Well put! This is part of why it's so annoying that both movies were given the same name. They deserve separate identities, cuz like you said, they're different pieces. Determining which one is better is just a bit of fun, even though I recognize that it is kinda an "apples and oranges" situation
* If they ever wake up one day, and a thought occurs to one of the decision-makers in the form of "Hey.....somebody should do, like, a sequel to that one movie....um....what's this called again? Um....oh yea....Thing.", then they'll have to decide which one to do a sequel of. For instance, if they did a sequel of the 1982 one, MacReady's shack wasn't destroyed, and it had its own furnace. MacReady still had Gary's revolver. He could try to shoot Childs gas tank, blowing him up and setting him on fire. Then all he'd have to do is wait for the rescue helicopter. * If they decided to do a sequel of the 2011 Thing movie, Kate Lloyd was driving a snowcat toward a Russian base, and the sequel could begin where she is arriving at the Russian base, but she doesn't speak a word of Russian, and the Russians at the base don't speak a word of English, and there's something else, Kate was infected but she didn't even realize it, and was taken over(like Norris was in the original film) while enroute to the Russian base. Are there any survivors? Do they manage to get out a call for help? Cue the music............
This definitely one of if not the Best Horror film ever made. I happen to share your desensitivity to horror however it is the Paranoia and the Fear of being killed and having your body running around killing your friends that makes this movie scary
I liked both movies especially the original, the only thing I didn’t like about the 2011 prequel was the ending when Kate left what happened to her but I love how they merged the helicopter scene with the original movie 👍🏼
I agree with you. Which is why I'm confused why both movies are always compared. One clearly leads onto the other. The prequel added depth to the original
I like both movies. The prequel leads into the original. It doesn't need to be compared much. They are two pieces of the puzzle and not the same piece

@@ItsAlxlthey should've at the very least added a subtitle to the Title of the Prequel.
1982 without discussion.
Carpenter's version. Nothing even comes close.
IMHO, The Thing from Another World, 1951, outshines both later versions in many regards, not least of which is the score by Tiomkin.
"Who gets 'thinged' by the dog?"
1982 version
1951. No contest.

1982, it's a masterpiece.

What about the 1950's version with James Arness as the Thing?
