!!!
Dude, I loved everything about this game. It had great music, it was a long game, plus it just loaded like Halfe-Life (no stages). Such a lovely game. I can only hope there is a remake.
Watching this gameplay made me remember how satisfying it was to lay waste with the Precision Rifle.
I forget if it was this one or the 2nd one but I remember getting the fusion rocket launcher and having SOO much fun with it !
Seriously one of the best single player FPS games I've played. Miss this title. Have it somewhere in my mess of adolescence.
Awesome game, awesome review!
I will no doubt get this if they do the emulation for ps4. alongside canis canem edit as well.
great review man. Please keep them coming.
its actually still my favorite game
Awesome video! *drinks more beer* All hail the Cobra Infrastructure!
9:50 projectile weapons in a space station? good way to turn the station into a siev, rail guns especially, id use a ray gun or a tazer, a gun that shoots tazer rounds that wont damage the hull. is the precision rifle any good in this game? I only use the heavy machine gun and the rocket launchers and the rail gun. and I hate the mercs with the rail guns in this game 1 shot kills.
you're saying people still paly red faction online? I never played it for online purposes though.
wow i like your sence of humor, oh yeah do you prefer red faction, red faction 2 or red faction guerrilla
hey should i get Red Faction 2 with this one? or just buy Hotpursuit 2 and RF 1
I think i remember the train part
all games should be this awesome. thanks for bringin back the good memories.
btw, the multiplayer is good fun too
man the new first person shooter games may have better mechanics and graphics but they fail to reach the lvl of fun and enjoyment these older ps2 era fps had with this game and timesplitters
1:43 Hurray for hit & run action! Great funky tunes too.
CGR, who does your intro music?
best game on ps2 red faction or timesplitters cant make up my mind

I had so much fun with this game back in the days. :)
best game on ps2, I love the game play and the enviromental sound rocks!
@TibGaming It is spectacular Isn't it! I guess they were able to have destructible landscapes in the first 2 games was because they were completely linear! we'll just have to wait and see what kind of geomod they have in Red Faction Armageddon.
@Krahna i wonder what happens if halo reach was made with geo mod
odd? the "watch in high quality" option just appeared at 9.00 (ish)
Anyone know how long it is? I'm going to be getting it soon! I was curious.
FYI, these graphics WERE next gen back at the time. it's like saying rhe same about uncharted 4, which has the REAL next gen graphics of the 8th gen consoles.

@BrockAlexander Wasn't that on the N64?
Kapek sounds eerily like Winnie the Pooh in the old Disney cartoons.
Brilliant game. Cool Mars set 1player and proper blow evreything up as quick as you can multiplayer.
how do i get it to look that good when i play?
I just like to run over S*** and say I blew the transaxial. Omg I love your reviews and thought the first part of this video was boring but part 2 is fucking hilarious.
you are absolute right! every game after that was big disapointment!!!! :(
Excellent game. i still have this. Assault rifle is a personal favorite! at least until u get to the elite mercs.....then u have to rely on the precision rifle, heavy mg, rail driver, and fusion rocket launcher.

OK. u win. only 5 on eBay. delivery in 5 days.
these reviews reminded me why I freaking luved this game wen it came out. torrenting rite nao! =D
precision rifel and assault rifle to me were always in hand! if not, it was the rockets.....rail gun does become a great deal of help especially when facing the elite guards and mercinaries
@masterDJ32 hell they did with Resident Evil, why not RF? :D
I totally agree: although the graphics look a bit dated the game is a lot of fun and you're completely sucked into it, as you said it's like being in a Paul Verhoeven movie!
Anybody got any comments on Red Faction 2 (as compared to the good old Red Faction of 2001)?

i just picked this game up yesterday for like 6 bucks and it's AWESOME. fills my half life style game craving so much
Best Review Ever!!! So much fun!
Cant wait to see, Red Faction: Guerrilla, in June.
BAM, that's a drink BAM, that's a drink BAM, that's a drink.
this was my first PS2 game when i was a kid, best first game ever!
On Steam it says it has multiplayer.
Is it online? And does anyone play it?
RF1 is the best RF for PS2 but I wish there wasnt a geo mod limit. maybe if i get the game for PC with tons of memory and then ill download the geo mod limit removal mod.
I used to have this game for PC many years ago and to be fair I loved it. game play, graphics, storyline, characters etc. shame RF 2 werent as good!!
precision rifle is the best gun in the game lol
Red Faction and Halo: Combat Evolved were both released in 2001, isn’t that crazy?
hey mark i did get it it is really cool thx for the review if it wernt for this video i would not have got this cool game :)
