Thanks for coming to Stockport and I am so glad you enjoyed your visit. There is indeed always plenty to see and of course the story goes that an 1840 Act of Parliament stated that all passenger trains must stop at the station. Sadly this has been shown to be an urban myth but it does have common currency in the town as an uproar demonstrated in 2007 when plans were made by Arriva Cross Country to reduce the number of Manchester to Birmingham trains stopping in Stockport by 50%!
I really did enjoy my time here it was an excellent station to film at and one that I'm definitely going to be coming back to and hopefully under more favourable weather conditions :) I must admit I wasn't aware that Cross Country had reduced it's number of services or the act in parliament which orders all commuter trains to stop here. But thanks very much for the information
I've seen Cleethorpes not in person but from Top Gear and it looks like a nice place also one of my friends on Facebook works for Cross Country he's an Edinburgh Based Driver but in the 80's and early 90's he was a fireman for South African Railways his name is Richard Niven and he likes driving HST's instead of Voyagers and one last thing do you know if Cross Country still operates The Dorset Scot or not if you can get back to me it would be greatly appreciated
I've never seen anything of cleethorpes so I wouldn't have a clue what the area looks like or the station for that matter. That was interesting to read about that driver but in my opinion I would rather drive a HST over a voyager any day of the week. In response to your question I really wouldn't know if they do or don't. I wasn't even aware of it

I know that i have my wee joke about our respective fave trains. Believe me i do not mean anything by them. When are you going back to the east coast? Keep up the great work as usual. D.
