you're so kind and generous.. most people put everything on patreon these days.. having no money its a real barrier for me. Thanks for sharing, your vids are great
You can see Harry's a nice, good man because you've captured that. He's also strong, stable and steady and has seen stormy times. I'm sure he would have been very pleased with it.
My mother just passed away. Now you inspired me to paint her. She was from the Netherlands and lived the most of her life in Canada raising 5 children. She too was a devout Christian and she showed it in everything that she did.
Sorry for your loss Renee, after 32 years in Canada I am now in the Netherlands and wanting to paint my mom too, while she's still alive. Would love to know how your painting came out.
I haven't started the painting for my mom but am working on a painting for another woman who lost her Dad and will include items from his life including six heads of wheat to signify his six children, and grandchildren including some of his hobbies.
I used to think of painting so different, I thought what can beat a great photo...but there is something deeper to a painting, good you bring people to life this way.
Andrew, I am so sorry your family has lost Harry. Your video is a beautiful tribute to him. You are simply the best. Very, very awesome painting that truly captured his loving heart.
You sir, are a god of paint. The way you create your mixes tells everything of your expertise. Your brush strokes are full of inspiration and your presentation is infectious making people want to grab a set of brushes and paint and do what you do. Thank you for bringing color and creativity to other artists around the world, making our lives more meaningful.
how sad harry didnt get to see this amazing record of the man he is. thank you for sharing this with us andrew. very sorry for you and your family's loss.
the way u teach and verbalize your techniques... let the audience' mind fill in the details.. save the white/tonal? for last.. paint the eyes at the end coz it finally unveils the character of the person and will make the whole process worth it.. and finally u reminded me of the reason why we paint--- to tell a story. this is something i always forget especially when im caught into the rush of proving myself to others or pleasing the audience or just plain painting because i want to see if i can do it. u r one of the best art teachers iv known so far
I’m twice your age and you’ve become an inspiration for me. Your initial under painting is a rock solid under lay for your final piece, it reminds me of how a home is built a solid foundation up to a detailed chimney. Oh, by the way New Zealand is the best kept secret on this planet. What a Gem you have there.
throughout the process of your painting I felt as though we, the audience, got to know Harry a bit as well. I did also feel that he was no longer with us, unfortunately. though I am saddened for your loss, I do praise your celebration of his personality and influence on you through your portrait of Harry. thank you for sharing those intimate aspects of your life and thank you for your willingness to share your gained knowledge and guidance.
Wow. I'm sure you've heard this a million times but you are a master portrait painter. Harry came out amazing! What a lovely painting of him to remember him by.
I love your wisdom on painting subjects that inspire you , it's great advice . Not only are you great at explaining technique and producing amazing portraits but you're also very well spoken about the personal side of art. Thank you for letting us get to know Harry a bit. May he rest in piece. xx
Thanks. Thanks for so many things. Close ups of brush strokes. Explaining in depth strokes, blending, and mixing. Excellent teaching. So glad I found this.
Andrew, your portraits are great, what I admire most about your work is that you paint without a previous drawing and you are not afraid to cover the color that you have already achieved; that is something that I have not been able to overcome. Regards.
I always adore how sharp your observation, patience, the time you spend to explain, choice of subject to paint, choice of color that require sort of feeling. Watching your videos are like a therapy, thanks :) :)
This actually made me shed a tear. Walking the viewer through your thought process in what you wanted to say about Harry in this portrait, was extremely helpful. You are such a gifted artist! Thank you for your generosity.
TRULY HELPFUL! I am painting the portrait of my mentor of 51 years. He passed in 2012, and really, I’ve been so close to the loss for the time since that only now am I able to realize how important it is for me to memorialize him before I am too old (I’m only 72). He was a great man to many people and my portrait will be donated to the foundation that he left to benefit secondary education for secondary students, high schools, and especially to help gifted and well-motivated students to get the excellent support they deserve. I was a teen when my mentor reached out to me, and your painting techniques are exactly what I’ve been trying to articulate as what I need to do my mentor’s portrait justice. Thanks Andrew! -Glenn
I love how you explain about your grandfather in law portraits and how you use the Tischy brushes.i think I was waiting for this video, since I got the new brushes I can start painting with your help. Thank you Andrew.👍🎨
I'm absolutely thankful for everything I've learnt from you si far...most of the videos I watched many times. I have one question: I see you painting with sunglasses..which color do they have? How are you able to mix the right color with them on? I would appreciate your advice..
I'm convinced that artists like you see the world in paint strokes. It's amazing how you start with blobs of paint here and there and it turns into an unbelievable masterpiece. You must have a template with all the colors in your mind when you look at something. You have great talent given to you by God. You are special.
Thanks a lot. Each video not only how to paint, but also who is or was the person on the portrait. It's like watching an episode from your favorite program. Roll on the next video!
First of all I love your work and your perfectionism in doing small drawings or thumb nails of a project before painting. You have sent a higher bar for an artist to achieve the best of their work. Your portraits I absolutely think are incredible my favorite is of the horse and the worker, as well as the one in this video. I live across the pond in the southwest where I am close to Native Americans and I attend their celebrations, and their artwork fesativals in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I agree with what you say to paint people closer to one rather than a movie star or someone distant to us. I find this resonates with paintings I like to do concerning the subject of Native American elders and people that are interesting, the lines in their face, the color of their eyes maybe having a cast of a pearly color that surrounds their iris showing years of living, and the lines of their faces that show them reflecting the terrain that surrounds then in crevices of the mountains and the arid climate of the badlands in South Dakota, where I once lived. Thank you for all you, do a very appreciative fan.
I painted a friend who’d passed away (from a photo ) & I think it’s one of the best portraits I’ve done . It hangs next to 20 celebrity portraits but has never received one comment. I’ve found People always praise a painting of their favourite celebrity but ignore ones they don’t know. So there’s a good reason many of us paint known faces. Very enjoyable video 👍
Is it about the praise or the inherent artistic and intrinsic quality of the work that matters? What about your personal satisfaction as the artist? Hmmm. Thanks for the comment!
Andrew Tischler definitely not about the praise, I paint people I like & would never paint something purely for adulation. My observation is purely on reaction to my work from non artistic people. I don’t know any other artists , but I would imagine their comments would be entirely different.
In my opinion, this is one of your best works. It really conveys a naturalistic look and mood. No artificial colours. Congratulations! The very initial stages in themselves are beautiful works of art when and where the character of the lovely old man is already there. 👍
Beautifully executed portrait, sensitively honoring your loved one! Yes they mean the most. I just finished one I started 20 years ago after finding your site and learning how to polish the final steps - I've never been more proud to present a portrait after struggling so long to learn. Your teaching is brilliant and generous. Blessings and many thanks for sharing the story with it.
I love the format of your videos. It's good that you make sure to know your subjects when you paint them. You really show that skill. I admire you for it.
I am in awe of your expertise. Your demonstrations are explained as beautifully as your work. I particularly enjoy your manner, as it is easy to see you paint the character not just the surface. Thank you so very much Andrew. A true inspiration.
You are an extremely skilled human being. I feel the audacity of your talent has become numb to you, due to your eagerness to teach such great lessons. For that I thank you.
You are an amazing artist as well as instructor! I can not say enough how much I appreciate your detailed teaching techniques. Your work is breath taking and I am so thankful I stumbled upon your channel!!!!
I love your style. The photo-realism that seems so popular right now is cool but I don't feel it conveys the same emotion that more 'painterly' works do. Your work really makes me feel the strength and warmth of your wonderful subject. Thanks so much for the great video!
Another amazing tutorial Andrew. There is nothing that you can't paint, all the subjects that you have shared with us, shows how much talent you have. You really are a modern day master and I hope that you know how good you really are.
...the painting is good in its own right, but the quality, in my opinion, resides in the intelligent explanation of what is done on the surface. Surprisingly few videos succeed in this respect. This one is standing out. My respects...
Another superb painting with great tuition. You included the approximate painting time. Many people forget that we get 20-30 minutes but the fact it’s really 50-100 hours shows why my 3 hours cannot be great. Thanks
Great! Love the texture too, seeing the brush strokes for me brings the painting to life. You've captured not only his likeness, but i bet his personality too!
A portrait to me is one of the hardest things I have ever tried to paint. What a nice finished painting. Andrew thank you for a lesson I will give it try.
I have begun to paint again after 30 years, and I am absolutely mesmerized by your work. I don't know what I want to paint first but you have definitely inspired me. And I love that dagger brush!
Thank you for sharing your work on painting Harry. I love seeing your work and certainly I learn a lot from it but most of all I enjoyed the narratives about Harry.

Wow. It started coming alive within minutes. You're incredible at this.
Great !! We feel the presence of the gentleman in the painting. It's extraordinary !!
Your love for him shines through the marvelous work!
Wow, Incredible! I think I could watch and listen to you for hours. Your 'Story telling' tips and tricks are truly inspiring. Thank you

Just met Andrew and his work impressed me.A REAL Artist and a very nice person for sure.
That's absolutely incredible how you layer the colours and he starts popping out so early on . I'm inspired . Pure amazement

Wow, you dont just paint. You give your whole heart and full passion to whatever you do. Im so inspired and grateful i watched this. Thank you 🙏🏻
Hi Andrew I am very impressed by the quality of the video and by the emotion that comes from the story of Harry so well told by you Andrew.

Dear Andrew, if there is one piece of advice I can give other artist and myself, always learn from quality teachers - like you!! Love your work!

I've said it 100x before but I'll say it again- I think you're amazing Andrew.
Wonderful painting as usual and wonderful speech given by your relative ........ "Always buy good tools". Thank u.
Im happy I found these videos. I am just starting to paint and want to paint my Father's portait. Thanks for these videos.

More than the painting, the story behind the subject is fantastic! In addition, it is a wonderful work!
Beautiful story ..and wonderful painting
I like how you explain your portrait that colors you use to make it so realistic ... it's fantastic!
I love your style. The photo-realism that seems so popular right now is cool but I don't feel it conveys the same emotion that more 'painterly' works do. Your work really makes me feel the strength and warmth of your wonderful subject. Thanks so much for the great video!
Oh Andrew, this is very very fantastic ...I love it so very much

BRAVO!!! Fabulous work! Thanks for sharing your talent, skill, insight and process!
A master of oil painting, Andrew tischler
Absolutely superb thank you Andrew
Excellent lesson. So many artists can't seem to articulate what their process is. You do this very well. Beautiful work.
Outstanding video, especially the dialogue about Harry. What a character. "Always buy quality tools." HA! Perfectly practical advice. :)
Another superb painting with great tuition. You included the approximate painting time. Many people forget that we get 20-30 minutes but the fact it’s really 50-100 hours shows why my 3 hours cannot be great. Thanks
