we have a eurozone visa... meaning we are not fully asimilated in EU... but we are there for the past 20 years we only needed to adopt the Euro currency, but political interest made sure that will not happen. so while technically u are correct... u are also incorrect... we are part of the countries in eurozone or europe gang... but like a border outsider, that needs 1 more vote to be fully embraced as a member, even though europe milked us dry for workforce and taxes... while also we milked them for non-refundable funds, which evaporated.... so quid pro quo...

The support from Romania to Ukraine is much larger than the grain corridor: donation of a Patriot system, training of pilots for F16, export of diesel and gasoline, export of electricity. However, it is true that the Romanian voters are fed-up with the corruption and miss-management of the main parties: PSD (socialists) and PNL (rather conservatives, members of EPP).

Romanians are not opposed to the EU or NATO; rather, they are concerned about the imposition of certain Western agendas in Romania, such as cancel culture, changes in the school curriculum, and concepts like "parent 1 and 2." Issues such as wokeness and LGBTQ+ rights are perceived by some as external influences that may not align with traditional Romanian values.

    • @V45194
      @V45194 10 часов назад

Respecting the *equal* rights of *all* citizens, including members of minority groups (such as LGBTQ+), is not "wokeness" but basic human decency and, more to the point of this video, a foundational principle of democracy. Civil society is completely incompatible with the scapegoating of arbitrarily selected (albeit always comparatively powerless) minorities; furthermore, manufacturing and inflaming such phobias has been the main tool for some of the most ruthless dictators in history to seize power. Putin and his minions are themselves complaining about "cancel culture" and "wokeness," and have for the past 15+ years been calling Europe ("Yevropa" in standard Russian) "Gayropa" instead, ostensibly to make it sound decadent and scary in contrast with the "wholesome" (and oh so straight...) image of "mother Russia," ruled by the "savior of Christendom" Putin - cuz being ruled by a KGB poisoner and war criminal is apparently better than being "woke"... Anyway, I am concerned that some of those who claim to care about "traditional Romanian values" (or "traditional Bulgarian values" south of the Danube, etc.) are instead acting as Putin's useful idiots. Greetings from Bulgaria!

As a Romanian, I wanted Lasconi to win, because she is pro-EU and pro-NATO. However, I am glad that the vote was nullified and postponed. In my view, any candidate that so much as utters anything that can be perceived as being "pro-Russian", should be automatically disqualified. The question of not supporting NATO is unthinkable. Only Romanians who are pro-west should be on the ballot.

Yeah great content, wrong about pretty much everything, using romania as an anti russia scapegoat even though the elections in romania were canceled because we basically have only 1 party which rules romania and they didn't like the result. they didnt have any proof that Russia was involved. Since PSD and PNL merged they can pretty much do whatever.... they controll the justice, media, army..... it's a joke to try to unseat them. But somehow romanians still live under the false sense of democracy. Same with other so called ''european'' parties. they don't hesitate to govern with PSD whenever there is a chance. so it's a done deal, Romania won't exist as a democracy in our life times, not when 1 of the candidates gets thrown out like a dog for no reason.

But the most important thing is THAT THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN BRAINWASHED BY CONSTANT REPETITION ON THE TIKTOK PLATFORMS of 30 second videos for this GUY , these people that i'm talking about are telling me that everything that i hear OUTSIDE TIKTOK (& i quoate a friend of mine "the only real truth is on TIKTOK" + he made me a blind idiot) - TIKTOK the platfrom created in a dictatorship country China. P.S.>>> My grandmother was hiding in the corn fields to not get murdered and raped by Russian soldiers when she was a teenage girl in WW2 + russians never did anything good for us or the other small eastern european countries & it's funny that we have so many people that ignore this history and want to befriend - murderous Russia.

      @RichardThompson-wc3kx 6 часов назад +1

@MrJoergenfoged Yes. By he I meant Georgescu not Josh. I also live in Romania so know a lot more background details like.
      1. Georgescu had the help of Trump's Digital Marketing Manager. He has also been portrayed as favourable to the legionnaires who fought Russia in WW2 and as too much of a Romanian nationalist. You can't have it both ways. He is a Romania-first guy, with support from the American right. He is pro EU and NATO but wants to negotiate in the national interest.
      2. Half the video was speculation on how Georgescu could be problematic for Ukraine and NATO, so it was okay the election was cancelled. He was going for Romanian President not Ukrainian or NATO. Shouldn't the Romanian people decide?
      3. He was projected to win the second round in a landslide. Latest poll had him at 63% and early e
      diaspora votes were around 80%.
      4. Cost of living was a big issue. Romanians are also pro peace, pro family values and very patriotic. So he gathered support. He won the populists, disillusioned and PSD vote, who could not support their rivals USR.
      5. He was more experienced. In tough times, who would you vote for? An experienced Diplomat and leader in Sustainable Development at the UN or a TV anchor then mayor of 27.5 people?
      6. Ciolacu spent 11m on his campaign. Lasconi spent 7m. They were all over billboards, TV and social media and had vast impressions across all channels. Georgescu went viral as he was an outsider, had a patriotic message people liked and had a smarter campaign strategy (helped by Americans)
      7. The Constitutional Court banned another nationalist candidate in what Politico called a Putin style authoritarian ruling, condemned by most parties as an over reach. Georgescu was able to fill that gap and sweet up her voters for free. This was not Russian interference but Romanian.
      8. The whole TikTok influence info was actually funded by a Romanian business man who funded multiple political causes and parties. He was investigated and released. His contribution towards Georgescu was 381k euros. 5% of Lasconi's total spend.
If we don't want European candidates to be like Russia, stop cancelling elections like they do!
We don't want ANY foreign interference. Not from Russia, not from America, not from Ukraine or the EU (whose leaders endorsed s candidate)
Have a debate, give people equal time and visibility then let people vote. I am very wary about some of what Georgescu says to be clear but as an analyst, it is easy to see how he won people over, if you understand local concerns and this video lacked key information to spin it at a particular way.

Many people are not happy with the current economical situation even though being part of EU helped Romania a lot and EU and NATO is by far the best option that Romania needs to follow. The fact that Romania and Bulgaria were not accepted into the Schengen zone by Austria for political reasons also increased the Euroscepticism. Tik-Tok videos promising a great revolution helped this anonymous candidate win the first round but then people went out for protests against him and press brought out who he actually was. There were low chances that he could win the 2nd (and final) round but the best decision was taken, not to take the risks and revoke the elections. Still, extremists parties managed to gather @30% in the parliamentary elections.
It is very important that reforms are made inside EU and all members have a better feeling that being part of this economical alliance has a great benefit for everyone, so that the extremist parties popularity shrink.

@@ovibrz but what does not help is the EU fuelling this development by forcing the established parties to speedrun the introduction of rainbow policies in societies that are not ready for it. Women with beards are not worth accelerating the decline of democracies, imho.

@@ovibrz and I am not convinced at all that cancelling election results that the establishment does not like is a good idea. It seems rather clear that this is only adding more fuel to the fire. People who are not satisfied were always told they could vote. Now they do vote, and their votes get cancelled!! Putin does not even need to spread fake conspiracy theories anymore, as reality speaks for itself. At the same time, this anti-democratic move is likely to encourage established parties in other countries to try and repeat it, thus ending democracy in Europe.

"founded by Russia". Really? The fact that the EU kept Romania at Schengen door for 14 years even tho we meet all the criteria. The fact that romanians are treated as second class citizens in the EU makes me sick. EU itself is increasing euro skepticism in Romania by how they treat us.

he declared zero campaign funds, yet secret services uncovered tens of millions in a giant tiktok network + millions in paying off influencers to campaign for him.
those funds were external, he broke the law, he barely got 22% of the votes and would`ve been crushed in the 2nd round anyway.
beyond this, the next parliament is super-majority pro-western and the next government is 100% pro-western.

Romania would be the poorest country in the Eurozone, as you say, IF it were in the Eurozone. which it is not. That's a minor inaccuracy on your part. You've also presented Georgescu's campaign as having been financed by Russia, when this link has yet to be drawn by the intelligence community and the conclusion reached by the constitutional court was based on assumptions that it was, rather than hard facts. And this is all to say that while I for one am relieved that this candidate was blocked from achieving an all but certain victory in the presidential election, and going on to cripple the country's economy and defense, still the constitutionality of the constitutional court's decision to block him is a very hot topic at the moment

  • @lacsativ1

As a Romanian, this video is pretty accurate, with the exception of Romania being in the Eurozone. That said, I'll also double down on this point because you only mentioned it at the end of the video - by far the biggest reason why people voted for Georgescu is because they are fed up with the current political class, especially the two parties who have been in power for years now, PSD and PNL. That's something that we can all agree with, even those of us who are opposed to Georgescu.
This hatred towards the political class clouds the judgement, and many people chose to ignore much of the controversy surrounding Georgescu. The vast majority allied behind his claim that he is fully independent and will restructure the current political system.
You can debate Georgescu voters online - some of them are indeed nationalists, some of them are EU-skpetics (though I've never seen any who are explicitly Pro-Russia), but their biggest argument by far boils down to voting for Georgescu because they simply don't trust any candidate who has direct political affiliation.
Russia's influence is one thing, but the reason it worked in a country that has historically been so skeptical of Russia is because the political class has done a very poor job over the last decade. We've gotten very good at de-masking corruption over the last few years as well, so now the population is very much aware of the shortcomings of the political class, probably more than ever, and people want to see things being addressed at a fundamental level.
Hopefully, we can arrive at that level of change without compromising our ideals and giving in to Russian influence and questionable doctrine in the process.

Thank you for a fair and reasonable analysis. The other key reason is experience. Ideology aside, Georgescu has decades of experience in geo strategy, diplomacy and Sustainable Development. Lasconi was a TV anchor then mayor of 27.5 people who broke up a marriage, Simion is 38 and a provacateur not a President.
Geoana had experience too but Georgescu was more pro-peace.
Most centrists were polling to switch to him in Round 2, especially given a USR and PSD rivalry.
