That Laney sounds lovely
It is so nice sounding!
Super lead sounds the most pleasing, orange the warmest as usual. Laney had a nice fuzzy tone to it! I liked the hiwatt because it had a unique distortion that was unlike the others. jcm 800 cuts through the mix!
The Laney blows me away! What an uncontrolled beast! Love the JTM45 too.
The same video with one fuzz plugged in front of these amps would be awesome !

I noticed that the Matamp and Bassman Fuzzlord amps were approximately equal, but the Laney and Marshall had significant fizzy noise.

JCM 800 & the Laney. The Super Lead is good too. The weakest by far is the Hi-Watt.

I have the JCM 800. Bought it for that 80s thrash tone. My "doom amp" is (surprisingly) my EVH 5150 6L6. That blue channel is a treasure trove of gain and tones. I rarely see it mentioned for "doom" amps. I think it would be a fun addition to vid like this if you ever do another one.
My brother, I have the 800 and a 6505, get a splitter and two cabs and play them both at once with a fuzz pedal it's bliss.
I love the Fuzzlord FTW120 the best, the Laney second choice.
That Laney AOR is straight disrespectful, and I'm all for it. I'm also a huge Orange fan, so the OR is great to me. I am pretty sure that I just need to get all six of these amps

FTW 45 sounded cool. I have a JCM 800 that is my go to amp, very cool to hear them all in a row like this. Also just picked up a Void Master last week, freaking killer pedal, love it! Thanks for all your great work!

All sounded great as they should and what they were modeled after. My top picks in no specific order...The Laney (fuzzy), The Marshall JCM 800 (crisp), and the FTW 45 (I own a bassman 50, my fav amp). The Super Lead sounded like a gigantic beast! All sounded great. Thank you.

I have a GH30R-112 combo and its a beast! One can dial in poweramp and preamp distortion independently to get your mix of the 2 types of distortion just right. I run a DOD Carcosa in the front of it with a Squier Tele loaded with a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the bridge, and its DOOM HEAVEN! Tones of low end, nice and thick distortion and very very versatile.

Hey, watching from Durango, MX - A few years ago I had the chance to play through a JCM900 with only a Blues Driver in front of it, and it was a very surprising combination. Not the 'traditional' doom tones, but it was still heavy yet articulate, and maybe even worth recommending it to all fellow doomers out there (the lower output Epiphone pickups played a big role too, I think)? Anyway, I've always liked the Marshall sound, so out of the amps featured on this video, the JCM800 won my ears and heart haha! Cheers!

I like the AOR and FTW 45 the best, the JCM 800 and Super Lead is also very cool. Love the angry aggressive AOR gain.
Unfortunatly the AORs are getting pretty expensive these days, I've seen used ones for over a 1k, I got mine for 300 bucks. Only downside of the AORs is that they are super noisy.
You should do a Fuzzlord AOR style amp or pedal, that would be super awesome!
Laneys are getting so expensive! This one was my Dad's and remember going with him to a Pawn Shop about 20 years ago when he got it. I think he paid $150 for it!

The AOR 50 is my favorite. I’ve been after one for a while. Got to grab one for sure.
Orange OR120 is one of my favorite amps. I grabbed the head and 4x12 a couple years ago for about $2200 and figured I’d just sell them. THE Eric Johnson came check out the 4x12 because he was interested in the speakers but wound up passing because he wanted a specific production code or something?
Wound up selling the amp to some asshole on reverb that said it was broken and forced me to take a return on it. I sent him a video when I got it back and was like “it works great” and he was like “oh you must be using a boost.” I kept telling him you just have to crank it but I think when his wife found out how much he paid for it he had to pretend it was broken to return it or something.

Man, that Laney did sound amazing! The Super Lead as well. However, I reckon any of these would sound fairly amazing with a Void Master pushing it.

I really like that FTW 45 amp sound.
I love the Matamp\Orange stuff. I don't know if I'd pick that one over the others. I'd have to play them. Sound bites are only so informative before you gotta see how it responds to how you play. But, yeah, old Orange amps are fucking awesome.
The JCM800 as always slays it.
Personally I've been running a Laney GHR series with the ability to blend in more power amp distortion. OCD > RAT > Laney with the pre gain and power amp distortion is amazing.

Hi there watching in Edinburgh, Scotland. I'm a big fan of the old OR120 Orange/Matamp style amps. I currently own an Orange OR100 reissue that I really like. I'm hoping to pair it up with a Green Matamp GT120MV when I can afford to!
I have a lot of "favorite" vintage amps hahaha. I would have a hard time to chose between my Sunn Concert Lead and the Acoustic 450 for the Solid State amps.
My favorite vintage tube amp is my Ampeg V4, but I owned much less vintage tube amps than vintage SS amps.
Very cool selection of amps. Would Love to hear an old Sovtek Mig-100(h) in here too.

@@FuzzlordEffects I managed to stumble across one at my local guitar store recently, and took it home as an anniversary present from my wife. Now I know why people say these things are so loud! I got the 100h (high gain version), and it's killer. It sounded good at the store through the cheap Marshall cab and sounded even better when I hooked it up to my Recto cab. Add a TS9 and you're in 80's thrash heaven. (Even though they were made in the early-mid 90s). A lot of people say that they are like a JCM800, and I can definitely hear that, but they also have their own vibe. The 6L6 power tubes do their thing, and it's awesome! Hope you get your hands on one!

my favourite amp is the electric amp head..such an explosive head! smocking tone! i like the hiwatt/fuzzlord too, and the laney because i have the 100 watt version from 1989.

Yeah I do LOVE the Matamp gt120 and the Orange or120. They are probably my favourite circuits. They do sound very similar with the right settings. The Matamp can do bassy and open tones a bit better and it sounds harsher overall. The Or120 does aggressive mins very well and it's a bit mellower. Analogy: The Matamp is more RAT fuzztortion personality the Orange is more Big Muff Pi fuzz personality.
Late for the party, but would be great to see something cheap like Orange CR120 compared with those beasts ;). I remember you had one CR back in the day :).
AOR, Had one, would love to get one again, or a Peavey Windsor, but love my JMP, and starting to dig the clean channel on a Crush Pro Head

I think the vintage orange 120 is my personal favorite amp for doom, i’d also say it just tied with the green FTW 45, which i didn’t see on the site.

I'm really glad I snagged an AOR 50 last year; I have much more expensive amps but it's honestly my favorite in its own way. The JCM 800 is fantastic but too midrangy on it's own for me as far as dooming. Easy fix with a pedal or two though.

What’s your opinion on the Sound City 120 used by Electric Wizard? I’ve seen some people say it’s great, others say it wasn’t even designed properly.
Super Lead and AOR really stand out IMO.

The Orange style amps are the warmest sounding. But i am biased because i own some Orange amps ; ). A Thunderverb 200 and a GRO100 from 73. You should check out the Orange GRO100. It has less gain than a OR120. Its kind of a forgotten Orange amp .
And if anybody comes across old Carlsbro amps from the early 70s. Buy them! they are dirt cheap . But inside they have huge Partridge transformers . And they have tons of clean headroom. Even the 60 watt version. And you can get then as a 120 watt as well. And the 200watt P.A head version is great for bass
Hope you don't mind a few questions about the Laney AOR. How does the 100w AOR compare to the 50w? Does these sound good at low volume if you use an attenuator and crank the master volume, for home playing? Can the gain be tightened up with a pedal? Also, does the AOR has the big low end like the Orange Rockerverbs do? I know prices have gone up, and people use to get them because they were cheap, but what would you consider a reasonable price for it these days? Thanks!

I think the FTW45 is my favorite (May have to unload some gear to finance one), the FTW120 would indeed be a great pedal platform & it would be cool to see a 60watt version. I have to go against the grain and say that the AOR is not my taste also wasn’t crazy about the Super Lead.

The JCM 800 wins imo, what ever winning means. Though the FL103 wasn’t my favorite, I love the tone profile and gain stage of the amp as an amp, but maybe not for doom personally. Holy fuck it sounds good.

I like the plexi clone the most. Dirty, bold and chaotic yet a lot of clarity. The AOR sounds really fat. I also like the JCM 800 a lot but a single channel model played really loud might lend itself to doom even better. I guess more like the Plexi but more gain. Especially love the JMP ones but they're all great amps.

I have a Superlead but I actually prefer a dsl especially the 2000 for band practice and hopefully gigs soon the 100watter is God like (for bedroom the 1watter is a nice budget option).
They are all some great amps but I like the Laney aor 50 and Fuzzlord FTW 120 the best

It’s funny an amp can sound so good on its own but when you mix with the rest of the band my favorite parts of the tones end up getting EQ’d out.

There are also countless of instances where a guitar sounds like shit (on it's own) but rips in a mix.
Playing in your (bed)room will VERY LIKELY make you add too much bass and cut all the mids. But you need to do the opposite in a band situation.
P.S. One DOOM amp I would like to own (but is hard to get in Europe) is a Sunn Model T (Spirit Caravan, Sleep, Goatsnake)
