I reserved a ride shortly after starting to use Uber. I had an early operation scheduled at the hospital and didn't want to hassle anyone to wake up so early. So I paid the extra for a reservation. My driver arrived late. While waiting for him to arrive I kept checking Uber and other drivers were close, even at that early hour. I never reserved again. If there's no guarantee of being on time, it makes zero sense in my area.
I could see how that's a problem. 💯 Thanks for sharing your story. Unfortunately, "Reserved Rides" as a rider are not perceived in the same light as of the driver. Depending on the time of day, distance or ride, passenger rating.... drivers may not be available or even desire to take you as a rider. There are many benitis for drivers.... but I agree. If you need to be somewhere "like a surgery ".... Don't put your eggs in the UBER basket.
I reserved a 3 am ride to an airport once to make sure I was able to get there on time. My original driver canceled well in advance and I was rebooked automatically. The second driver arrived on time and informed me that it was his first Uber trip. That seems to support your theory that reservation opportunities are offered to new drivers. As a side note, my driver started falling asleep at the wheel on the way to the airport. It was super sketchy, and I felt lucky to make it to my destination without incident. Drivers: *please* don’t accept rides at off hours unless you are alert and can make the trip safely.
